Headlight Led Upgrade

Please help a desperate husband out.....

In true fashion I got caught up at work and with life and dropped the ball on finishing the research and procurement of HID or LED replacements for my amazing brides Telluride for upcoming Bday! I NEED TO GET THEM ORDERED TODAY .....LOL

It is a 2020 EX Telluride that I would like to get her the upgrade she had mentioned many times so I am open to either HID or LED REOLACMENTS on headlights and would like to also swap/upgrade all interior and exterior lighting that remains. I have briefly searched for adding the fog lights but feel that will be a tad more entailed for now and time available due to life and work.

I have read thru several pages when time allows but was hoping some awesome members here could point me in the best direction for the best lighting upgrade since she complains about low light at night while driving. I am great with the technical part of any swap needed such as HID etc so please let me know and show of possible what you feel had been the best yet.

If you want your soon-to-be wife to see at night without any issue, then you should skip the bulb replacement and swap the headlamps with the SX/EX-P dual LED lamps.

I wish I had done it from the very beginning. I went through about three different types of LED bulbs, including a very pricey set of Morimoto, bulbs and while OK, they left much to be desired. It probably didn’t help that I have a Stinger GT1 with factory LED lamps, so I know how good they could be vs. what the Telluride offers with a LED bulb in a halogen projector housing.

The Telluride is my wife’s vehicle. I want her to be as safe and visible on the road as possible. I opted to ditch the LEDs in halogen projectors for the SX lights. In terms of mods, it’s the best $700 I spent. Yes, they’re expensive and perhaps even cost prohibitive for many people, but damnit they’re worth it. It’s a night and day difference between them and the halogen lights and even the Morimoto LEDs.

I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. I just wish I had done it right the first time to save time. One thing I’ve learned is when it comes to myself, I’d prefer to do it cheaply. If it takes time to get it right, I’m fine with that. But when it comes to my wife, it needs to be done right — the first time.

Could someone with an SX disconnect the electrical connector off of one of your headlights and take a photo for me? It’s super simple, just press the release “button” and pull. I’ve attached photos of my EX connector to show the two views I need. Trying to see if the electrical connections are...

Just wanted to put in a good word for Twelvolt. One of my headlight bulbs went dark about 2 weeks ago (I had been using them for about 5 months). I sent an email to Twelvolt and had a new bulb in about a week, no questions asked.

I don’t get it. In the pictures above your post, the halogen lights look brighter and focused exactly on the center of that concrete driveway—as they should be driving down the road. As for the LEDs, they definitely look whiter, but not as bright as the halogens or focused at all. It just looks like a wash of white light to me. Don’t see how it makes driving any safer.

I agree with you and on the basis of the photographs will wait until new vehicle arrives before ordering modifications, and will try to contact GerryA to see if results are still as satisfying as they were in fall of '20.
By the way our ordered car is a match for yours.

Recently installed the Twelvolt headlights in my 2020 S and am quite happy with the lights and also the service from the company. The Youtube video referenced in this thread is invaluable. My install time was about 20 minutes (patience is mandatory here). Additionally, after the install, I noticed that the drivers side light did not have the same beam as the passenger side. I sent a few pictures and chatted with Chelsea. A replacement was sent right away, I just installed it tonight and I'm feeling so much safer driving at night.

I also purchased the backup lights, but haven't installed those yet. I'm not overly concerned about visibility when backing up, but I figured that it could only get better.

Are you still happy with your light modification? Have you done any rural, curvy or hilly traveling since you posted? If so, how did your new lights perform?

I also installed the same lights and its an amazing difference. No tools required. Quite easy to do.

Extremely happy! Keep in mind that the factory lights give a very low bar but the car feels so much safer driving at night and in the rain. I haven't done much hilly driving but I have done some curvy driving with the new lights. Without a doubt, I would not hesitate to recommend the lights from Twelvolt for anyone with the LX or S trim level of the Telluride.

I have a set still in my old headlight assemblies, but low use on hours i will send someone who wants them. I swapped out to the SX headlight assembly, but have not use for the Twelvevolt anymore. They are a huge difference maker though.

That's very generous. How difficult (and expensive) was the installation os the SX lights?

Not too bad at all. The major cost fluctuation comesfrom how much you can get the headlights for. I was all in around $800, thats with the wiring kit sold by one of the members in her. But its is insane, the difference

The entire headlight assembly can be found on ebay. If you are lucky a rear ended telluride at a pick your parts location.

Mine is the SX PRESTIGE so it already has the leds . I haven't looked under the hood yet to examine but was trying to find LED bulbs for when I do have to replace them I believe in keeping us set better be prepared then caught what your pants down

Correct. From what I am seeing on mine and on kiacheapparts.com, it looks as if the assembly is one piece, no bulbs

I was hopeful that the headlights wouldn't be *that* bad, but they are. If IIHS added a 5th rating of "Terrible", that's probably what the headlights would get. LED lamps helped a lot, but in my case (Sealight series 3) there is a small/moderate sized dead spot in the lower center part of the beam. Overall, though, the upgrade was cheap, easy, and very effective.

I wanted to follow up with my experience on the Sealight series 3 LED replacement lamps. I'm about 2 years in, and one of the lamps has "soft-failed" - by that I mean I get a "check headlight" notice in the instrument cluster display but the headlamp still puts out light. I can't say for sure, but it appears to be dimmer than the other lamp (maybe 1/2 output).

I'm going to read through the recent posts and see if there is a consensus on what the best option is 2 years on. Hopefully things have improved and there is a clear choice, but maybe I will end up with some other non-LED alternative.

Aside from full swap, an HID replacement seems best. Just search "HID".

I have been using the following bulbs from Sealight (Xenower X2) in my S Trim for over a year and they work great in the halogen projectors:

You may want to check if your Series 3 bulbs are covered under warranty (3 years?).
I know Sealight's customer service is pretty good and it's worth a shot asking for a replacement bulb.
