Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

I've been looking at the Telluride for a few years but backed off during the covid craziness. Unfortunately our vehicle got totalled by another driver who ran a red light and boom, I have to buy a car in the worst market ever. I've talked to so many dealers and my take on Kia dealers as a whole is pretty bad. I've bought 3 Odysseys, 4 Accords, some civics but this is my first non-honda new car attempt in over 15 years. One dealer (Kia of Des Moines) pretty much just laughed at me when I said I wanted to test drive one. They acted like it was a huge deal just to let me sit inside one (had to go get some keys...big pain in the rear). Order one for delivery in 5 months and you get to pay 5K market adjustment. One dealer in Lawrence came down to MSRP (plus a $500 dealer fee) and I finally caved for that...but now they're saying I have to use their financing (3.75%) when I have my own for considerably less. I'm so turned off on Kia as a company that I'm thinking of leasing something for a couple years and buying a Pilot once they regain their mojo.

A lot of brands and dealers are going to cashier check in full(No drafting) or finance with dealer itself only. Best solution for this is to just refi the loan right away through your credit union/personal bank and you will still get the new car rate.

The market is just crazy.

Just got this email from a dealer in Columbus... I asked for a black or gray SX prestige. He says they are only making 40,000 Tellurides this year? That can't be right....

"Hi this is Bill from Byers, I'll put you on the waiting list for that trim level and color, Kia has a limited production of 40,000 Tellurides this model year."

That seems silly…

500k to these dealerships is chump change. They should be suspended from selling any cars for 3-6 months and only be allowed to service vehicles.

Courtesy dealerships often sell at MSRP but lowball trades. My experience with Courtesy Hyundai was hilarious. They offered $15K less than every physical dealership on my new Model Y that was thinking of trading it for an Ioniq 5 (at MSRP). My EV6 experience with Courtesy Kia was just as unpleasant.

I gave them a second shot without a trade and suddenly the available vehicle wasn't available after all. Prolly not illegal but f'ing annoying as h*ll.

Sell the car to like Carvana or Carmax, and skip using their trade in numbers. If you have a chance to get a Telluride; especially exactly what you want, I’d pounce on it. IMHO

I did exactly this and went back to Courtesy Kia. They had an available car with the build I wanted but it became "unavailable" when I told them no trade in.

They make the most money off of the trade ins. They bought mine for $18500 and it later sold for $30,000 !!! 2 weeks ago I sold my 2018 Chev Colorado ZR2 for $40,000. I paid 43k for it 3 and a half years ago.

They’re making enough damn money. They are charging a market adjustment; 10k in most cases. They are already making money by selling AT MSRP. Hell, they make money selling at INVOICE. They are making money on dealer add ons. They are making money in financing.

They are being GREEDY, and I can’t wait for the tables to turn.

After reading posts on these forums I thought about going with a dealership in MN or Denver based on good experience reviews, but thought I would first give my in state dealerships a chance as it would save me a plane ticket or the cost of shipping a vehicle.

My local dealership was quoting 6-8 months, and while longer than I would have preferred since I had a son turning 16 and that would mean 6-8 months of driving him to school and arranging my work schedule to make that work. Not finding any better options I settled in for the wait and made things work. At the 6 month mark (Dec 2021) things were looking okay - I was told my order was in the queue to be picked up by KFOS and from that point it should be 3-4 months. So, a bit longer than initially expected, but not by too much. Now it has been 10 months, and I am still being told it hasn't been picked up by KFOS yet, and I should expect 4 more months. They also indicated that it may be 2023 model instead of 2022 model (when I started the order it was a 2021 model).

I am tempted to put in another order at a different dealership, but I dread the thought of going to the back of the line and starting a year long process all over again.

It is so hard being a car buyer these days...

Put in order with one of the Colorado dealerships and I bet they'll deliver before your dealer will.

If you have been following my dispute with South Shore Kia, they have decided to to settle with me and give me a check for $750 to cover my next 10 oil changes. I have to go and sign a settlement agreement on Thursday . Good thing I'm a nice guy and not the suing type for stuff like this. I could have made this hurt. A lawyer friend said that since I have a "receipt" for paying $5390, that they gave me, they would be screwed in court.

You can add Ricart in OH to the bad dealer list. I was offered an S AWD in white last month at MSRP as long as I used in house financing. No problem. I was told to hold out a month, they would put me on their list to get the color I wanted during this months allocation. Being a person who values someone's word I called this month as instructed and now they want to add $1600 tint and protection plan.

I received my $750 settlement from So. Shore Kia . They did make me sign a legal document that Johnny Cochrane would have been proud of.

Koons Kia allegedly charged customers fees that were not included in the advertised price for a vehicle, and also charged for shipping costs that were already included in the advertised price.

Interesting article to read. Make sure to check and double check your paperwork when picking up your vehicle. The dealerships that are adding hidden fees, misc fees, etc. need to be held accountable. It’s hard to find an honest dealership these days

I wish I would have found this thread prior to my out of state purchase from Jeff Wyler Kia of Cincinnati. I flew in from Chicago on Feb 15, 2022 to pick up my vehicle around 2pm and got them all the info they needed prior to signing closing docs so I could drive back to Chicago. I was hoping for a speedy closing considering the deal was cash and no financing needed to be secured. I arrive to the dealership and was not greeted upon entering and had to go looking for someone to help me. I finally found my salesmen and we started the paperwork, all was good I thought. We complete the paperwork in a matter of 5 minutes and I ask if I can see the car before officially purchasing. He unfortunately does not know where the car is and needs to look for it, which took about 10-15mins. It was in the service department and unfortunately has not been washed or gassed up yet. We complete the paperwork and then I wait for the finance department to finalize the deal. The finance guy comes up to me and says I will have you sit with the new guy because I have to go pick up a prescription from across the street before they close. As I am waiting, the whole staff is picking out new clothes from some vendor out of a van and paying no attention to the customers that are at the dealership. After waiting for about an hour and a half for the new finance guy to sign off on the deal, I finally get called into his office where we complete the deal. I ask him about when I would get the title and he says probably a couple weeks, which I thought was pretty standard to allow funds to clear. I get out to the newly cleaned car and ask for the keys, which they hand me one. I ask about the second and the salesman says they'll ship me the other because he doesn't know where the other key is. Apparently the GM of the dealership was playing a joke on him or something, which was not appreciated and seemed like a bait and switch to me. I drive home to Chicago much later than I planned due to the clown show at this dealership. I wish this was the end of the saga, but it wasn't. Fast forward two weeks and I inquire about the title. They tell me I should be getting it any day now, so I wait and wait and wait. I follow up a few more times and they say it will be coming. I escalate the issue to the GM and he finally tracks it down after the salesman and sales manager do nothing. The GM tells me it is still with their finance department after over a month. My temp plates are set to expire in a few weeks and can not register the vehicle until I receive the title. I express my concern to the GM and he says "What do you want me to do about it? Submit your complaint to Kia...what are they going to do? Shut me down?" What wonderful customer experience! I ended up receiving my title 5 days after my temp plates expired. Please use this as a sign to NEVER use one of Jeff Wyler's dealerships ever again. They are run by a bunch of clowns that could care less about the customer because the vehicle is in such high demand. Please take your money elsewhere. If it wasn't for my twins being due that week I would have went elsewhere.

Yep sure did. $6k over. Trying to sell this Telluride because the one we ordered is arriving in a few weeks and has the dune interior we originally wanted. We'll see what I can get for it.
