• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Speedometer not working

Analog and digital speed display not working while vehicle is moving. Turned off car and locked it then I unlocked car and turned ON engine and went for a short drive, vehicle is still not registering speed. Will be visiting KIA dealership. Stay tuned for updates.
Type: Canadian Telluride SX model
Mileage: 8900km
This also happened to me with just 6500 miles on the car. Stopped and turned the car off then back on. Nothing. Later was working again. Took it to the dealer. They found no problem, which is a problem! Let me know how this turns out for you.

This just happened to me yesterday where my entire instrument cluster was not working. I barely have 1200k miles. I think this would be pretty dangerous to be driving at night without the instrument cluster working. Let me know if anyone can find a solution!

What about the odometer? Is it moving while driving?

My wife's 2020 SX, purchased preowned in April with approx 7000 miles, has the same problem with a completely blank/dead gauge cluster (aside from the red airbag indicator being on the entire time the car is running). Additionally, the HVAC display is off as well. The infotainment LCD however functions fine, and HUD is on but shows 0 MPH. Turn signal clicking is missing, but I confirmed that the exterior signals are actually lighting. You can drive the car, using your phone to get current speed via GPS, but you better keep rough track of miles driven between fill-ups so you don't run out of gas. This is the 2nd time the car has exhibited these issues. When it happened the first time, I called around to dealers in my area (southern NJ) and was appalled to get appointment quotes as far as 8 weeks out. The best one I could find was 1 week...not exactly responsive for an issue that should theoretically prevent you from driving the car. I called Kia customer care and they gave me quotes on rental reimbursement but did't really offer many other options besides that. The issue resolved itself a few days later and we decided to bag the appointment (the dealer had hinted at the fact that they would probably have the car for a LONG time due to the rabbit hole they would likely have to go down). It's since happened again and has been stuck in this state for about 4 days now. I'm going to call around to dealers again, but I'm definitely not feeling warm and fuzzy about the brand at this point. Why are the dealer service departments so busy? Is it quality issues like this across the entire model lineup? I'm guessing so, since none of the service advisors I spoke to seemed too surprised that I was having problems with my Kia...

having exact issue. I also have a 2020 SX. About 17K miles and just started it to find a completely black instrument cluster, HVAC not lit, gear shifter doesn’t light, no speed on HUD, etc. Does drive and seemingly functions okay, but not a good situation since you can’t tell what is happening from inside the vehicle.

Any update?

Dealer has had it for over a week, the cluster was ordered and will take another week to come in. Then they have to send it out for programming to her VIN. We’ll likely be without it for an entire month when all is said and done. Luckily we have a rental, although nothing near the level of trim and comfort of the Telluride. (base model Sorrento)

Ugh .. not sounding so good it seems. I guess at least they may have a way to fix it but hate the idea of a dealing with the issue for weeks.. thanks for sharing and if you can share updates it is appreciated !

With over a week wait for my service appointment, I decided to try disconnecting the battery on the car for ‘hard reset’ type of approach. I left the terminal disconnected for about an hour and when I reconnected and started the instrument panel and other electronics are now working. I’ll let you know if the problem returns and what I find out at the service center. This is a 2020 SXP that was experiencing full blackout of instrument cluster.

I’ll be sure to post the final results. My guess is that a specific component failed in the cluster (in the power supply section) and with the current chip shortage, it’s taking super long for them to manufacture enough replacements. It’s a bummer that manufacturers don’t do component level repairs these days…

Just picked up my Telluride. Immediately screen was black.. Started and turned it off 5x and the screen was black every time. A guy in the service department, said make sure its not in shipping mode. Sure enough, it was. They flipped the switch and its been running fine. Turned it on and off several times. Works as it should.
They said that it was a change and that normally a message would pop up saying that it was in shipping mode. it doesn't pop up anymore..

As an update, the problem came back this week. I also got a pop-up on the info screen that said issue with the engine control system. Self diagnostic said multiple conditions in engine, LKAS, SCC system. Took it to the dealership and they scanned it with multiple codes - ABSESC/C162808, Airbag/ B261700, EPS C162887, IBU_BCM B121200.

Even though they admitted it is probably not safe to drive with not knowing what is happening, no way to tell speed, no way to tell how much fuel, not knowing if airbag is working, etc., they said they did not have any loaners and earliest they could get the car back to look at it would be August 19 and even then they wouldn't have a loaner vehicle and expect it will take "considerable" time to figure out what is happening.

The battery disconnect trick didn't work this time unfortunately...

Even though they admitted they are not sure if it is safe to drive since many things are not working, can't be sure airbads are functional, can't tell how fast you are driving, no idea on how much fuel, etc., they said they did not have any loaners available. They also said the earliest they could get the car in is August 19 and still would not have a loaner. They can't request a rental until the actual problem is identified which will take "considerable" time - likely several days once they can fit it in. So, they had no recommendation on what to do for the next few weeks other than hand my keys back to me.

Also, the battery disconnect trick did not work this time unfortunately....

After 30mins while the car was locked in a parking lot, the speedometer is working again.
No need to go to dealership. Vehicle will reset it self. It happens alot when they turn off the engine.when it's not in park first. Sometimes owners for get.👍

Having a little different issue. Rather than speedometer showing 0. It shows doing 140 mph going down the road and 80 mph when stopped. Going to dealer tomorrow. Will update
Did they get it fixed? We are having same iddue

Just checking to see if the replacement of your instrument cluster worked? I'm going on week 3 now and they called yesterday to say they have ordered a new instrument cluster, so I am hoping this resolved the issue for you. If not - did they find anything else?
