• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The Ultimate Telluride Windshield Chip/Cracking Discussion

Got my letter today as well. No chips or cracks yet. The letter will go straight into the glove box. Kia would not be doing this if there wasn’t a windshield defect. Hopefully they’ll have a remedy soon. Winter in cold climates will be brutal with damage!

I haven't received the letter yet, but the Pony Express may have gotten hung up in Wisconsin's early snowfall...
I have several minute "nicks" in the windshield from small stones, but thankfully nothing else.
Got mine today. May 2019 build.

Confirmed from Long Island NY, just got that letter today in the mail. My Telly was built in May. Glad to see the windshield is getting attention. No chips yet, but I hope they have enough windshields in the warehouse... I'd hate to see what would happen if more than a handful of Telly's needed one...

I think it has already happened, and owners have been waiting. There was someone on a Facebook group who had her rear window damaged in an accident, and she had been waiting months for a replacement too.

I bet you this can be all traced back to Mr. Cho in Ohio.

Interesting letter but I cant help but wonder if Kia has thought this through....so every rock chip/crack will be eligible for a complimentary windshield replacement? Unlimited as to how many? I live in the rock chip/crack capital of the world so its nice to know I can drop my glass coverage!!

Our letter arrived yesterday. Submitted the paperwork via the Kia website this morning for a windshield replacement installed back in June. Now we play the waiting game.........

I was wondering the same thing. No limit to how many replacements? No expiration date?

Can someone who has received this letter scan and post here? Do you know if this being sent to all owners? Thanks.

We also unfortunately got a chip on the top passenger corner of the glass. Will definitely take to the dealership now. We received the notice yesterday.

Interesting that the letter doesn't have a specific end date... just the open ended "... while we continue to investigate this issue."

I got an extremely small rock chip on the passengers side on Saturday, 15 minutes later I had a 4” crack that has grown to 8” now. I went to the dealership today and showed them the letter I received today and the dealership has ordered a windshield for me. I would suggest you get the chips fixed ASAP.

Or possibly not, unless it's become unsafe... if the cause is unknown, the new windshield might have the same experience (as reported by at least one individual to the NHTSA)... but, would have to assume Kia would continue to replace them. Maybe, once the issue is determined - and - if the issue grows large enough to become a full fledged recall - and - they have a new windshield without the problem - they'll replace all the potential defective ones...

The NHTSA has a total of 50 windshield complaints logged - some of the complaints stated the cracks started spontaneously - i.e. nothing hit the windshield. Everyone with this issue should file a complaint there... 2020 KIA TELLURIDE SUV AWD

The letter will only cover if your windshield cracks immediately after a chip and before you can get the chip fixed. You have two options:

  1. Do nothing and wait for a crack to form and tell Kia that the crack happened right after the chip (less honest approach)
  2. Get the chip filled by a glass repair company (Safelite or others) or buy a repair kit yourself and fill the chip in on your own.
If you go to the dealer now, option 1 will probably not be available if the crack happens sometime down the road.

I received the letter as well. I've had my Telluride since the end of March and have gained several chips in the windshield, far outpacing any previous vehicle I've had. And I only remember receiving one of the chips as it happened, all of the others I noticed after a windshield cleaning sometime after.

At any rate, the letter talks about chips that lead to cracking... I haven't had any cracking. I'm curious at which extent the windshield qualifies for replacement. Some of these chips are pretty close to the field of vision or whatever they call it.

Unfortunately, wiindshield glass is easily chipped these days....but cracks developing BECAUSE of chips is NOT common and that is why KIA is reaching out to owners.

I bought it on April 12 2019
I was told that KIA had windshields that were not made properly and are subject to cracking when a small chip occurs. A small chip should be able to be fixed not crack

Same here. Only had mine 3 weeks and found a chip that happened from an ACORN falling from a tree.

If this is the case, then why bother to fix a chip if the windshield is at risk of cracking with the next chip. Unless you have free glass chip repair (my insurance does not offer this), I'd just let the windshield crack. Hopefully Kia will remedy the issue with their supplier soon and replacements will be issue free.
