Won't start; brake pedal high and firm

It’s probably just a bad battery. I had issues with my car not long from when we brought it home brand new. After battery was replaced under warranty by dealer it’s been good . Like some have mentioned here before because these cars have a lot of electronics and if you aren’t using the car for over a week. Buy a batter maintainer.

Why are you people going to the dealers for L.O.F.s? Any above average service shop can do it.

1) lease
2) my dealer is cheaper vs local valvoline
3) warranty purposes (easier if dealer has all service records etc)

Hi @mesquite72 - did you ever figure out what was happening? I had the same issue this morning and towing it to dealership.

I just had this happen to me! I tried everything even tried to start it on my phone While sitting in my car. Went inside the house tried to start it again on my Kia phone app and it started!!! So weird, I didn’t have any problems that day! Did you ever find out why it did not start?

Do you have any peripherals plugged in like a dash cam or radar detector? I agree with the above, I'd yank the battery out, roll on over to AutoZone and have it tested.

Nothing else was plugged in and nothing was being charged like my phone or anything else.

That seems to be a battery issue. If there's no power, it doesn't engage the brake system, so the power brakes aren't being used. Try to jump it, get the battery tested, or replace it.

Hello,
If you purchase your own Synthetic oil (I would recommend Amsoil) and oil filter. Then cost to you should be not more then $20.
Some of the major items should taken care of by your dealer but not all need to be.
As long as you follow the Kia manuals maintenance schedule you should be fine.

Thank you for responding. I was thinking the same thing when it was happening, but 15 minutes later it started with no problem. Ran errands all day with no problems at all. Days later still no problems, weird!

Problem started 4 days ago. First thing after resting overnight; tried to start but brake pedal felt very high and hard. Car would not start. Not even a sound from the engine. Engine mobilizer light lit seeming to indicate that my key wasn't good. Used other key fob next day...same thing. I could only start car by cycling through the power stages "ACC, ON, OFF" then again. Finally the brake pedal felt normal and the car starts. Dealer thinks it is either my fob battery or a dead cell in the car battery. I doubt both of those since the car eventually started and showed no sign of a weak battery. There is something wrong with the brake pedal feeling so high and hard. Don't know what causes that. Dealer has a one month lead time for a service appointment!!! Unacceptable to me. And since it only happens when car has been sitting overnight I would have to leave it there. Dealer has no loaner cars either!! Poor service in my opinion. Car is 4 month old 2021 Telluride EX with 4700 miles on it.
Anyone else having a similar problem? I am considering using the lemon laws here to turn the car back in if they can't fix it.

I have same issue with my Telluride which has 225 miles. Was the issue ever fixed and if so what was it. I can't even get a return call from dealership at this point.

I’m having the same issue with my 2022 Telluride. The dealership says they will call me back but never do. And I call like 10 times a day.

The problem is as the original poster explains. Stiff pedal, everything turns on in the car but the engine doesn’t even try to start. No clicking sound or anything. I know what a car with a dead battery sounds like when trying to start but this is totally different. Maybe I’m not use to newer model cars.

Got it towed and then it started at the dealership! Dealership doesn’t understand and now 10 days later same thing happened again.

I had a similar issue with my Genesis. On the battery I have a main fuse box on the positive terminal. It ended up being that fuse box loosened up and wouldn’t maintain a solid connection. If I jiggled it, the car would end up getting enough power to start but a few starts later it wouldn’t start unless I jiggled it again. Just a thought.

I'm not happy reading some of these issues with our Tellurides. It does become educational in case something happens. I just bought a new 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. If you are a car geek, it is one of only 1700 made. It is not my daily driver. I left it parked on the side of my house for about 10 days and when I went to go start it, the dash warning light for ABS brakes came on. The next day a warning message came on saying that the transmission will not shift soon. Car only has 1500 miles on it. It turns out that these newer cars are so electronically high-tech and there is alot of electronic things that remain on even when the car is turned off. This causes the battery to wear down by only a couple of volts and this causes the computers to throw a faulty code. I have been told to either drive the car for at least 30 minutes to fully recharge the battery or keep a battery tender attached when the car is not used. I drove my Telluride from NY-CA-NY in February for two weeks then took a NY-FL-NY trip in May. I racked up over 15,000 miles in less than one year. I usually only put 5,000 on my cars in a year. I told my wife to stop driving the Telluride to keep the miles down and the car sometimes sits for days before going for a ride. I will now have to keep an eye on the battery voltage. I can see on the Caddy that the voltage drops by 2 volts from just 3 days of being parked.

My wife's 2022 Palisade has occasionally had the same problem of not starting when the brake pedal is hard. It could be that the hard pedal prevents enough movement for the sensor to register that you are pushing the brake to start as required. Of course, it won't do it for the Hyundai dealer. They did say if it happens again to try remotely starting the car from the key fob (since applying the brake pedal is NA if you're not in the vehicle).

I'm having this same exact issue with my car right now. It's ridiculous!! I'm so disappointed.
