Canadian SX Limited - Extended wait times

My dealer finally cracked from my pressure and acknowledged there is a nappa leather shortage, and the SX Limited won't be available anytime soon. USA gets priority. They basically told me to expect to wait another 2 months minimum and they themselves offered to refund my deposit. I took my deposit back because that model is not coming to Canada until AT LEAST September.

Anyone in the same boat? I ordered Apr 10th. Dark Moss.

I believe the dealer ordered the SXL themselves at the very beginning…

Don't goto KIA Vancouver!

Put down deposit in mid of March, later Frank said he can order the SXL under my name and other dealer cannot order the same car the the same customer, but my deposits would become non-refundable!

I wasted time and money at KIA Vancouver.
If you are near the Greater Vancouver area, KIA West is a good one … just look at the stock they have.

I put an order in Hamilton on Apr 10. They originally said early June, but now after some pressure they gave in and offered my my deposit back because they don’t know when they will get it. They are not being made because of Napa leather shortage. USA getting priority. So basically expect to wait until September.

I am a bit anxious, hoping to have it ready for road trip in late June, so I didn't ask for any discount, just want to get a good price for my trade in...
I traded in my 2014 Sorento (they actually paid me above the black book price).
Lucky to get the celebration discount $1,000 as well.
The same price KIA has on the "build and price" page.
(Current KIA owner get a percent off finance. I chose the 60mo at .99%)

Great, thanks. I’m in a similar boat as I too have a 2014 Sorento I’m looking to trade in. Sounds like it will be at least a couple more months until they get any more SXL’s in.

Mine is a LX 7 passengers, V6 with after market leather seats.
Around the same millage as yours, 78k.
(Black book $13k)
They offered me $14k

Hey everyone,

So i just contacted Kia Canads regarding the SXL wait times and was told to expect them to be in Ontario by mid August...I'm hoping that is accurate and doesnt change.

Has anyone else heard anything different? I was originally told by my dealer it wouldnt be here till end of November beginning of December. However they also told me that they weren't in production yet and mentioned nothing about a nappa leather shortage!

My dealer offered me a refund... which surprised me. They said it will still be a while but didn’t give a date so I legit think they just don’t know at this point. Kia Canada is probably trying to keep sales up but the problem is USA will get priority so November doesn’t sound crazy to me.

Are you actually waiting? I decided to cancel and wait for 2021 or used 2020.

At this point I am going to wait, I'm not in a rush and there isnt another car on the market with the technology and luxury for that price. Also a 2021 wont be here till mid next year and I'm not waiting that long. So at this point I'm good till November I guess

Hi Mario, does that apply to the EX model too? because i ordered one mid June and every week they say "soon"

Hello Everyone,

First, I am very grateful for this forum and I really wanted to speak my word, but felt I was going no where with Kia Canada. We got super excited hearing about Kia Telluride and decided to go with it. Our local dealership (Milton, Ontario) said, " we have an SXL ordered for us and it should be here soon !! "

This was on April 11th, when we placed a deposit and got a Bill of Sale with no VIN . Interesting fact, when we were placing the order, the guy showed his screen , which clearly stated 1 Kia Telluride SXL - In Production - ETA August 2019. That was flag right there and we asked about it, but they reassured that they will be able to track down a car faster and have it delivered prior to that ETA.

I had to call them every other week for an ETA (Which is another flag, coz you start questioning the Customer Service and say why do I have to keep calling you for an update ?) - We called KIA Canada, who also failed to give us any update and no regards in calling us back . In June, we had some email exchange with the sales manager, who assured us that the Bill of Sale has been forwarded and Kia Canada would reserve a car for us.

Today, we find out that both the General Manager and Sales Manager are no longer with the Dealership, and we still do not have an ETA for the SXL. We did hear about the Nappa Leather Shortage but if you see Kia Canada website , they now have 4 Trims ! EX - SX - SXL and SXL w/Nappa.

So at this point we are really questioning,
Should we still wait at it has already been 3 months ?
Can Kia just give us a SXL as we dont care about the Nappa ?
Should we back out and get our money back ?
How do we get more inside info like from a Rep or even a Distribution Manager who knows what is going on ?

Sorry for the vent but had to let it out as it is really frustrating !!

I'd find out a definitive answer on WHEN you're going to get an SXL trim. You can re-establish new relationships with the dealer and politely ask them.

Do not lose your temper or be negative with the dealer as that will not help your case.

If you do not get a definitive answer, I'd move on to a different dealer.

You could, on the other hand, get a SX trim. There is way more stock with the SX trim, it appears.
