What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

People willing to pay over MSRP is also the problem. This makes it easier for dealers to justify their practices. We just like the housing market crash in 2009. The value will drop like a rock.

I actually don't mind paying over MSRP as it seems that Kia underpriced this vehicle in hindsight. I just hate the inconsistency in strategies by the various dealers the bait and switch tactics that they try to employ through their websites and over the phone. It puts a big time and effort tax on the process and I think it hurts the Kia brand overall. It basically makes this forum valuable.
I don't think they underpriced the vehicle. We are in crazy times with parts shortages. The fact that they cannot manufacture enough vehicles is what is driving up the price- not that they priced it too low. Same goes with EVERY popular vehicle in this market. The markups over MSRP are bullshit, and Kia should put a stop to it like Ford and GM are trying to do with their dealers.

Don't use that as an excuse to justify paying over MSRP by these awful dealers.
I also disagree - an SX AWD Telluride with popular options (Nightfall, Prestige etc.) is $50K+ @ MSRP. If they priced it higher (i.e. if the price was $60K MSRP), I wouldn't even be considering it.

Actually Ford and the CEO doesn't care. They only want custom orders to stay at the agreed price at order time and not be hit with extra markups. Once a customer abandons an order the dealer can mark it up $20K (i.e Broncos). Ford also does not care about markups on dealer orders either (but they limit the number of these as customer orders take priority).

What Kia, Hyundai, and Toyota need is an ordering system. If you can wait for your order... then you pay MSRP. If you can't wait.. you find used or a car on the lot (with markup).

You guys are just describing supply and demand. The fact is that the actual market clearing price is above MSRP for this vehicle. If a dealer charges MSRP, they'll be gone in seconds. If they charge $10K over, they'll have some inventory sitting around.

As a consumer, would you rather go shopping and see empty shelves or higher prices? That is basically the 2 choices available here.

Thanks - yeah the market is nuts right now. I ordered from Muncie while they were still honoring the "Costco" pricing which was below MSRP. However, the wait will be 10-12 months from when I ordered. There's no way I would pay any type of markup. I agree that even MSRP doesn't sound right!
I just ordered one for MSRP.. I felt lucky because any other dealer I talked to was adding on at least 7k markup even for orders…I can’t believe you found a dealer willing to work wit Costco pricing! What was the Costco pricing discount you were able to get?

?
Were you able to get them to drop the carpet floor mats? I have one on order but they said the carpet floor mats were part of their dealer package. Any other tips or advice for dealing with Moritz? Jim has been super helpful to this point.

Thanks
Did you figure this out? I also wanted them to drop the mats…. Going to order rubber ones from amazon. But they told me they are forced to order them with any car.

Does anyone know if any of the CA dealerships will allow you to build on website at MSRP without markups, such as some of the dealerships websites in other states?
Premier Kia in Lufkin, TX Does MSRP orders. I ordered mine last week but they said 6 months estimated, but hoping for sooner because the orders are starting to pick up.

Does anyone have any Insight on ordering from a smaller dealer with less than 200 total allocated tellurides vs one with over 600 total allocated tellurides? Does a smaller dealer mean an order will take longer?

Well, it depends on how many people they have currently on their waitlist so it could be faster with a smaller dealer if proportionately they have less on their waitlist. One thing that I experienced is that with a larger volume dealership and their list, it seems like more people are canceling their order due to them finding a Telluride at another dealership or just going with a different vehicle all together. So with a high volume dealership you may have an opportunity to grab another one someone backed out of if you follow up with your salesperson. That's if you are somewhat flexible with colors/options. Of course, YMMV

Great perspective! Thanks. On Failcat It looks like the Kia I ordered from doesn’t have any orders in April so I am hoping that means not many people have ordered from them…

I test drove one today (EX model), they had 4 at the dealership I went to. They didnt seem to know of any promotions, I didnt feel like playing that game and said like me know when you can take 5-6k of the sticker. Dont think Ill be getting a call anytime soo.
I haven't found a dealer yet that doesn't charge a "shortage" charge. An extra few grand because they're hard to find!

I had this exact question a few weeks ago. I was comparing 3 dealerships on failcat looking to see how many orders they get in each month. I decided not to go with the small dealership for fear it would take forever to get.

I am starting to feel that way. The dealer I went with hasn’t added any vin numbers since first week of April.

What dealer did you end up going with?

Jim Butler Kia in Chesterfield,MO. Rodger Harman is my sales associate. I can give you his number if you want it. I emailed him almost daily with questions and he’s answered everything I’ve asked. The other larger dealership I was considering that is closer to me wouldn’t answer my questions and I haven’t heard from the person I texted in a week.

You are most likely going to get a 2023. Black Copper being dropped. You will have to pick a new color.

How can you know that?? The full list of the trim levels hasn’t even been released yet as far as I can tell.

I recently found a dealer willing to take my build order at MSRP. They asked for $1000 non-refundable deposit which is fine by me. But all they gave me is a screenshot of their ordering system showing my trim at MSRP, and then asked me to initial this so called order sheet, nothing else. I am afraid of any possible bait and switch tactics from the dealer since no others terms were stated on this order sheet. Is this normal? Or I should ask the dealer to prepare an actual sale contract?

I’m sure if you post the name of the dealer, you’ll get a lot of input on whether they’re legit or not.

My dealer did this all over the phone and email. I picked out what I wanted and they sent me the kfos order breakdown and I put down a $500 refundable deposit. Then they sent me a receipt. I am surprised they are making you do a non refundable because they can easily sell it over MSRP if you didn't need it.

Sure, my dealer is Kia of East Syracuse.
