If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The 2023 Telluride Towing Saga - Adding some data and pictures, and it's not great news

i still dont understand why you cant get these in the US?? so stupid..
The instructions and Notices are in English and French only in my kit maybe they are translating to Spanish for US

Which model/trim telluride does this fit?
This is for 2023 and up Palisade and Telluride and as far as I know all Tellurides have the plug in the jack storage area to hook up the Wire Harness, It really is easy enough to pop off the jack storage cover and remove jack and tools and see if you have the white connector that is taped to a larger wire harness on the drivers side.

I quickly plugged all connectors in and grounded the box and plugged in a 7 pin test Light. I plugged in the white connector and immediately the 12 volt light on tester lights up. Looks like there is constant 12 volt whether ignition is on or off. All Turn signals, Brake lights and Backup lights work. Cant tell if Redarc Brake controller is putting out proper amperage through the wire harness with just the test light so will need to install properly and hook up the travel trailer.

This is amazing - to confirm, this part can be used to install a 7-pin on a 23 Telluride by plugging into the port near the jack? Let us know when you have your trailer hooked up that all is working. I was just about to install aftermarket but will wait if this is a workable solution.

Yes that is confirmed by another member who managed to get the harness in November 2022 for his 2023 before it went back order. I will definitely update when trailer is hooked up, but already all the lights work as mentioned earlier.

Just removed my direct wire Curt Tail light converter 4 pin and 4 to 7 PIN adapter Kit. Good news is that after inspecting the factory wire after removing the wire tap, no strands of wire are damaged on the factory tail light wire harness that I can see with a magnifying glass.. Just goint to put a piece of electrical tape over the tap area and put the tail light back in.

Thanks for your detailed posts, pics etc. I’m waiting on my harness, they say a week or so and mine should ship. When you hook your trailer up can you let us know if the backup warnings and autonomous braking are automatically disabled when you shift into reverse with a trailer attached?
Thanks again

Well, I can say that the Palisade Instructions that come with the kit are not step for step the same as the Telluride, A few things are moved around including paneling and I believe the body plug used to pass through the 7 pin is under the Styrofoam jack holder. There is a relief cut under the jack holder where the wiring can com up from under the car under the jack and off to the side und tucked under the paneling then plugged into the infamous white connector. Good news is that it is possible to fish all the harness into position without removing the side panel.

There will need to be Telluride specific instructions that the eventual KIA kit will need to be included as they are different. Still working on it and taking a few photos along the way.

Is there anywhere to purchase these harnesses now? I know most have been waiting on these orders for months.

You will on a 2024 I bet. Then when they have a healthy parts supply they will have an official Telluride version for the 2023 on order. Then the third priority will be stocking parts departments for 2023 owners. Remember, worldwide Hyundai makes more Palisade than Kia makes Tellurides. By the time Kia has an official part for the Telluride, Curt or Tekonsha may have their own plug in version.

Kudos to everyone on this thread. Awesome troubleshooting!

Look at post #19 of this thread and see if you have the white plug that has nothing connected where the tire jack sits:

For those of us that don't have/use a 7 pin and don't have the tow package Curt has a plug and play harness coming out in 1-2 weeks according to the email I just received from a customer rep. The part is Curt 56490 and is going to be available at the usual retailers. I can't post the link to the part, but go to Curt's site and put in your make/model... it'll show up. Plugs into the tail lights with a battery wire. Better than splicing into wires for me and is a 4 pin flat. Also works for me. :)

Came here to say this. I think I’ll order one from Etrailer and HOPE that it gets here by the 18th. It’s estimating the 16th as of now. I leave for vacation with a 4 pin trailer on the 18th… if not I guess I’m splicing.

For those of you looking for a solution to this towing BS that doesn't void your warranty, I figured it out!!! If you'll notice, it's got a hitch and harness already! Telluride lasted four months before I got fed up with this tow crap so I had to trade her in... I'm not depressed at all!

It is interesting to me how the choice of words makes a difference. I read the following as a CYA from Kia: “can cause damage or inadvertently negate any Kia warranties”. I don’t read that as we will void your warranty and choose to argue the magnuson-moss act. If you are doing serious towing a rigid truck frame over an midsized SUV is probably better for you in the long term on the things that might happen after warranty over time with wear and tear on the suspension and frame. Aftermarket (even spliced) when installed properly is not a bad option. If the aftermarket tow harness fails then it did its job in preventing the vehicle wiring from failing.

I think what complicated this 2023 Telluride story is that for the most part this was a facelift model year from 2020-2022. But in terms of the towing capabilities this was more like a redesign. Some car buying experts suggest to wait on buying a new car after a major redesign to avoid issues like this towing problem.

Just called Kia customer care at 800-333-4KIA. Representative told me there is still no hitch or harness available for the 2023 and that there is no projection for when it will be.

All,
All I need is to attach a Thule swing out Bike rack. Can anyone confirm they have used a Curtis hitch with the Thule with zero issues? Thanks much.
