Good Dealer Dealings - List Your Good Dealer Experience

The loophole is accepting the dealer-arranged financing, then refinance elsewhere at a lower rate. Dealers lose out on their commission for financing if the loan is paid off within 90 days. Before you go this route, confirm with your prospective lender that the same rate you were preapproved for would still apply to a refinance. You’ll also want to read your dealer-arranged loan agreement carefully and understand any penalties, such as an early termination fee.
Thank you! Thats what I did with my campervan but I'd like to avoid doing an another paperwork if it is possible.

I'm assuming then they are making their commission hopping people forget to refinance? Seems to be arbitrary to force in house financing and then suggest that I can refinance one I get home. That's what my sales rep told me to do.

If I were to continue this route, I can stop do pre-approvals now they a VIN has been assigned? It's so then I gotta get a move on and with with some CU to ensure the refinance would be the same.

I am in the same boat. I was not informed that they dont take outside financing. This is ridiculous. I am going to try credit unions. They usually provide (at least in past two experience with me) a check payable to the dealer that is overnighted to you. This way it is effectively a cash sale for Arapahoe even though it is considered financing by the credit union.
I am curious to know about your dealings -Asianslaw and sirlan - if you can inform us oh what happened it will be much appreciated. I am supposed to take ownership in March.
Yeah I'm not sure what to say. Someone on the/r/kiatelluride subreddit posted about this concern after having confirmed outside financing was okay with their rep and the reps manager. Only to find out on delivery day that they wouldn't accept their already approved financing so they walked. Lots of people agreeing and saying dealership is shady and should be reported. But Seth, my rep was up front with me and told me about it. And I got downvoted. So who knows.

I'm curious what people who have already taken delivery thought about the process and if a) it felt shady? b) what was their rate in house vs outside c) if they refinance yet d) did they care that much ....

I can take delivery a month early and not pay over MSRP, get a little road trip out of it this car and get an XPro vs X-Line, although I'm sacrificing prestige. 18 inch wheels would be way better for winter in MN than the 20s which I think is a plus for the XPro

  • BoA has published rates - 5.39%
  • CUofCO -
  • Capital One - has prequalifying but its (6.51%)
  • datatrac site shows local bank rates(select from the dropdown) - you need to call to confirm with each
The best option is to ping the dealer and get a list of banks they work with, haven't done that but after hearing this story I will. I'd rather not pay cash but if they really want to not make money on the backend that is their loss. After watching my parents deal with dealer games growing up, I have zero patience for any of the games. Always be happy to walk, more and more dealers are getting inventory and if they don't have the sales, they get less allotment the next month. There are some amazing dealers out there that really enjoy the business of selling cars, are super knowledgeable, and focus on keeping their customers happy at a fair price. The people I have talked with at Arapahoe are so far in that camp and have been up front about outside financing limitations. To be continued... :)

Thanks for that insight. I have a couple CU that I'm hoping I can refi with that are 3-4%. Tower federal, Park community and Gold Coast.

I'm gonna do research on the surrounding area banks this week then!

I just got a call from Lev Kia that my car (albeit not the exact specs...see below) is here. I've asked about their financing rates (mid 5%) but currently, they are working on what my trade in would be worth. Current, DCU in MA is offering 5.24% and like others, probably easier to go with Kia financing and then refinance later. However, even if I were to stick with Kia financing, I calculate I would pay a few bucks a month more and about $250-300 total interest over the life of the loan (with trade-in, etc.)

In terms of the car, I ordered a 2022 SX with Nightfall Edition, which was then changed to SX-Prestige X-Line, Gravity Grey with Terracotta interior. What came in was SX X-Line, Gravity Grey with Black interior and looking over what we would lose, not too concerned about.

Just wanted to report my smooth transactions with Lev Kia in Framingham, MA.

Ordered with $500 deposit and agreement to sell at MSRP on 12/21/22.
White/ Dune SX P/N/T
Got the call on 8/17/22 that it was at the dealer and ready to schedule pick up.
Picked up last night (8/23/22). They added $475 for Doc fee and $130 for new plate/registration.
The finance guy tried to sell me an array of Maintenance Packages, but I declined.
Paid in full with a cashier's check and was done.
I highly recommend Lev Kia for an MSRP order.

Got it just as the news broke about the recall...so yeah...there's that. LOL!
Do you know what was included in the doc fees? I'm picking mine up soon and want to understand the extra costs.

New here....looking for a dealer in South Florida (but willing to drive if there are none down here) that doesn't charge over MSRP and will allow us to do an order if they can't easily find the exact trim and color combination we want.

Thanks!!!
Hi did you find an MSRP deal in South Forida? I'm in Palm Beach and have been working the different dealerships down against each other, but not as low as I want yet

Oye... this is not giving me good vibes about my order with them. Back in June '22 I ordered a 23 Gravity Gray/Black SX Prestige X-Line, and kind of hoping that's what I get.

When did you originally place your order? Please keep us posted with how things go; I've been kind of dubious about their communication but it was the best deal I could get so I've stayed with them,

Question for others/Lev Kia customers: Is it common for the dealers to literally get a different car and say "yours is here!"? It doesn't sound like the changes were communicated... how does that happen?

We placed a $1,000 deposit last week with International Kia of Orland Hills outside of Chicago for an SX X-Line at MSRP plus $605 of government fees and doc fees. It’s supposed to be in on Feb 4th.

I’ll update everyone on how it goes but it has been very smooth so far.

Sounds to me like they are trying to (i0 cover their mistake of wrongly ordering or (2) offload a allocated vehicle (not your special order) or someone elses unpicked up order. You dont have to take that car. You can ask for the one you ordered or else get your money back. Many of these cars are being unsold as interest rates have gone up and companies are mandating people back to work (city folks) leading to not needing a large SUV. . so there are many dealers you can now work with to get what you want.

Do you know any dealers in the MA area that are selling cars at MSRP? Aside from Lev?

I placed the order in Feb '21. We're ok with what we're not getting but I can appreciate how not getting what you ordered can be a problem. I'll keep this thread updated on the details of my transaction over the next few days/weeks.

Definitely give him a call and say that you've heard that people who've ordered the vehicle with configuration X are not getting that and what's the deal with that. I'd love to hear what he says on that front for you.

When I asked why it was different to what I ordered, I was told Kia is now building what they want to build, vs what people have ordered. When I asked about the different interior, he says that Kia was giving custom interior colors a much lower priority, and in terms of why "mine" wasn't a Prestige, he wasn't sure why it was built wrong.

Sounds exactly like what @dcreno is saying.

I have yet to find one; in fact, I believe new orders at Lev are over MSRP now (since July/Aug of 22). I chatted with Quirk via text back in November and while they were still $5k over, they were confident they could get the exact car I wanted in just a few months. May be worth checking in with them.

At the end of the day all that matters is you're happy with your new car, even if it's not exactly what you originally had in mind. I hope everything works out for you, definitely keep us posted on how it all shakes out!

I ordered from Lev around the end of Mar 2022 with the same 500 down and pay MSRP. An exact match just came up on fail cat that I hope is mine. It has been 10 months. Thanks for the info on the doc fee etc.

Thats just complete BS. If you look at failcat "custom" interiors like terra cota are flying out the door daily. My guess is they are trying to sell you someone else's vehicle and will try to sell yours at a premium when it finally comes in.
