Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

Argued? About what, they didn't want to sell it?

You name it, it was argued. Kia doesn't allow ordering for Tellurides. The dealer-installed options that are not yet installed must be installed... etc. They didn't want to sell it for MSRP and had no interest in locking in a buy on the allocation at MSRP in advance. Stupid if you ask me but they're entitled to run their business as they wish.

So sorry. Seems to be quite a bit of this going on.

Kia of Chula Vista (California) - welcome to the bad dealer experience list and thanks so much for hanging up on me, that was awesome. In short, they have the model/trim/option package and color of the Telluride coming in. Kia corporate actually directed me to talk with them after helping me find the vehicle I want in-transit. The salesman argued with me almost non-stop - absolutely no level of customer service in the conversation and I have a particular distaste for salesmen that misrepresent things.

They'll have my car in a few weeks but they won't be getting my business.
Report them IN WRITING to KIA Corporate!

I just started researching the Telluride and Suntrup Kia/Hyundai in St. Louis, MO are marking up like crazy. Same with Palisade. On Autotrader, they have the majority of available Telluride SX and Palisade Limited stock and are selling as much as 10K over MSRP.

This is why I still didn’t buy Kia and will likely go Hyundai(even they mark up). Dealers here in California are ridiculous, they are so snobby and think just because a lot of people here have throw away money that everyone want to throw away money to depreciating asset! I can’t stand them, and on top of that add 10% tax, wtf.

Exactly and your totally right. People are willing to pay these ridiculously inflated prices not realizing there financing more car than it’s worth. A car depreciates the minute you drive it off the lot. Paying $5k-$10k or even $15k over MSRP when the true value of the car $35-$45k is ludicrous. I don’t know if people realize it but they’re underwater and the value won’t be there. If there’s an accident the insurance company is only paying the book value of the car not what you financed leaving people to pay the difference if you don’t have gap insurance. If your try to sell it or trading it you will never get what you put out for the vehicle not even close. It’s not smart business no matter how much money you have to over pay for something which gives no equity. We all want something its human nature to want but is it needed. It’s that want that drives people to make uninformed decisions. Yes I WANT a Telly but I’m also going to be smart about my purchase. Patience is a true virtue and I’m glad to see a lot of people on here have that virtue.

I just reached out to a dealer in PA that has the car I want. I am in NJ. His response to me was " Your contact info is a NJ address is this correct? We are unable to meet the local demand for Telluride and we are not offering our Telluride inventory to out of state customers at this time. If you are local to Lansdale or desire another Kia model please contact me." Lansdale Kia

You are spot on with everything you say here. I wonder though if the Telluride may be an exception to rapid loss of resale/trade in value due to the high demand. Even used ones may be much more desirable if KIA continues to underestimate demand. I hope so, since I am about to take possession of one.

In my opinion eventually the demand will die down just as it did with the Stinger. Dealers are now hard press to get them moved off their lot which is why they’ve marked them down, some significantly from what I’ve seen on the lots.

Unreal!!

Just went to Family Kia in Saint Augustine, Florida to look at a SX with prestige package, and my wife loved it (as did I) they even had the dune brown interior we were looking for and not black. The sales associate was very nice and pleasant, then she comes back from the managers office with a $56,000 sticker price. GTFO!

I said "we appreciate your time but I'm not paying an inflated price or a "market adjustment" there are plenty of other dealers around the country that will sell us a car" The manager, Jeff, walked over and tried to give me some bullshit story about every dealer is doing it and we won't find a dealer that isn't charging a markup, the poor guy couldn't keep a straight face long enough to believe his own crap.

Unfortunately this asshat just took a paycheck out of this poor woman's pocket.

Anyhow if anyone has a recommendation for a good dealer to work with, I'm all ears before I start the hunt for a better experience.

ps. apologize if you guys don't allow the language around here

Go with kia of Muncie, costco pricing plus rebates. Even if you have it shipped, it would probably be less than MSRP...good lck.

We'd love to help you below MSRP!

Heard it all before. Just because "every dealer is doing it" doesn't make it right or the honest thing to do. I'd challenge "Jeff" to give you a list of dealers that are "dong it" because you'd like to send that list to Kia corporate. More bad experiences it seems than good ones for people. Some folks get lucky. Some states are worse than others as has been posted a few times. They can EAT their inventory when they run out of suckers who will pay whatever these shady dealers ask.

Yep, I did and he just kept stumbling over his words trying to assure us that it was standard but couldn't rattle off his laundry list of dealers.

Just got off the phone with another local dealer, they add a $3,500 dealer option to all Telluride vehicles, guess what that is.....
- nitrogen tire fill
- Lumar paint protector
- bumper protector clear coat
- wheel locks
- lifetime oil change

Calling Jason now

Dan O'Brien Kia Norwood MA $4,000 markup. Pride Kia Lynn. $4,000 markup; said would sell for MSRP $49020, went there yesterday with money and paperwork in hand (including dealer Veteran's special of extra $500 off for Veterans) the manager Eric said he would not sell for MSRP and I wouldn't find a dealer with out a markup. He denied they had an extra Veteran's incentive (see attached).

Here is the email confirming that we could get the car for MSRP:

Subject:White Telluride grey interior

Hi, Tony,

Just to confirm, we want the white Telluride grey interior that we test drove Saturday, for the MSRP of $49020 (see attached). Doc fees $300, KMF 1000 for financing. Registration, inspection, title $179. I will want the veteran's plates - U.S. Army - do we need to get those ourselves? I will bring my DD 214 just in case. We will be adding the Telluride to our existing insurance for our other cars.
