Interesting. I am curious what you learn from this. I have not updated my Carlinkit 2.0. Received it several months ago, and hooked it up. No updating.
how many ports and what type of ports does your version 2.0 have on it?...i have a feeling we received a 2.0 or version 1.0 instead of a 3.0...i don't think there is much difference as the software can be updated on all of them...so when they say on the amazon ad that one model is for car years 2017-2018 and another is 2019-2020 and another is 2021+ i feel like that is BS...i wish i would have taken a photo of the device with the model number on it to compare to the new one we received...we'll see how this works out
below is the amazon review i read...the photo and the review are not mine...both of the ones i received look like the one on the right except the second one had a usb-A port on the bottom of the device in addition to the usb-C port for the power cable
Ok, so Amazon doesn't like my reviews of this and they just keep getting deleted and not showing up. I will try this one more time.
This is the version that Carlinkit calls the 2.0 and as far as I know it is the newest version. It uses 5ghz wifi to connect from your phone to your stereo and activates the
Carplay. It takes 20-30 seconds to get a connection and then it works perfectly. I have this on an aftermarket Kenwood DMX7706S head unit and it works great.
As you can see in my picture, I purchased what was listed on Amazon as version 2.0 first and when it arrived I realized that it was actually the 1.0 which does not have a removable cord. It worked pretty well, but the 3.0 (actually 2.0) version works slightly better and has a removable cord which is very nice if you need a longer cord. Just get this version. It is the one you want.
I spoke to someone at Carlinkit and they said that there is only one version of this unit. Don't get confused by the options for models designed for different vehicles. There is only one version. aslo, don't get confused by the "OEM
Carplay only" designation. That just means that it doesn't work with units that don't already have wired
Carplay. This works with most aftermarket Kenwood, Alpine and Pioneer decks as well. It works really well in my Kenwood.
This has been a great purchase. It very rarely has a connection problem, but will sometimes buffer or have a hiccup, but honestly it is a lot less than I had with it as a wired connection. I would definitely purchase this again. The convenience of just getting in the Jeep and not having to remember to plug in my phone and find a safe place for it is really great. Once you do the initial setup (about a minute), it just works and you don't have to do anything. 100% recommend.
