If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... My wife was having an issue with her carlinkit 3.0 either disconnecting or rebooting while connected...the audio cuts out and after a little while the screen to connect to your phone like when it first connects when you start the car pops up...i just updated the software and she is still having issues...any ideas (car specs in signature if that matters)?...maybe i should have her delete the connection in her bluetooth settings on her phone and pair it again?

wife said she has to update her iphone...going to give that a shot before returning and trying another adapter...what other adapter options do i have?...from what i was reading the cplay2air is a early version of the carlinkit

I have the 2.0 and just updated to the new 3.0 carlink software a couple days ago. Running iOS 15 on iPhone 13 with no issues so far. Had been running carline for several months with no major issues only a minor glitch every now and then.

Good to know...she hasn’t updated yet...I checked for updates on the device...I’m running iOS 14.4.1 but I don’t drive the car that much so I haven’t experienced it cutting out...

The carlinkit software version is 2021.08.24.1817

Another question...when connected this thing should be connected to wifi not Bluetooth correct?

True, but initial setup (and on startup) requires Bluetooth be activated. After connection, it runs on WiFi, and Bluetooth can be turned off.

returned it on amazon and ordered another one...if this one acts the same way we will return it and just use the cord until a better model comes out

new carlinkit came in yesterday...this one is different from the last one that we had returned...it has 2 ports on it...1 on each end...1 is a usb and the other is a usb C...she ordered it from the same link...the last one only had the usb c port...so maybe the first model was an older version?...she is going to set it up and run it without updating and see if it works...if it does great...if not we will update it and then try again...if it still disconnects we will send this one back also

Interesting. I am curious what you learn from this. I have not updated my Carlinkit 2.0. Received it several months ago, and hooked it up. No updating.

how many ports and what type of ports does your version 2.0 have on it?...i have a feeling we received a 2.0 or version 1.0 instead of a 3.0...i don't think there is much difference as the software can be updated on all of them...so when they say on the amazon ad that one model is for car years 2017-2018 and another is 2019-2020 and another is 2021+ i feel like that is BS...i wish i would have taken a photo of the device with the model number on it to compare to the new one we received...we'll see how this works out

below is the amazon review i read...the photo and the review are not mine...both of the ones i received look like the one on the right except the second one had a usb-A port on the bottom of the device in addition to the usb-C port for the power cable

Ok, so Amazon doesn't like my reviews of this and they just keep getting deleted and not showing up. I will try this one more time.

This is the version that Carlinkit calls the 2.0 and as far as I know it is the newest version. It uses 5ghz wifi to connect from your phone to your stereo and activates the Carplay. It takes 20-30 seconds to get a connection and then it works perfectly. I have this on an aftermarket Kenwood DMX7706S head unit and it works great.

As you can see in my picture, I purchased what was listed on Amazon as version 2.0 first and when it arrived I realized that it was actually the 1.0 which does not have a removable cord. It worked pretty well, but the 3.0 (actually 2.0) version works slightly better and has a removable cord which is very nice if you need a longer cord. Just get this version. It is the one you want.

I spoke to someone at Carlinkit and they said that there is only one version of this unit. Don't get confused by the options for models designed for different vehicles. There is only one version. aslo, don't get confused by the "OEM Carplay only" designation. That just means that it doesn't work with units that don't already have wired Carplay. This works with most aftermarket Kenwood, Alpine and Pioneer decks as well. It works really well in my Kenwood.

This has been a great purchase. It very rarely has a connection problem, but will sometimes buffer or have a hiccup, but honestly it is a lot less than I had with it as a wired connection. I would definitely purchase this again. The convenience of just getting in the Jeep and not having to remember to plug in my phone and find a safe place for it is really great. Once you do the initial setup (about a minute), it just works and you don't have to do anything. 100% recommend.

Mine has the removable cable, and on the other end, a USP port. In the picture, the one on the right

I have had no issues with mine. Works well.

I’ve been having the same issue as OP. I’ve been using it for a couple weeks. I did 2 hour trip (each was) a week ago and cut out and restarted once. Yesterday, I’m a total of ~2 hours of driving, it cut out and restarted 5-6 times before I gave up and switched to radio. I will try to update software and see if that helps.

Same issue with the new one...was updated also...planning on returning it and just waiting a year or 2 and try again to see if the tech catches up

I wonder if the cutout issues people have had are due to a bad USB cable/connection/port. Some cables just don't fit as snug as others and even a slight wiggle will cause them to disconnect. Maybe a bit of electrical tape is in order to eliminate that possibility?
