Good Dealer Dealings - List Your Good Dealer Experience

Best New Car Buying Experience I've ever had at Classic Kia in Waukegan IL (Chicago) Just purchased a 2022 Kia Telluride with help and expertise of our Sales Guy John Plewka. John and the guys at Classic are straight shooters. We ordered through John and Classic after seeing good reviews on this Blog when we experienced other dealers trying to up-charge from MSRP by $10K. John Placed our order for exactly what we wanted and communicated with us every 2 weeks throughout the waiting process. 4 months later (better than most other dealers based on the other thread) we got our car.

2022 SXP AWD, Glacier White, Nigh Fall, Tow, Napa Dune
I have to echo this (and we must have been on the same timeline). Picked up our Telluride on Saturday! John was great throughout the whole process.

I did go for the extended warranty and bought it through Classic for $1849. I know I can get it for a little less from Muncie, but I would rather that Classic gets thew profit, since they've done right be me.

Hello All,

I found this forum to be super helpful when I started my Telluride search a few days ago. I wanted to give back by providing some information to all the folks in the Tristate area (NY,NJ,PA) with the most updated information (as of 2/19/2022). This WILL save you guys some time and will overall summarize what my experience has been like in my search.

During my search I reached out to over 120+ dealerships within a 4-6Hr driving radius from NYC.

NYC - Don't bother looking in the 5 boroughs/Long Island, you will be faced with generally a 7-15k markup on these vehicles.

NJ - I want to give a shout out to Tito @ Sansone Kia (Woodbridge), he has been a straight shooter. They are selling incoming vehicles @MSRP but there is a mandatory package that comes to about 3k~ which includes a lo-jack device, interior protectant/warranty and VIN Etching with a 699 doc fee.

Upstate NY -
I decided to purchase my vehicle from Duchess Kia, ask for Joe Ossipo 845-462 - 7700 EXT 24 joesepho@dutchesscars.com. I put my deposit down on a Wolf Grey SXP Nightfall with 3k>MSRP from Joe. He is also a straight shooter and their doc fee is $222.50 and the specific vehicle had a lower MSRP which made sense for us since we didn't want the tow package/running board that was offered elsewhere.

PA - If you looking to place an order, give Ernie Kemper @ Sunbury Motors Kia a call. They have a relatively short list right now ~15-20 last I checked and they are taking orders @MSRP. I was quoted 6-8 months but jump on this as I believe orders will come in once the word is out.

The other dealers in the tristate areas that were previously mentioned here have been pretty saturated and orders are closer to 10-12 months. I decided to pay >MSRP to secure a 2022 model year because the released photos of the mid year refresh on the 2023 model did not appeal to me. I know there is a group of people here that would agree with me and I think once people realize this the new 2023 refresh people will scramble to snatch up the remaining 2022s. I would strongly recommend reaching out to Joe if you are interested, has another black on black SXP nightfall coming in. I hope this helps save you guys some time and my way of trying to give back to the community.
Just wanted to thank you for this post.

Did you try Stamford in your hunt? Saw somewhat outdated reference to them being a good option?

Ben Comai of Elhart Kia in Holland, Michigan was great to work with and not a penny over MSRP! Great work, Ben! Picked up this beauty yesterday.

How long did you wait?

Hello nksauer-

I can’t vouch for other sales consultants but Cody made the process pretty much pain free. I did my research in advance and knew what I wanted. No attempts to upsell me.

When I went in to pay for the vehicle, I had to ask the finance guy to remove the rustproofing charges he put on the purchase agreement as I had not requested it. I had 2 options for the warranty—with the $100 deductible-$1485 or without a deductible-$1573. I did have to negotiate the lower rate—the rate started at $2100+. All the good information about the extended warranties on this forum really made that easy! All of this happened a few days before the vehicle was actually delivered to the dealership so the rustproofing had not been done. If it had been done, I would not have paid for it.

Just a heads up on the extended warranty—make sure the information you hear matches up with the information in the actual service contract. The brochure states $100 per event for towing, the service contract says $75. The brochure states $40 per day for alternate transportation/car rental but the service contract says $35. Waiting on clarification from the finance area on the differences.

Once the Telluride arrived at the dealership, Cody drove it to my house—which I appreciated as I wasn’t trading in any of my other cars. Any questions or concerns have been addressed quickly by Cody.

I think you will have a different experience this time around if you reach out to Cody!

Good Luck!

I am calling today to place my order! One last question for you. You mentioned no upsell attempts. When I was there a couple of years ago they tired to tell me the rust proofing was no optional. I also saw someone in another post mention the same thing. Did you have to pay the $900 for rust proofing?

My Telluride is finally on the way home to Texas. Left Waukegan last night via transport company. John and the folks at Classic Kia have been great. Ordered in October.

Here is my story with South Shore Kia of Long Island. Today I am pissed !! I drove my new Kia Telluride that was purchased and driven home on October 30th, 2021. I paid $7000 over MSRP which I was not happy about BUT accepted due to conditions at the time. I was told that I would be getting 11 FREE OIL CHANGES if I bought the car. I noticed 2 days later that there was no paper trail about the free oil changes. I went back and was told by the finance guy, "don't worry about that", its in our computer that you bought from us and when you come in it will show up. After I left on Feb.6th for a cross country trip to California and back to NY. I put 8500 miles on the car since new and it now needed an oil change and tire rotation. I made the appt. with the dealer where I purchased the car. Today I arrive and say I am here for the service and NAV system update. The service guy tells me that it will be $80 for the oil change $44 for the tire rotation, NAV update is free. I tell him that I have 11 free oil changes coming. *****He tells me "no".....that was with the old dealership owner who sold the business on Nov. 1st !!!! What a bunch of f'n bull sheet !! They did come around and give me the oil change for free ,today. But, no more . I will be sending off a letter to Kia Corporate about this bait and switch and my sister in law is a well known newsreporter for a local TV station. Maybe she will be interested in a scam story. I was told that Kia dealers are all independently owned and they can do what they want. I was lied to and they knew damn well that the dealer was changing owners and never notified me of the ramifications. While sitting in the waiting room, another woman was there and she was unaware that they would be charging her for her "free" oil change. I few minutes later , I could hear her screaming and they gave her a free one "this time". Under the new ownership, the dealer has improved visually and have much more product on the sales floor. BUT....they should be honoring the past deals made by the original owner. I'll be contacting KIA Corporate, TV station and the Better Business Bureau. The name on the front is still the same as the old dealership. On a good note, the Telluride was a great drive cross country.

That sucks. If your sister in law is a consumer reporter just have her email with her company email asking what the deal is. A lot of time that is enough. You should have gotten the contact info of the other customer. Depending on how the sale of the dealership was constructed the new owners may or may not be responsible for the oil changes. You could make the argument that you prepaid $7k for those changes. BBB is a waste of time. You can email the dealer management and CC the New York State department of consumer affairs.

Ultimately, you might have no real claim and will rely on the good will of the new ownership.

Long-time lurker, first time poster. Having zero luck with Phoenix dealers who all wanted $7k over MSRP plus dealer add-ons, based on the positive experiences detailed in this forum, I reached out to Fowler Kia (fka I25 Kia) in Longmont, CO. I used the online order form to build a Telluride, and the next morning I received an email from Dumitru Pop, who walked me through the process of ordering at MSRP plus a $699 dealer fee. He quoted 6-8 months order time for an EX FWD with tow package. My wife and I will fly in and drive it back when it arrives.

Dumitru made it so easy. He's such a laid-back, pleasant guy to deal with. While on the phone with him, I asked if Fowler Kia was also selling the EV6 at MSRP as our 2013 Nissan Leaf is getting a little long in the tooth. Indeed they are, and wouldn't you know that they had the exact combination of EV6 on order that I was looking for? So I put my name on the EV6, which is due to arrive early March. Dumitru made two sales in one day!

If you're anywhere close to Denver, don't look anywhere else than Fowler Kia, and Dumitru is your guy. Here's his contact info (I'm sure it's been posted before):

Shout out to Sussman Kia in Roslyn, PA. I contacted them about a telluride and was told all incoming were sold out. Turned out someone bailed out of a deal, they contacted me and we were able to secure an LX AWD. We wanted captains chairs but I think the bench will work just fine. Paid $2k Markup but I feel it was worth it rather than waiting 6 to 12 months, I wanted to get this purchase over with. Glad we went with the Telly, I’m really impressed with the interior.

Good luck to everyone else searching.

I also mentioned that prior to my trip, the Nav system would say it needed an update. Other posters on here said that the car was brand new and shouldn't really need an update yet. WRONG. The dealer told me to make another appointment for the update which will take over 3 hours to upload !! So, before you pick up your new ride, check to make sure your NAV is up to date. During my trip, cross country, the NAV did try to lead me astray a few times, but I knew better and let it "recalculate route". It did get me one time and had me drive thru the ghetto of Memphis TN. Good thing I carry a gun. It made my trip to Nashville 45 minutes longer. Use a Google maps app for better nav information or the WAZE app.

Did you also order through Dumitru or another sales rep? Did they give the same 6-8 month order timeframe? Did you ask about cost to ship to Phoenix? It's a beautiful drive from Denver, just curious about the cost comparison.

It was another sales rep Sabastian (Sp?), he also told us 6-8 months. We were number 77 on the list on 1/10, I checked a few weeks ago and we had moved up to number 53.

Love it! I have the same car coming to PA in late March. Care to share interior color? And how did you get front emblem black??

You have to paint it or get an vinyl overlay :)

I'm curious how you found out your place in the order line. I asked our Sales Rep out of Fowler and he said he doesn't have that information as they dont necessarily take people in order when they're picked up by Kia. Makes no sense why others can get that info, but some cant lol.
