Telluride Quirks

🤖 AI Summary

No AI summary has been generated for this thread yet.
1. The AC, engineers are working for a fix for that..sure it will be a firmware update to fix it relatively soon.

2 Only way to turn it off is to hit that switch. Some people have wedged something in there to hold the button down and that works. I have just made it pat of my starting the car routine along with turning on auto hold.

3. I believe it stores in the cubby underneath the cargo area behind the 3rd row. There's a video somewhere on how to do it.

Today, I thought I was clever and found a way to lock doors while car was running (not using app). I rolled the window down, got out, locked doors from outside through window, and rolled window up. It worked until I tried to get back in my car. Nothing would unlock but luckily the hatch would still open so I had to craw In through the back to unlock the doors 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seatbelt indicator – Kia went overboard on the “No Seatbelt” indicator. Loud and persistent and stays on for too long. I thought of a place where this is bad. If you take off your seatbelt to try to lean over and kiss your passenger, good luck, the indicator (loud and annoying) will certainly kill the mood!

Sharp door panel — Front doors have deep and quite long plastic trim bottom panels. The corner of them are quite sharp and I’ve left a gash in my shin from hitting them accidentally. Its quite curved too which allows it to “catch” pants and legs easier. If it was metal there wouldn’t be the ‘sharp and pointy’ edge which plastic produces.

Wait What?
I have to agree with seat belt indicator being too loud. Would like to find it and wrap foam or something around it.

Oh I didn’t think of that, thanks! We packed our cubby full of other stuff so I’ll have to give that a try. Would be nice to have around for the few situations we need it.

This reminds me, another frustration is how slow the app is to do anything when communicating with the car. It takes 30-60 seconds minimum for any command to execute, including just updating the current status of the vehicle. It must be a programming inefficiency, as it doesn’t take nearly that long to unlock a rental scooter (or similar) via app.

I have read on FB that they have updated the app and it's a lot quicker now, so look for an update or uninstall/reinstall.

Yes it was updated
One of the changes was removing the expiration date. No really- it’s time in the app update notes.

Only two minor gripes so far on my SX with Prestige:

1) No backlight for the garage door buttons (our 2012 Sorento SX doesn't have this either)

2) You have to manually open/close the cover for the sunroofs ( same with our 2102 Sorento)

Not a gripe but a question. When you use the app to turn on the climate control (thus starting the car remotely), how do you get in and keep the vehicle running? The first time I tried doing this the vehicle stopped all on its own without me doing anything and the second time I hit the start/stop button and it stopped the car. I'm thinking I probably just get in and move the gear selector to whatever position needed (e.g., reverse or drive) and as long as I have the key in my pocket then I'm good, but I'm not sure...

I can’t find a good place to store the factory cargo cover when the third row seat is up. It’s just a smidge too wide to fit in the back. Would love to hear any thoughts from someone who manages to store it in their car! Otherwise it just sits in my house and goes unused.

If you look in the storage compartment in the rear there is actually a spot specifically designed to store the factory cargo cover.

We've had our EX a couple weeks now and absolutely love it. I'm thinking about getting one of my own eventually. Nothing beats the features vs price (except maybe the Palisade or VW Atlas, which don't look as good as the Telluride IMO). Anyway, quirky things I've noticed so far:
  • Window Lock and Child Door Lock button should be separate buttons (my kids haven't learned it isn't appropriate to roll the window going 65 but they know how to safely open the door!)
  • Haven't found a way to disable the ISG (Idle Stop and Go) feature. I know it's got it's own battery for that system, but I'm worried about wear and tear on components over time and it's weird to have a half second delay from letting off brake to pressing gas.
  • Smart Lift Gate opening criteria. I get out of the car, get the baby out of the back seat, then occasionally have bags to get out of the rear. Would be nice to have the lift gate operational criteria adjusted for this, instead of just returning to the vehicle after a shopping trip or something. I know I can just open the hatch before getting out or press the button on the back once I get there, but it would be nice to have the feature work when you're there.
  • Weather feature doesn't work. This could be because we were hit with a hurricane last year and radio stations haven't gotten all their HD stuff back online, as I'm noticing I'm not picking up HD Radio either, but I don't remember picking up the HD features in other cities either (after reviewing the HD radio station list provided elsewhere in these forums). No big deal, but kind of like to have a feature if it's offered.
  • Rear Climate Control on at startup. I'm still reading up on whether having the front on Auto means the back is sync'd, but I seem to have to manually turn on the rear controls to get good air flow to the back. If anyone has a tip for that, lemme know!
  • Adaptive Cruise Control doesn't always pick up traffic stopped at a light. I've been testing the cruise control and sensor functions trying to figure out where/when certain things engage and the one that I've found surprising is that I can come up to a red light with cars stopped ahead but the car seems to want to plow on through. I'm talking 20-40mph so I obviously leave enough room to brake on my own, but I worry that the algorithm either isn't there or is not conservative enough. Not plannig on going so far as checking the emergency braking feature so I'm hoping I'm just more conservative than the algorithm is.
In the grand scheme, these are little things and definitely not a big deal considering what we paid and how satisfied we are overall!

In regards to the stop and go feature, I wouldn’t worry about it. I have it on my 2013 Honda Civic and have zero issues at 103000 miles. I like it because it saves gas but it is not ideal in the heat in stop and go traffic because there is nothing turning the A/C. Eventually it does stop “stopping” in stop and go traffic and the car will run normally. I can only assume the general mechanics are similar between vehicles.

I get the impression there is some logic built into the auto idle stop feature, because sometimes I get the orange icon that it’s going to leave the engine running, and other times it shuts off at a stop (and ramps down the AC accordingly). I haven’t found a reliable way to predict which one it will choose, but I wonder if it’s related to how close to temp the inside is or how hot it is outside.

Really excited to check this out, thanks! We hadn’t really paid attention to our storage compartment since it got filled with all the stuff from our old car’s trunk.

Is this for or just the front sunroof? Our SX has a button next to the button to open the sunroof which open/closes the rear sunroof cover. The front sunroof cover is still manual.

Purchased my LX AWD last Friday. First interstate trip = discovery of a drivetrain vibration. Documented here: Vibration

Drove her over 800 miles since purchase. I absolutely love it, except for the vibration (going to the dealer tomorrow) and:

What is with the horrible windshield washers? The nozzles are useless at speeds above a few miles per hour...

The low beam headlights are great. The high beams do nothing. It appears they are aimed at the tops of the telephone poles (I'll have the dealer check this, too)

Just picked up my SXP yesterday after a March 14 order date. Love the car! But found a vibration at highway speeds, almost a rumble. Anyone else have that’s? A little concerned. Almost has the feeling of a bad u joint.
See this thread! Bad rear driveshaft... Vibration

Have you made sure your radio stations are set to pick up the HD info? Just ignore if you've already tried all this. First check online to find HD IHeartRadio stations near you. Here is one site though I'm sure there are many. List of radio stations owned by iHeartMedia - Wikipedia Tune to one of those stations with the radio info full screen. Look near the top right of the screen for a button that says HD. It's a bar with a cut out. Touch that button and the little cut out will show up with an orange light instead of being dark. That turns on the HD pickup of that station. Then go back to your normal screen where it shows weather loading and see if it picks it up. If you haven't pressed that little button so it glows orange, then it isn't pulling in the HD version and you won't get the weather or traffic data from it. Once you've done that you also have access to that radio stations extra feeds if they have any.

I think you figured it out. The app only lets it run for 10 minutes before turning itself off. I have mine set to start 10 minutes before I leave work for lunch and at the end of the day. The app wouldn't let me get more precise than 10 min before for some reason and our work clocks are off real time about 1.5 minutes. If I get out to my car right away then I have a couple of minutes left on the 10 minute remote start run time so I just unlock the doors, get in, foot on brake and shift into reverse. If I'm just slightly too long then it will shut off just as I get in, then I have to start it as normal. Any longer and it's already shut off and I start as normal then as well.

After having ours for a few months we have had several of the issues discussed above, along with a few others.

Most frustrating is the unpredictable rear AC. When synced, the rear AC stays active if I come back to my car in a short amount of time. If it’s been a while, it turns off (very frustrating). I just want it to retain the previous setting. Getting the rear AC screen to load (among the normal GPS disclaimer and backup camera if you’re trying to get going quickly) takes forever and isn’t something I want to interact with. I just want the AC to stay the way I left it.

Similarly, the idle shut-off feature is annoying with respect to the AC. If it’s hot and I have it set to auto, I don’t want it cutting the fan speed down because I’m stopped. I haven’t figured out a good way to disable this without pushing the button on every drive. With the Texas heat I usually just want the AC blasting to reach the desired temperature.

your cargo cover will store in the bottom. On the left side is a panel that pops out and you put your cargo cover and replace the piece you popped out and presto . cover in bottom. There is a video on the forum somewhere by I could not find it showing this.
