In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The Ultimate Telluride Windshield Chip/Cracking Discussion

My 2021 was hit by a small stone, chipped, then cracked halfway across almost immediately. My local dealer put in a warranty claim and it was denied. I found "the letter" online and as I read it it covered 2020s. I'm curious to here how those of you with 2021s and 2022s are getting their windshields replaced under warranty???

I've said before that the letter is befuddling to say the least. Why only 2020 and to those that have tried to use it with varying degree's of success? I'm happy I got mine replaced by KIA but have no confidence this is going to be a final solution with the same material. Hey Kia, acknowledge the problem with this poorly made glass, come out with an improved version to replace it, and repair those with failed windshields. Replacing them with the same material makes no sense.

I just bought my Telly last week and brought up the windshield issue at the "negotiation table". My salesperson actually admitted that he not only knew about the windshield issue, but he'd personally experienced it on his own company Telly. His wife parked the car in a parking lot with no one around her. Came back out from shopping and a crack half way across the windshield had formed. That being said, he said he couldn't put anything in writing regarding a good will replacement should I have similar bad luck. But he did assure me he'd go to bat for me with the service department should I fall victim.

Would this kind of damage to the windshield be considered for replacement for a 2021 telluride?

No, but give it a little time sad to say.

Does anyone know if the windshield issue was fixed on the 2022 models?

We got our windshield replaced last week without hassle. This morning is first time I drove it in the dark and I always use the automatic high beams option because it works great, or used to. Now it doesn't recognize tail lights so it doesn't dim automatically and on coming traffic it doesn't dim for until they are really close. Is there an adjustment for this or is the windshield in wrong or the sensors weren't put back on in correct place??

What year? Replaced under warranty?

So last night a rock hit my windshield it put star and crack in the windshield. Does anybody know the cost of replacing the windshield? Pretty angry about this because a farmer had been working in his muddy field and then pulling out on the road with muddy tires. He has not cleaned the road at all and thanks to that I now how a broken windshield.

The one I checked was going to be around $1000. Thats glass installed and recalibrate the sensors.

I wanted to give a quick follow-up on my windshield replacement, specifically to address whether the replacement windshield is different/better than the original. The punch line is that I think the new windshield is most likely better / more chip and crack resistant.

I was driving on the highway a few weeks ago and got a direct hit from a rather large rock. I could see it coming and I could tell it was pretty big / was going to be bad. When it struck it was very loud (much louder than the previous 3 hits I had endured on the original windshield), but it didn't chip / crack the windshield at all. I know there are a lot of factors that determine whether or not you get a chip/crack from a rock, so it's impossible to know whether this strike would have resulted in a chip on the original windshield, but in the moment I was *sure* I was going to have a chip, and I was very surprised that I couldn't find any damage at all.

Hopefully this holds true for others who have had a windshield replacement.

Ths is probably off topic, but is the "acoustical glass" the windshield and/or the side door glass windows? Can you confirm all SX come with acoustical noise-reducing glass?

Is the replacement windshield claimed by Kia to be different/stronger? Curious if 22's are supposed to have a different windshield than 21's or 20's

I don't know for sure, but since no one else has answered I will tell you what I believe to be true:
All Tellurides come with acoustic windshields
SX come with acoustic side glass. Maybe just the front driver/passenger, but possibly the second row as well?
I'm not sure about the other trims, but I am almost certain the LX trim does not come with acoustic side glass, at least for 2020.

I haven't seen any official communication on whether the replacement windshields are different or not. There has been some discussion on this forum about whether or not Kia would or wouldn't invest in fixing the root problem, but it's all speculation as far as I can tell.

This language was in the letter they sent to affected customers:

"In an effort to ensure customer satisfaction, Kia will replace your Telluride’s windshield as a goodwill gesture should it chip and crack thereby preventing repair of the chip while we continue to investigate this issue." (emphasis mine)

To me this suggests that if you got a replacement windshield soon after receiving this letter you probably got the same windshield. It's pretty vague, but it leaves open the possibility that they would fix the root problem, but there are so many factors that would go into a decision like that, so it's anybody's guess.

I tend to think they would fix the problem. My reasoning is basically:
1. It's probably fixable and not too expensive (most cars don't have this problem, so we know how to make windshields that don't do this)
2. It's bad for their brand image - I bet they don't want the Telluride to become known as the "cracked windshield car."
3. It's expensive to cover the repair of the defective windshields.

After the recent rock strike that didn't leave a mark on the new windshield I tend to think they did fix the problem...but again there are so many unknowns about the cause of the problem in the first place - maybe it only affected 5% of the windshields? So maybe I just got unlucky with the first one, and "lucky" with the second one. Who knows?

Thanks Steve. Much appreciated!

Update on my non-OEM insurance replacement windshield for 2021 Telly.
Glass label: FUYAO, AS1 M848, DOT - 459, ACOUSTIC HUD, EW05157
After 6 months of daily city and highway driving no issues with the glass.

However, I notice that my Lane Keep Assist hugs the center stipe a little closer than before. It doesn't seem to be true-center between the road markings. A little uncomfortable. I'm not sure if this was an error with calibration when the windshield was replaced or if this is the factory default setting. Does anyone know if this is adjustable by the dealer or windshield technician? In other words, if the current calibration shows centered can it be adjusted left or right by x inches?

Everyone needs to list this as a safety problem, only then will it get attention.

Go to the TSB column that is on here there is a letter I believe and copy that and take it with you to the dealer.
I had no issues when my windshield was doing the same thing with with the crack and they didn't question anything they just took photos and a copy of the letter.

They are also replacing my drying packs that are in the headlights assemblies under the TSB as well no issues at all.
