Remote start

I was told by my dealer that it was about $5.00 - $6.00 a month. I did add the remote start to my key fob but still waiting on the part to come in. They have to add something to the vehicle.

What did they add? Do you have a part number and /or more information such as costs?

The ebay kit DOES NOT come with a T harness and there are 11 wires to connect + the hood pin. I just shipped it back. It required splicing into the ignition harness which is exactly what I spent extra money to avoid.

You might as well get the flash programmer ($41) and the Evo-One off of Amazon ($90) because there is nothing special about the $228 one on ebay except they put the (wrong) splice connectors on the correct wires and programmed it for you. You should never use splice connectors. Stab and wrap your wires and for ignition wires you should use solder. All other methods have been shown to fail over time. Fortin directly mentions this as well in the installation FAQ.

I've installed enough remote starters to know I don't want to splice an ignition harness with aftermarket gear on a one year old car.

I'm going to try to work with the KIA dealer again and see what factory options they have now that the car has been out a year. I may end up back at the aftermarket solution if there are no other reasonable choices and I'll take the risk to get a reliable modern convenience.

That's not good, ebay ad clearly states it comes with a T-harness. I know it's ebay. I'm going to keep looking.

Can you be specific with which brand & model... there are sooooo many out there and, unfortunately, many of the websites haven't been updated to list the T-Ride yet...

Like in aftermarket remote start, will try to start again for second time and third time, if it fails, you will receive a notification or sounds from the remote/key fob that the car didnt start at all, Any thoughts thanks

The UVO APP tries once and if all conditions are not met or the car fails to start, it will notify you and ask YOU to try again. It will not do it automatically.

I talked to my dealer back and forth yesterday and today, they really did their due diligence. They talked with their Kia rep, talked with other dealers, talked with UVO, talked with their aftermarket partner.

Here's the jist of the conversation:
1. He's had several complaints from Kia owners in general that UVO is unreliable.
2. They're making improvements to the UVO app and it may continue to get better. (I agree with this, it's better than it was a year ago, but still far from reliable).
3. He thinks the $22.50 a month is ridiculous too but has not found any internal Kia program to cover the cost for mad current or future owners.
4. There is NO OEM factory remote fob or kit in NA. Anybody selling you one is full of it.
5. There are a few aftermarket kits for this vehicle and the company his dealer partners with is $450 installed with an extended range key fob button. They have been using them for a decade and the amount of returns to their dealer is minimal.

I lease and have about 2 years left. So I can either:
1. Hack the CAN like I did on my last GM car to issue the remote start commands (hardest option and I'm feeling lazy)
2. Do it myself for ~$140 and risk my dealer warranty (which I am unwilling to do right now with the kits being so young for this car).
3. Dish out $450 for an aftermarket kit fully installed and completely forgo the app.
4. Get the aftermarket install AND the aftermarket app for $650 + $6 a month.
5. Just subscribe to UVO for two years for $500...


I'm leaning this way: I have two months until UVO starts charging me. IF UVO becomes mostly reliable, I will pay for it and we'll see what I do on the next one because I am definitely going to get another Telluride.

If you're definitely going to get another Telluride, why wouldn't you just add the aftermarket kit and then buy your Telluride as soon as possible (before or at end of lease?) Someone else installed the Fortin kit a long time ago and has been happy with it (on forum). Unless you're using the car for business purposes and writing off a portion of that lease expense. The money factor is terrible...

I'm having the Fortin kit installed next week by an authorized installer. $450 is the price but since I'm keeping the Telluride for a while I don't mind spending the money. Figure in 2 years it will pay for itself since I don't have to pay for UVO subscription.

I wanted the Telluride and will never ever buy a first model year car. I have my issues with the Telluride but it's by far the top of its pack. We'll see in 2022.

I don't know for other models but as written on their website, the 2020 Kia Telluride comes with standard Remote Start through the UVO telematics system. UVO is a subscription-free OEM infotainment and telematics service provided by Kia on select vehicles.
