2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

Sounds like the AWD is having these problems. Could be in the transmission that converts over to AWD? No a mechanic here but just bringing up questions especially sine I am waiting on mine next week ETA. Please all keeps us informed on answers so we all can get KIA to notice the problem if one does exists on more that one Telluride.

I set the speed for 69 mph (to get in the vibration "zone") and then changed the gear from 8th to 7th and then to 6th just to make sure that the RPMs had nothing to do with the vibration. It is the speed, not the RPMs that cause the vibration. I told the service guy about that and he said that this information lets him know that the problem is not in the transmission.

I also did another test to see if the vibration goes away under an acceleration load. I started at 60 mph where I don't notice vibration and accelerated fairly quickly through 75 mph and the vibration still showed up in the 68-74 mph range as usual.

I believe Albert Ruiz has his service appointment tomorrow (Saturday) and I am sure we all are watching to see if a solution is found!

That takes out the drive shaft and any of the drive train now. It's back to tires, wheels, wheel bearings, hubs, rotors.

I have my appointment at the dealer in less than an hour. Im not expecting much on this first trip because I know they are going to look at the tires first for balancing, I’m hoping to steer them away from that and look at other possible issues. I’ll let you all know how it goes.

I wish I had better news. When I showed up for my appointment the service writer was surprised that they scheduled me on a Saturday for that type of an issue. Saturday’s are reserved for regular maintenance. There are no specialists on hand to diagnose such an issue. He suggested that even though I had on my own gotten the tires balanced to let them do it so they have documentation showing that it has been done. So guess what? I got my tires balanced To no surprise, it didn’t help. But anyway when I bring it back Monday, when their “Telluride Specialist” is in they can look elsewhere since the balancing of the tires have been eliminated.
I will keep posting updates.

Just picked up an SX AWD a week ago and drove from Louisville to Cincinnati. At about 70mph there was a general vibration that reminded me of wind turbulence with roof mounted crossbars I had in a previous Highlander. So I took the crossbars off the SX and the problem remains. General vibration at about 65+ and gets better at about 75. I have an appointment tomorrow morning.

I am having the same exact problem with vibration at same speeds. Let me know what they say. Thanks

Just wanted to chime in for the data that after reading this I drove on the highway between 65-75 yesterday and did not detect anything that felt/sounded abnormal.

Yes. I have only gone on two trips on the highway int he 1.5 months I have had it. One was over 4 hours before I had read about this and I hadn't noticed anything but I tested again yesterday just to make sure. Most all my driving is sub 50.

1) What magic words do we say to the service department to have them look into this - just "CV Joints hitting harmonic distortion?"
2) What kind of tests do they do to verify the problem?
3) What do they do to fix the problem?

I agree. That or driveshaft out of balance.
