Remote start

I'm now worried that maybe I put the module near the coolant lines as stated by rwhite4573 in post #666?! Will have to keep an eye on it.

If you didnt buy the takeover version, you did not route any cables near the coolant lines under the center stack. This step was specific for the 2-wite takeover.

I also have Voxx branding on my unit and it has stickers on the back. Dont think the stickers mean anything, pretty sure we all have stickers on the back of our control units.

Maybe it depends on which warehouse the units shipped from determines which brand you get. Mine left from their Philadelphia warehouse.

Whew thanks for the reassurance! I did the non-takeover option. My module was branded with a VOXX logo as well, with stickers.

For all of you who have installed the Accessorides remote start, did you notice the drivers side chair completely recline on its own during the installation? Not sure if it happened when I unplugged the red/green connectors. or splicing into the fuse box wires.

I don't think I was leaning on the seat adjustment button while working, but that could be the only other explanation. Noticed it only when I was closing everything back up.

Mine was the same but I definitely believe I was leaning on buttons tho

Everything still going smooth on the takeover version? Thinking about buying one soon but would like some feedback/lessons learned from someone

Rlow850,

I have had mine installed for couple of weeks and I'm enjoying the Kfob start. I like the Carlink App it is quick and simple (y) No problems. I did notice one difference. In the past in the the morning I would start the car with the UVO App from inside the house and then put my backpack with the keys in the passenger seat and close the door, car remains running. I then give my dog her treats then get in and drive off. Now with the Kfob start still backpack with keys in passenger side car remains running after I get in the drivers side the car shuts off and I have to press start button. That is the only difference I noticed. How I solved this was not to put my keys in the backpack and put the keys in my pocket. If I use the Kfob start and get in the driver door the car remains running. I'm very happy with my purchase:).

Please read Tellthemride INSTALL HERE. Great Read and explains all the install details clearly.

Wow! Huge thread. Missed it, thanks!

No complaints yet. I was able to start the car using OEM fob from about 300ft away with clear line of sight the other day. Used my head as a signal booster though holding the fob to my bottom jaw. 😄 OEM fob worked fine through the walls of my house about 30 feet away to the car as well, basically same reception as you normally have in your house for locking. CarLink app had perfect reception in the city parking garage building when I was 2 blocks away.

I’m always using my OEM fob or CarLink app to remote start because it works so reliably now compared to UVO. Even though the weather outside isn’t even hot/cold.

Now with the Kfob start still backpack with keys in passenger side car remains running after I get in the drivers side the car shuts off and I have to press start button.

Does it shut off when you step on the brake or before? If before, the remote start timer probably ran out. I haven’t noticed any decrease in sensitivty of the OEM fob not being detected. I know with UVO it does allow you to takeover sometimes while loading kids into the back seat. But other times UVO will shut off when you open the door for too long and it cannot sense the fob is nearby. Have not had this happen with Accessorides. With Accessorides I can depend on it staying on no matter how many doors/trunk I open no matter how long I wait to takeover. More reliable for me not having to restart the car. 👍

Tellthemride,

Good question. I think when I unlock and open the door, but I'm not sure. I will check tonight.

@Tellthemride,

I tried several different times last night and even placed my keys on the passenger seat. The Telly shuts off when I open the drivers door. It was not timed out. This is what I did: Start with 3x Kfob, unlock doors with remote, open passenger door, placed keys on passenger seat, close passenger door. Wait 2 minutes and open drivers door and Telly shuts off.

If I start with 3x Kfob, unlock doors with Kfob and open drivers door with my keys in my hand, Telly continues to run.

I’ll see if I can replicate this. I threw my keys in my backpack and left on the passenger seat, but it worked fine for takeover coming only from the drivers side.

I spoke to ACCESSORIDES today and they said there is a 45 second timer once you start the car with 3x Kfob, and open a door. He couldn't remember if it was any door or just driver door. He didn't have a Telly there today to test.
Just tested with keys on passenger seat waited 50 seconds and opened driver door Telly shut off. Did the same thing except wait 30 seconds and opened driver door and car remained running. So it appears if you start with Kfob then unlock the car you have 45 seconds.

Makes sense according to their instructions for takeover. But I am sure I’ve taken longer than 45 seconds loading my kid in the backseat and getting to the front seat to takeover after.

Yes it does. I need to start reading instructions.

This thread has evolved a long way since the original post back in March.....the big issue at that point was that KIA did not include remote start on the FOB and all of us had to work thru UVO to remote start the vehicle. Many ( as evident here in the thread) have tried to move to a 3rd party remote install and have made that work. The sad part is that while KIA recognized the "screw up" and have included remote start on the 2021 FOB ......what they ought to be doing for us "first year buyers" is including the "remote start function" on the no subscription function of UVO!! I love the vehicle, but this one little "sticky point" is not making me a fan of KIA corporate......

Get the Accessorides remote starter kit. You won’t regret it. Better than holding your breath for KIA to do anything for first model year buyers. KIA is probably already focused on the the 2022 model year production.

This is the price of being an early adopter. If they don’t fix things and make improvements in year 2 they aren’t attracting more buyers. I personally would still buy the vehicle again even without remote start. I think most people see the plug and play remote start aftermarket fix as a good option for just $300 over a markup on price. Relatively speaking this is minor compared to other issues some year 1 vehicles typically experience.

The new buyers are also paying a lot higher MSRP, so it’s not like they get that feature for free - it is rolled into those cost increases. They just get a more integrated experience.

I’ve lived my entire life without remote start and will continue to do so once UVO runs out. I’ve tried it out a few times, but it is nothing special to me. call me strange, but I’m a believer in the start the vehicle, let it idle 30 seconds and drive mentality - I think excessive idling is not good for vehicles, especially in cold climates like MN.

Oh, I agree .....but I will be going out in the winter and starting the car to thaw out the ice, etc. We get a lot of freezing rain here in Pa. and I have found "start and warmup" to be very helpful. I will NOT be paying UVO to do it that's for sure!

Agree , very minor.....and the fix would be very minor and simple.......just negate UVO charge for remote start.
