• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... On September 12, I was a in a car accident. The car in front of me was cut off, so that made me hit him😡. My air bags came out, my front end is bent up my Telluride is a mess😥😫. My truck is in the shop so with that said, the shop can't fix it right now because they can't get the parts since it's a new truck. You would think that they would total it out. I miss my baby, I only had it for one month. The shop has not given any estimate on the truck yet to determine whether it's fixable. I need help!😭

Noooooo!! That really sucks. I feel for you.
Isn't there a collision avoidance/auto-braking feature? I guess you were out of whatever speed range it operates in?

How is this not a total loss?

The shop is trying to said that since it's a new car they can fix it, but the insurance company doesn't have any information yet.🤨 I think that the shop is trying to get more money out of the hold deal. It shouldn't take this long to do a estimate, they had it since Monday.

I was merging on the beltway when it happened, and the car that cut us off came around us out of no where.

Sorry to hear this. Most importantly you came out alive and I hope with no injuries.

Not much use of an estimate if you can't get the parts. I'd call a KIA store that has a body shop and see if you can do any better. I'd hate to be the guy who has to put the lettering back on the hood. 🤦‍♂️So sorry!!

Yes, I was able to walk right out of the truck Thanks to the airbags. The other person was ok too.

I would like to think that they called Kia first, if they can't get the part's I don't know what's going to happen🤦🏽‍♀️

Hopefully not stuck in a Rio Rental Rocket until the parts show up!

I have my rental for only 20 days with my insurance company, after that I'm on my own. The shop told me that it may take 2 to 3 months until finished. I hope that before then they might say it's Total .

Ur insurance company pays for a rental of a comparable vehicle for 30 days or however long it takes for them to fix your truck. At least that’s how mine works

Sometimes it's based on an allowance. All policies can differ from one to the next.

With my insurance it's $500. They pay 80% and I pay 20%

I’d have to look at my policy but my wife seems to think we pay an extra $7 a month for roadside and rental

I have all of that, it's just going to take a little longer because the auto shop is trying to fix it and instead of total it out. I feel like if it's going to take 2 to 3 months total it!

Sorry to read about your accident with a new vehicle.
FYI: The auto body shop has no decision in the process of wether or not the vehicle is totaled. This is determined by your insurance company. Right now the body shop is most likely negotiating with the insurance company with regards to what they will get paid for the repair. Right now it will be very difficult to source parts that are specific to the Telluride, they cannot keep up with production more or less build parts inventory. This is the huge downside of being an early adaptor of a new vehicle.

I may be off a bit but I believe insurance companies will total a vehicle if:
1: The damage cannot be fixed and make the vehicle road worthy and safe any longer. Most of your damage appears to be cosmetic
2: The damage to the vehicle will cost around 70% of the value of the vehicle. If your vehicle is valued at $40000, the repair costs would have to be in the $28000 range to total it. I highly doubt that your vehicle has sustained this type of damage.

I would suggest getting in contact with your insurance company and start an open dialog and get an understanding of they policies. If the vehicle is not totaled and parts are not available, you may at least have grounds for them to extend and fully cover the cost of your rental vehicle.

Good luck

Thanks so much for your help, that explains how it works, because nobody (the insurance company or the body shop is telling me anything).

If the insurance does not tell you anything, then it must be one of those el cheapo carriers that has amazingly low premiums. You always get what you pay for.
