What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

If you send 100 dollars extra per month u also cut down a good chunk of interest paid.

I am not a sales tax expert but it seems that any money you received was not actually traded in. If you buy a car with a trade worth $20,000 but take $10,000 cash out, you are only putting $10,000 towards the new car. I would expect to pay tax on the price less $10,000, not less $20,000.

That’s what was explained...except for the fact that if you owed 20k on that car, you would get nothing back, they would pay off the bank, and you would get the tax benefit. I’m having a problem reconciling that.

Yeah it seems weird but it’s basically just an exemption. It’s still you’re car whether a bank needs payed off in the end or not. 8 states do not offer the exemption so check your state tax rules before trading in your current ride.

Timeline for my Telluride purchasing.
May 14: Signed and paid deposit on the order on AWD SX Prestige Dark Moss/Gray interior.
May 15: The last day Kia allowed order on SXP.
May 16: The dealer informed they could not submit the order. Deposit refunded.
May 18: Sent emails to dealers searching SXP or SX.
May 22: A dealer emailed me they have a SX coming in Sunday May 26. Claimed it with $500 deposit.
May 24: Delivered, two day earlier than scheduled.
May 25: Picked up my Telluride.
AWD SX (Non-Prestige) in Dark Moss/Butterscotch. Floor mat, cargo net, wheel locks.
MSRP: 44,855
Selling price: 44,855
Rebate: 1000 (Kia loyalty) + 1500 (KMF rebate at 1.9% for 48 months)

Impression of Kia dealers in Colorado.

Tynan's Kia in Fort Collins: This is where I purchased and the farthest dealer I contacted (120 miles). Their initial asking price was MSRP, but no discount. We reached on agreement with only emails. They never tried ripping off. They seem like most responsive and transparent dealers I've ever met.

Phil Long Kia: My local dealer where I put the initial order. They were not bad, but they are not responsive and late to make my order to Kia.

I-25 Kia: They emailed me yesterday they would have 11 incoming Tellurides in June. Five of them are not spoken as of May 27.

Arapahoe Kia: Initial asking price was MSRP. They are good, but asked non-refundable deposit on orders. Offered me a SX coming in three weeks, but I gave up because of black+black colors, my least favorite.

Peak Kia (Three branches in CO): They asked thousands of mark up. Last dealer I'd visit.

Congrats @DRK !! I ordered a Dark Moss/Butterscotch AWD SX and I am only in the beginning of my long wait. Jealous you found one in the wild. Maybe I will have to bug you for pics every so often to tide me over, LOL.

Thank you! I feel like I stole it from you. :) I hope you get it soon.

So my wife wants a sx-p but they aren’t available. So today she says a telluride sx will work and I tell her let’s order one. I personally won’t pay msrp for a car. It’s just something I’m not willing to do. That feels like throwing dollars down the drain. The dealer says this to me.

“Okay I’m sorry I would love to earn your business but right now it’s supply verses demand”

That one comment made me decide not only at this time the telluride isn’t for me but i will never talk to this dealer again.

How is ordering a car supply and demand. I order a car they would never purchase otherwise. How is this supply? If they had it on the lot I understand. They will never even order this car now. Crazy.

Things need to cool off. People are going crazy over this car. Palisade will be out soon and will hopefully put Kia dealers back on earth. Good luck.

Has anyone dealt with Kia Cerritos? I asked them about buying one from them, though I live 6 hours away. I said I could put a deposit and drive or fly down to pick up a specific color (black). They told me: "We will keep out fingers crossed it lasts until you arrive. We have had it happen twice now. One person from Utah and the other from Oregon. The cars only last a day or two so I cannot hold one for you. If you would like to drive/fly in, I can give you advanced notice when they arrive."

It sounds like they don't sell online, which is a shame in 2019. They have 17 Tellurides in stock according to their website if anyone is in the area.

These dealers are crazy. Why would you buy from them with the attitude? Since when do dealers not treat buyers like they mean something. Maybe I have been out of the buying game too long. Haven’t bought a car since 2012. Never been treated with such disrespect.

This really is the current reality with this particular vehicle. It’s a sellers’ market and it’s pretty shocking, I agree. But the Tellurides do sell immediately. I still wouldn’t pay over much over MSRP and I’d really like to know if people are paying the $10-12k over MSRP some dealers quoted me. That seems like a complete farce by dealers, but I had quotes like that directly from 4 dealers in my area. They didn’t flinch when I said “no way.” So, either people are truly paying $10-12 thousands over, or the dealers are lying via email and phone and will maybe deal if you are there, in person, ready to buy rather than asking them to hold one. I paid MSRP but with dealer/Kia incentives it brought down the price to where I may have negotiated otherwise.

My local dealer will sell for msrp -incentives. I personally won’t touch for a penny less than 2000 off of msrp and incentives. I don’t need a telluride that bad. I understand if they have a car sitting there they have the bargaining power. I however want to order one and wait for 3 months to take possession. Why on earth would they not think this is a good deal for them. This is a car they would never purchase and sell if not for me ordering it. I think they are missing the bigger picture. How many people have walked away over this kind of stupidity. I will guarantee Kia wants to sell as many as they can. Not gouge and sell less. Makes no sense to me.

A dealer told me the same about 'the law of supply and demand', and showed me a msrp + mark up offer sheet. I walked away from that 'crazy' dealer. I came to know later many dealers were still asking only msrp, no mark up. I bought one from a 'normal' dealer and paid msrp - 2500 rebates.

You are ok with paying msrp? I guess I don’t understand here. Since when do people pay msrp. In 6 months when the vehicle is worth 10k less than when you bought it how is this a deal? The dealers should take some of the risk. Give me something. 2k plus incentives. That’s my bottom dollar

Well, an insider mentioned on this forum that the price is going up by the end of this year or next by $2k. So technically you are getting a deal if you buy it at MSRP now ;)

By not selling to you at that price they are re-enforcing the idea that they sell only at MSRP (or MSRP + markup). People won't be posting on forums about what great deals they got or talking to their friends which may drive the price down. If 5% of their sales are people like you who want to pay a "reasonable" price then their 95% of other sales vastly make up for your one purchase, and yes they will refuse to sell it to you on principal to keep everyone else paying. Dealers are not stupid, and within a range they all talk in their own network. Just as the ploy is to plot dealers against each other, they communicate with each other as well.

In regards to what's "reasonable": They have a commodity that is in high demand. Look at most of the purchases here, people are really only getting under MSRP, myself included, if they get lucky or by using manufacturer rebates. If I search cars.com within 100 miles of my area there are 1,300 VW Atlas, 300 Subaru Ascents, 1,600 Toyota Highlander and 57 Tellurides. Fifty-seven. If you don't want to pay MSRP - rebates, wait until supply goes up. It's as simple as that.

In addition, the Telluride honestly has a pretty great price point. It has a far more luxurious interior, in my opinion, than any of the above listed SUVs. I drove every one of them multiple times, well except for the Toyota because you have to wait til the 2020 Highlander to get Android Auto... It also looks better than all of them, although the Atlas looks pretty great.

The thing is, the dealers don't have to give you anything. The onus is on you to convince them to sell you the commodity at a certain price.

With only what? 15000 tellurides sold? Those were some bold statements. There are only 1800 member in this group. There are more members in the telluride Facebook group than tellurides sold. This to me looks more like a slow roll out to drive the price up and hose the first wave of buyers. This is not the definition of supply and demand. When other brands are selling 20k suvs each and every month it’s impossible to get a good feel of what the tellurides value or resale value will be in even a few months. I’m guessing a drastic decrease in prices paid. I don’t believe the price will go up as stated earlier. I’m not saying I don’t like the telluride. I do. I wish I can buy one. I just wish to do so without taking it in the shorts.
