Canadian 2021 Telluride

hmm, I wonder if the 2020 and 2021 are different.
I think that the 2020 just has a 4pin.
I don't really like the idea of cutting my trim piece, but I'm not sure if I need a harness at this point.

For 2020 only 4 pin from Kia was available.

When 2021 models released, the US got 7 pin also, but in Canada never arrived until much much later.

You can install 4pin or 7pin on either model year.

Mine was done in September 2020, long before the the "official" 7 pin arrived to Canada, but looks exactly the same, the place did a great job.

If you get the hitch installed at dealer the trim piece comes with it, if not I highly suggest you just buy it. It's not that expensive. $40US.

My recommendation, don't cheap out, get the cover. You can always get the harness later, but I got the 7-pin in case I ever needed it. The extra $100 for the 7 pin harness (over the 4 pin) at that point was no big deal to me. (I paid $900 CDN for OEM KIA hitch, cover, 7 pin and brake controller).

OEM Hitch and install and cover was $430
7pin with brake controller was $560, I was quoted $220 for just 7 pin.

I called around, and all the places I called quoted me $1000 and up, so dealer was cheapest.

Knowing what I know now, I should have just gotten the 7-pin and a Bluetooth brake controller so the same price as the install and brake controller. Less intrusive.

The 7-pin harness was never officially adopted by Kia Canada. I tried sourcing from my dealer but after several weeks, he came back and said it wasn't available in Canada (surprising) and suggested that I purchase in the US since it would still probably be cheaper even if it was available in Canada (at least he was honest). The harness made the install simply. You remove the cover on the 12-pin connector, snap the harness connector in and then zip tie everything.

Doing it yourself isn't that difficult as long as you have a proper wrenches and a 1/2" torque wrench. You need two people to hold the hitch in place.
If the holes aligned, it would have made things much easier. :)
Took about 5 hours since I had to run out and get the 7-pin brackets.
The 10mm screw also never worked to hold the harness.

Awesome!! Do you have a part number for the 7 pin bracket?

The U-Haul 7-way round bracket is product #13304 and the mounting bracket is product #13301.
The two go together. One wraps over the hitch and the other holds the 7pin plug.
I had to cut the round bracket at the bottom to get it on to the wiring harness. A simple hacksaw did the cut.

Awesome this is great info for anyone installing that Curt hitch #13420 -- so much cheaper than the OEM!

Which is currently out of stock on the Curt site

If you're in Canada (which is the title of this forum!) - partsengine.ca has it for $246 CND with FREE SHIPPING!
I have no affiliation with partsengine.ca

Last chance to get in on this.

I would be willing to open it up tp all of Canada as opposed to Calgary area if it means us getting a few more orders. You will have to pay for a stamp and a padded envelope from Calgary to me directly, but a hell of a long cheaper then getting it shipped from US or Korea.

The US guys will be shipping all to me and I can distribute from Calgary. Most are in Calgary area, but we have one from Montreal area.

Right now it's 22 of us (US and Canada), so the price will never be lower (already saving $45US). If we get 8 more, it will get even lower.
Hi can you PM me on this one?

I'm interested in helping get to 30.

I got a 7 pin, installed by my dealer. They are offering them in Canada.
which dealer is that?

I went to my dealer today. Kia Gabriel West in Montreal.... to pickup my SX Telluride Gravity Gray.
At car inspection, they installed a 4-pin instead of 7-pin. So I talked to my agent about it saying specifically that I validated with him before the whole sales process and test driving the Telluride that the full tow package was indeed 7-pin. He had confirmed to me yes after supposedly checking with his accessories department...
Low and behold tonight the accessories guy tells me that Kia Canada do not have the wiring for a 7-pin. They have the 7-pin but no wiring for it in Canada. So it's a non-functional (dare I say non-legal) 7-pin.
I talked to the accessories guy and the agent, why confirm to me you can get the 7-pin if it's non-functional? Then the agent goes on to tell me one client had left the dealership with a 7-pin but that was non-functional.... but because the client hadn't asked about the wiring, too bad for him.

I'm really pissed off after thinking that 2021 Telluride had 7-pin when Canada doesn't.... Maybe wait for a 2022 Canada. I do not know.
I've never walked off a lot without my car...
Never dealt with such dishonesty...

Do not know what to do about the Telluride.... is Palisade 7-p

Hello!
Hopefully you guys can help me out, we recently purchased a 2021 telluride Sx limited and paid extra to have the dealership instal the tow hitch receiver and 7 pin wiring set up. Upon arrival at the dealership and inspection I noted that it looks nothing like the pictures online. This mount is way below the bumper and only has 13 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver. Wondering if our dealership gave us aftermarket and not OEM. Could a Canadian owner please let me know if this is what yours looks like??

Literally previous page I posted this picture.

Your does not look good or correct. I would not accept that.

Normally I would say don't want away from a vehicle that you will love for a minor thing, but yes that looks really bad.

Mine is the way it's supposed to be. I love the way they did mine.

I agree with you @GreekWiz. I would not accept that either and it looks like a cheap afterthought install. Sorry to say but I feel they ripped @MBelfry off by charging oem hitch price and giving him a princess auto hitch. I’d make them take it off and take the price off the telluride and take it that way and then get an oem installed somewhere else.

My dealer told me that all hitch installs are done by a third party installer, probably uHaul or another local shop.

That install does not look right. For one, the proper hitch bolts up right in to the frame. It's 7 bolts tightened directly in to the frame. I don't understand how they even installed this hitch so low, not to mention the 7-pin bracket. Maybe take some photos from underneath showing how the hitch is attached to the frame on the drivers side (the passenger side is hidden by the muffler).

Here's a picture of the install I did last weekend for reference.1619093887536 (002).jpg

I'm a little confused.. You said you installed the Curt branded Uhaul hitch, which I assume is Curt #13420?
Doesn't this sit a bit lower than the OEM hitch from Kia?
You seemed to have no problem putting on the Kia hitch cover plate (S9F61-AU060). I thought that only worked with the OEM Kia hitch.
Can anyone clarify if that S9F61-AU060 works with any after market hitches?
Thanks

I don't know the model number of the hitch I installed but I'll try to find this number when my wife gets home with the car.
I'm not sure how it sits relative to the OEM hitch from Kia, since I've never seen an OEM install.
The only issue that I had with the plate install, was the bracket for the 7-pin holder didn't sit completely to the rea, but I noticed in someone else's install, that the opening was cut larger to allow the 7-pin bracket to sit further back. I'll do this mod on the weekend.

I'll update this post if I can find a model number. I'll also measure the height of the hitch from the ground (if that helps).

Ya that would help. I think the OEM sits like 17 inches above ground, and the Curt 15", and then there is a Draw-tite which might only be 13".
Is there a gap between the top of the hitch and the bottom of the bumper cover or does it sit tight?
Its hard to tell from your picture.

So the UHaul Part Number is: CQT76420
It looks like it's a Draw-tite, which corresponds to the 13" height (I'm assuming this is to the centre).
