This is great advice.Forget the 20K claim from the makers of motor oils. Do 5k oil change using more costly oil with better detergents. Or do more frequent changes using less costly oil.

What did you do/say to get them to agree to replacing the engine?Kia just approved a new engine for my 2020 Telluride!
I'm dealing with the same issue. What would it take a nuclear blast Of some kind for them to do a recall. You know it's very strange is that this super-sophisticated vehicle would not indicate any waring lamp when 60% for more of the oil is gone. My 1989 Chevy Blazer has the check engine light turn on when oil gets like 20% low..
Going through the same issue. Can you provide who you contacted and how the process went? My local dealership is terrible and I have zero confidence that they’ll be helpful.Kia just approved a new engine for my 2020 Telluride!
Hi, reading through this thread and I am dealing with severe oil consumption on a 2021 Kia sportage. Noticed the oil consumption around 60K miles. Curious how you got them to follow through and get you an engine replacement? I would qualify for a new engine but they are denying me any warranty coverage because I'm missing records of purchasing oil filters on two of the oil changes. We do about 50% of our own oil changes since I have a couple of employees working for me that used to be mechanics. I have the dates and mileage the oil was changed but on two occasions I don't have a detailed receipt showing oil filters purchased (only a monthly statement with inv. #'s). The auto parts company i bought them at was sold to another company in 2022 and the new company does not have any of those older records. The dealership I bought this at is not responding to me anymore... not sure what next best steps for me are. Appreciate any input. ThanksKia just approved a new engine for my 2020 Telluride!
I would threaten to sue them and then follow through. If they want to argue that you ruined your engine because you can't prove that you bought two oil filters, where you had the work done by actual mechanics, then let them take their chances. They will lose and it won't be close. And they know it. Somebody at some level knows it, maybe above the level of whatever dumbass you're dealing with.Hi, reading through this thread and I am dealing with severe oil consumption on a 2021 Kia sportage. Same problem with a 2022 Kia telluride. Our green 2020 FWD S had 60k miles when my wife told me that it was sounding "junky!" I took the Kia out for a short drive and not only did it sound "junky," it was loosing power and missing. All symptoms were worse on acceleration and making turns.
The first thing I did was check the oil as the "junky" sound was valve chatter. There was no oil at all on the dip stick. I ran over to the parts store and bought 2 quarts of oil, and put them in the engine and rechecked the oil level... Still nothing. I went back and bought 3 more quarts. It took a total of 4.5 quarts to register oil on the dip stick. We called the dealership Rusty Wallace Kia in Louisville, TN. They had us come in and started an oil consumption test. There were no lights or warnings to let you know that the engine oil was critically low
The oil consumption test consist of the service department making sure the engine is full of oil, they put seals on the dip stick and oil fill cap. We drive the car for 1000 miles and they recheck the oil level to see how much oil was consumed. Our Telluride used 0.8 quarts the 1st 1k, 0.9 quarts the 2nd check, and 1.2 quarts on the 3rd check.
On the third check Kia kept our car for a couple weeks, changed the spark plugs and the PCV tube. The service department resealed the engine and after rechecking the oil , they found that it only used 0.7 quarts of oil during this 1000 miles. Kia them said that this is normal and within normal consumption and closed the case.
This engine is not leaking oil. It is consuming the oil, which could also be said that it is burning the oil. All that burnt oil is in the engine as carbon deposits and in the catalytic converters which can cause them to clog, not to mention the damage that was done to the engine when driving it when there was nearly no one l at all in the engine. I now have to purchase and add oil in between oil changes as not to further damage the engine which only adds to the cost of ownership. I called Kia consumer affairs and they said that they can not do anything about our situation either.
What a real disappointment! I will sure let everyone I know and anyone else who is interested in a Kia to run far away. So much for the JD Powers rankings. Not only is the Telluride a poor choice, the customer service is lousy too.

Have you replaced the PCV valve?
If the valve malfunctions it can
Did y'all use a good synthetic Oil changed every 5k miles and tier 1 gasoline?? My 2020 Sorento has almost 80k miles and zero problems. Kia is not going to do a thing but give you bs talks. My 2020 Telluride has been consuming oil for over a year now. I got the Oil Cinsumption Test done. That was total bs!...After a 1000k miles it shows nothing but after 3000 miles the dipstick is DRY!! Which according to Tom at Smithtown Kia in Suffolk County NY "That's normal "....Told me to call Kia Complaints...2020 Kia Telluride SX AWD. At 110,000 Km checked my oil because i felt a weird kick when stopping at a light. Almost bone dry. I added oil and booked an apointment for an oil change. They charged me $500 to seal the oil pan (was a cash grab). After 3000 KM, i checked my oil and it was down to Low from High. Way too much loss for 3000 KM. i decided to trade in and bought a Hybrid CRV. didnt want to go down the road of fighting for an engine and likely a refurb engine and then lose value. Too bad as it was an awesome vehicle until then. :-( thx..

My 2020 Telluride.. same issues. Same complaints. My dipstick is dru after each 4k miles. Kia now tells me... We know about this.. "I dont know what to say. Call Corporate, tell Consumer Affairs, report it to Social Media."Have they offered anything to remedy the problem? They keep doing oil consumption tests for us, but I don’t know what the end game is. Considering filing a complaint, but not sure how far it will get.
We are having the same issue with a 2022 telluride with about 52300 milesWe are having the same issues! 2020 Telluride with 58,900 miles! So frustrating.
I just with this exact same issue with my 2020 Telluride. However, my dealership just told me it was in spec and that they wouldn't even do the consumption test on 6 cylinders. Terrible service and terrible issue for this vehicle. So disappointed as I loved my Telluride. I went and traded it in this weekend. Our green 2020 FWD S had 60k miles when my wife told me that it was sounding "junky!" They have suggested to continue with the oil consumption testing until it is over the allowance of 1 qt/1k miles. Then I am sure that the tech line will find something else to replace instead of the engine. Meanwhile, the Telly just continues to to be further damaged. I am hoping that maybe they will extend my warranty to cover my catalytic converters and engine in the event that the consumption does not increase enough during the remainder of the factory warranty. I will pose that question on the next check. The car will be in for it's 5th 1k check at that time.
Not only is it time consuming, but also nerve racking. We are always worried that we may go over the 1 k miles. We had to rent a car to go on a family trip last week because we would be traveling much further than 1k miles. I guess that is another added cost that we will not be able to recover?
if we end up dealing with the run around and an engine replacement this will be the first and last kia we own...ever...that's unacceptable...would probably want to sell/trade after the engine replacementYou must continue to monitor and go to Kia each time the dipstick is dry... I also emailed corporate abd called them to complain. After all the back and forth visits they are replacing my 82k mile bs engine. They will however warranty it for 1 year 12k miles....
They have my Tellurude now since January 19th. It's now Feb 13th... Still waiting. They gave me a loaner for now
