• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The Ultimate Telluride Windshield Chip/Cracking Discussion

Safe lite is a major company that also manufactures glass. they may be giving you supposed Oem specs but not Oem glass

I used Safelite and they used non OEM glass. I’m not sure why Kia OEM glass is so magical. Especially since it apparently cracks so easily.

My replacement was $400. Acoustic glass, all that. The calibration for the sensors is being done on Friday at a Kia dealership. It costs $125.
These costs are covered under my insurance and will not raise my rates.
Not sure why there is all the drama in this thread about the repair.

I had a rock hit the windshield pretty hard this weekend on the highway and much to my surprise, not even a chip.. I breathed a huge sigh of relief.

I took my Telluride into KIA dealership to have my windshield calibrated and was told that calibration is not neccessary because the windshields are "plug and play". Any thoughts? I'm feeling a loss of confidence in this KIA dealership as is and if I'm being given false information from their own maintenance shop, I am definitely going to a different one to have my Telluride serviced.

Just a thought on the calibration...we’ve replaced 2 windshields and no camera calibration was needed. There are several posts on this subject. Both of the installers I had said the same thing which was: if there is no damage to the windshield near the camera, no recalibration is needed. The camera sits in a clip/cradle and since there is only one way to correctly install the camera, it will point the exact same way if did originally. There has also been some talk about the SXP models with the HUD needing camera recalibration REGARDLESS where the break/crack is in the windshield but since I have the ‘lowly’ S model, can’t confirm or deny this. I personally think the recalibration is a dealer rip off.

I got with parts today. We show 3 different types of KIA glass. 2 are available and 1 is not. Only Vin tells me what's for what.

I’ll ask my dealership about it tomorrow. I’m scheduled for a oil change and recalibration.

Hello,

I came across another discussion on social media where there’s a growing number of complaints regarding chipped and cracked windshields on going in the Telluride. It’s seems the sound absorbing acoustic glass in the EX and SX models may be defective. So the question I’m asking Is:

1- Has anyone had any issues with their windshield being chipped or cracked?

2- Has it been more than once a chip or crack has taken place?

3- Does the warranty cover the windshield if it’s chip or crack?

4- Did anyone contact Kia or file a complaint and if so what was the outcome?

5- Does Kia know if there is a known defect in the windshield?

I have seen the reports from people. My SXP hasn't been effected with this thus far. I even took a pretty hard hit from a rock thrown up from the car in front of me one day with no ill effects.

No defects reported so far - this can be normal with acoustic glass - it's laminated and just not as resistant to cracking after impact. Manufacturers like them because they are lighter than older traditional windshields. The issue is that they may need to be replaced more often.

If you are concerned, lower your deductible or have a glass coverage policy added to insurance. We have SX P, no issues but only 1300 miles. I did lower my deductible just in case. Will inquire about glass replacement with insurance company.

It won't break in your face or allow objects to penetrate, so it's still safe. But, a major inconvenience to replace windshields.

It is pretty much standard across the board for sound reducing windshield. Kia, Subaru, Toyota, buick, same problem with the same windowshield.

I will call USAA today and ask about it to make sure it’s included.

Thanks So Much

If they send this letter to everyone, then it's called a RECALL.

Seatbelt, windshield, tellyvibe, markups, delays, CR#9 ranking... oh boy, it's starting to ADD UP!

That's a great response to the issue. I'll be interested to see how they change things to make it not happen at the frequency it seems to be occurring.

Today received a letter from Kia, stating that they are aware of chips and cracks happening in Telluride windshields. It says that replacement s will be covered and cars will be provided while the replacement is made. Also, included a form to recover any prior replacement of windshields which have been paid for by owners! I guess it pays to complain.
