Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

I received the same call from Bob on 2/25. I ordered at MSRP on 2/1
Same here. So I started calling around and found one arriving in 2 weeks at Ricart Kia in Columbus Oh at MSRP. Picking it up Thursday.

This just keeps getting better ! The "old" dealer must have been contacted by Kia about the deal that was made and they have reached out to me. I advised them I contacted Global Administrators to cancel the $5390 warranty/maintenance contract and now they are claiming that it was NEVER activated . BS !!! It says right on the paper it started the date of purchase. The guy told me that the oil changes and rotations are valued at about $500- $600. I told him that I have receipts from the dealer showing that each oil change and rotation are charging customers $125 w/tax. Now they are trying to get out of giving me a refund on the money that was paid without my knowledge. You just can't make this shyte up.
On the bright side of my car life.....I was approved by Cadillac to receive the 2022 Blackwing (only 1500 being made) and then I sold my 2018 Colorado for $40,000.......I paid $43,000 for it 3.5 years ago !!!

I just find this really deceptive and haven't seen any other dealers doing it.
https://www.jimmarshkia.com/new-vehicles/telluride/

They have the links to the window stickers and MSRP and then they list the "Jim Marsh Price" which matches the MSRP. But that is not really the price of course and they then have a market adjustment that they won't reveal until you're at the dealer.

I have to say that after scouring around, I appreciate the dealers that are just upfront with their markup on their websites, even if the adjustments are very high. The fact is that Kia underpriced this vehicle and the market price is just higher than MSRP- and that varies by market. I'd be OK paying the market price for it, but the scarcity and the effort required to hunt around is just annoying to me and will ultimately cause me to buy something else. Also, the shadiness of the dealers is a major turn off (showing inventory that isn't really there, misleading wait time representations, and pricing deception like the link above). Kia the manufacturer has improved, but it seems that the dealer network is more fit for the low quality brand that Kia used to be.

*Price does not include dealer fees, sales tax, or market adjustment.

This is how they get away with that. I don't think that would fly with the spirit of local consumer protection and trade laws. So feel free to email your concerns to your AG's office and maybe they get a nice letter asking them to explain their deceptive advertising practices.

The best experience I ever had buying a car was with Saturn. You walked in, they showed you a car, showed you the price. If you went to another dealer to shop, same exact price. The sales paperwork showed, price of vehicle, tax and title, plate fees.........DONE. They didn't try to sell you ANYTHING . They had stuff available, but you came back on your own to purchase anything else. I hear that Tesla sales are done the same way.

you mean to tell me your paint didn't fall off from not applying their $1,000 optional paint protection, or your tires went flat in a day from your 80% Nitrogen tires as opposed to the non-optional $500 dealer 100% nitrogen..... I kid

Sean from Ricart called me back Saturday to say they put my name on a new allocation that they got on 3/10. All the wolf gray ex have been spoken for - after a bit of stalking I see you got one lol. My question is How long did it take from the date Ricart got the allocations for yours to arrive? They haven’t called me with an eta yet.
Took about two months for them to match me up with my specific vehicle with an ETA and then about two months later, it arrived!

Yeah, you'd think that if anybody knew what the market adjustment would be, that would be Jim Marsh.

LOL. My local dealer has an EX-P/N on the lot. On their website they explicitly list MSRP as $52,495. Any educated consumer knows that is a lie. Which is proven when you click through to the sticker.

Is that even legal?

Show them the actual MSRP sticker and let them know that's the price you want to pay They need to break down the price if they have a markup

Nah, I'm not even doing business with them. I already have an order in for an SX-PNT (at MSRP, which is cheaper than what Beyer is pretending MSRP is for this EX-P) with a dealership an hour away that should be delivered later this spring/summer.

I just thought it was scummy.

Definitely avoid Dennis Dillon Kia!

First they mislead you by posting prices on their website at MSRP without noting their high markups.
Then, they claim they have something in stock and when you press for details they admit that it's not really in stock.
Then comes the "but, I have this other one at higher price..." where they try to obscure their ridiculous markup by quoting out the door pricing instead of being up front that they charge $7500 over MSRP.

They really should just have put that on their website instead of their scumbag bait and switch approach. Hope people stay far away from them.

I’m still new to this forum and learning the process but I have a question that I hope someone can answer.

There is a dealership in my state that has 32 tellurides listed with a market adjustment of $4k-$9k depending on the model. According to failcat, they’re still receiving quite a bit on a weekly basis. How are they still receiving so many when they have so many listed? I thought I read somewhere this process is almost like a swap, once they sell what they have they’re able to order more. Any insight?

I just took a look at my local dealer. They have 41 Tellurides listed. Unless things have changed, though, most of what’s listed are vehicles that are matched up to an existing order. I’d be surprised if there are very many that aren’t already spoken for.

When I bought mine (end of September 2021) it was the only SX in that month’s allocation — and one of just a few overall — that wasn’t matched up to an order. It happened to be the exact color and option package that I wanted. At the time they had a 10% markup, which I was able to negotiate down.

Greenway Kia in Longwood are terrible to deal with. Called ahead of time to ask about dealer fees, doc fees, etc. Guy on the phone claimed they only have a $899 dealer fee and was told delivery times were 4 to 6 weeks. Showed up the next day to put a deposit down. Was not able to meet the guy I talked to on the phone, first red flag. A very inexperienced and soft spoken salesman sat me down at a table and requested my ID for a deposit. I obliged and asked a question about shipping times. Salesman couldn't answer my question so he disappeared to the back desk and came back and told me 2 to 4 months, second red flag. I then asked about dealer fees and doc fees, he disappeared again to ask another question. He came back with a price sheet with a total markup $13,000 over MSRP on the website after delivery charges. One of which was a $2,000 factory inspection fee. I pressed him hard on this fee asking for details about it and he could only say it was checking oil and coolant levels. After getting frustrated with the salesman constantly getting up to ask questions to the back desk and his constant aloofness or arrogance about the rediculous fees I asked for my license back so I could leave. He refused to give me back my license after I asked him 4 times. Finally positioned myself to be able to reach across his desk, keyboard and his arms to snatch my license back and I promptly walked out. HORRIBLE experience.

A conversation I am LITERALLY, currently having with Fred Beans of Langhorne...

  • From your website....
  • The Fred Beans Family of Dealerships does not believe in marking the car up, just to mark it down. The Price you see on the window is the actual price of the car, what we like to refer to as Fred Beans Best Price Pledge.
  • yet, you're charging a $5000 markup on a PREowned Telluride S
  • Hi Matt, nice to meet you!
  • Detailed Pricing Market Value Price $43,998 Fred Beans Price $48,993
  • I am more than happy to assist you with your vehicle updated price inquiry.
  • Are you interested in the used 2021 Telluride S you were looking at online?
  • No, because it is $5000 over "market value price."
It's crazy. They have listed, ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE, that shit about "we don't believe in marking a car up, just down," yet they are charging a $5000 upgrade. Amazing.

If the markup price is the price on the window, then that’s their actual price. ’Murican Loophole…

Now if they’re showing MSRP on the window, then that’s an issue. Not that they’re going to do anything (again, ‘Murica), but if you want to have some fun and kill some time, call your state’s Attorney General Office and file a complaint.

Just out of curiosity, what was the name of the sales guy you dealt with (in person)?

Not surprised about that dealership. My EV6 (attempted) buying experience with them was a complete joke. Completely clueless about what they are selling too.
