• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Does the Telly have that awful automatic stop / start feature, and if it does can it be disabled?

I know it does based on previous posts, but not sure if it can be disabled. I'd assume no. Do you have it on any cars you own? You actually forget about it after awhile. I have it on my wife's Malibu and at first we hated it but now we don't even notice it.

Yeah, we have it on our Cadillac XT5 and hate it. some other manufactures allow you to shut it off.

Have it on my Audi S7. However, the default position is "off"

You can disable it, but have to disable it each time you turn the car on. The Stinger forum some people have disabled it permanently by wedging a business card tinto th switch to hold it down. I have just made it part of my start up routine. Start button, ISG off, Auto hold on.

I hate, hate, hate stop and start engines. When I saw the button to turn it off, I pressed it and turned it off. I went for the test drive with it off. After I was done, my wife did the same test drive, stop and go traffic the same route and same traffic I did. She did not tell me but she turned it on because she wanted to test it out. I DID NOT NOTICE. I was listening to how the car sound and how it sounded. I was listening for the road noise. I was looking for performance issues, and I could not tell the car was turning off. I don't know how they did it, but you have to really be on the ball to notice it was turning off and on. And we where in stop and go traffic. We waited for several stop lights.

Does the engine start/stop function described have any difference in the engine carbon build up described in other posts? I know in years past before start/stop, short trips were a contributing factor for carbon buildup. Thoughts?

I would think it would have minimal difference on any carbon build up. In the Stinger you can tell when it shuts off and comes back on, but it is not as quiet as the Telluride is. You will probably be able to tell on a hot day and that AC doesn't blow as cold as possible when sitting at a light.

I thought it would bother me more than it does, I hardly notice it.

I agree. I had the same feature on previous BMWs and it was implemented so poorly that the entire vehicle would shutter when the engine came back on. The Telluride Auto-SS is much smoother and barely noticeable.

The part that bugs me is how it affects the AC.

Beyond the A/C issue mentioned above, I just don’t really notice anymore after driving this thing for a week or so. It’s not like it was years ago where it was very abrupt and clunky. I was turning it off and at some point forgot to and rarely even notice it.

So, what do some of you think, I would say someone qualified, about engine restarting like that lets say 100x a day? What will it do to the engine components, do you think it’s better that is doing that vs idling?

I notice all new cars pretty much doing this.

Starting and stopping a warm engine is not really that bad as long as the components that are being abused is beefed up to the task or easily replaced. Will that be the actual case 10 years from know, I don't know. I hope so. But we will see.

One reason we should let policy follow technology not tell technology what it has to do.

I think the start/stop feature on cars now is one of the smartest inventions put into cars. Studies show it can improve fuel efficiency by over 8% in drives requiring frequent stops. Ever been in line at a bank, or waiting for a train, or dead stopped on the freeway for many reasons? Dozens of cars just idling away...what a waste. It’s a tremendously small inconvenience that helps our world a lot, and the car makers make it very easy to use —- and still people complain about it.

I’m signing off from this forum. Thanks to the admin (I bought the metal emblems👍), though way too many people are getting on here to complain. Buzz kill!

I’m not complaining, I’m just trying to learn. Can’t wait to have that feature on my next car and even though having a big SUV, helping planet just a little bit...

It only saves gas if you make stops lasting more then 10 seconds.
