• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I understand the logic and the benefits behind shutting down the engine at every stoplight. I just don’t care for it, so I manually turn it off almost every time I drive. Anyone know how to make that a permanent setting?

I hope there is a memory setting for that. I don’t like this function as well.

The only way they have done it on the stinger is some people shoved a business card in the button to hold it down and just shaved the card off so it's barely visible. Somebody else actually took the console apart and put electrical tape under the button so it was always depressed. Either way worked.

I can't shut it off in my Cherokee either. Have to push the button each time. That being said, I heard that the Telluride's implementation feels better than most. I'm sure I'll end up disabling it most of the time.

I can confirm this works on the Telluride as well. I jammed a business card in there and now it deactivates auto-off every time I turn the car on :)

First time I saw this feature was a late model luxury car spotted at a stop sign and i thought to myself how sad that car stalled out that the owner had to restart it. Now everytime I see it I get annoyed at the sound of the engine restarting.

Lately I have noticed that the Auto-Off feature is enabled by default when I first get in the car an pull away. I haven’t had to manually turn it off in a while. I’m typically roaming around in Smart Drive Mode, so now I’m wondering if it’s learning my driving habits.

I do not find the Auto start/stop feature to be intrusive. The restart is MUCH smoother than my previous BMWs (which would remember the AS/S setting at the time. I also find that when you bring the vehicle to a stop but do not completely depress the brake pedal that the AS/S does not kick in even when the vehicle is stopped.

Yeah, sorry. I meant to say diasabled.

Not sure that’s possible. However, there are conditions where Auto-stop will not engage, such as fan speed of greater than 3 or when you stop by lightly pressing on the brake pedal. Perhaps you are meeting those conditions?

I'm surprised why manufacturers don't offer option to remember last auto-start activation/deactivation setting or offer it as an option in settings menu.
Not complaining about auto-start of Telluride though, its very smooth esp. when you press an accelerator to move and engine auto-starts. You feel a light shudder when engine auto starts if you are waiting , say at a signal, for some time without moving.

Sometimes my auto start button works and the car shuts off perfectly fine. The auto start light turns green when this happens. Other times the auto start light turns yellow and the car does not shut off.. anyone know why this happens ? Is something wrong ?

Think that’s normal. Happens to mine. It’s obviously being overridden by some mysterious Kia algorithm that we don’t fully comprehend. Perhaps climate control...

There's tons of reasons why it might not. Rear defrost on, Climate fan at 6 or above speed. trans or engine not at operating temp, interior temp too far away from selected temp.. There's more but can't remember them all right now.

I wonder if this is why mine will sometimes "remember" and sometimes won't. I haven't really noticed a difference between the drive modes so I switch them occasionally to see if I can figure it out. If Smart mode keeps the memory of this setting I'll leave it on that all the time. I'm in Florida and sitting at a light with the engine off just recirculates the cabin air. Cabin air in a black interior starts warming within seconds and gets uncomfortable long before the light changes.

I don’t have a manual because my vehicle is still on order. But I like to still know if I can keep it disable every time!
