2023 Kia Telluride Discussion

I’m probably in the minority but I never liked the amber headlights for a few reasons. It think dual purposing then as turn signals seemed odd and by having them on all the time they take away from making the turn signal standout which is what you need to warn people. Plus the amber contrasts what your eyes will adjust to with the whiter light. It makes sense to me that they changed the DRLs to match the headlight purely for safety reasons.

Okay the digital key isn't as cool as I thought. You still need to take your phone out of your pocket to unlock the door but at least you don't have to carry your key fob with you. I was hoping it was more like the tesla where you can just walk up to the car and it unlocks and locks when you walk away. I can live w/o the rearview mirror digital display. Wifi hotspot I already have with my wireless AA Carplay box. Sucks on the amber lights going away. Larger digital display for infotainment screen is probably the feature I'm most jealous about. I'll be checking it out more when my brother in law gets one but I won't be jealous. I'm actually trying to get them to change to the palisade. That one seems to be the better looking of the 2023s.

There have been lots of vehicles over the years that used the amber turn signals as running lights. Outside of Kia, I can only think of the Raptor having amber running lights right now. Some of the new GMC stuff would look awesome with full time amber running lights. The Telluride looked so different, now it's going to blend in with everything else on the road.

Cars.com is claiming the X-Line and X-Pro are replacing NF. I didn't hear that in the presentation, anyone else seeing that somewhere other than Cars.com?

Replying to myself here. So, NF is gone for 2023. They claim X-Line and X-Pro replace NF but they list the Xs at new trims. NF was a package, not a trim. Soo..... Is there LX, S, EX, and SX with X-Line/X-Pro packages? Or are there 6 trim levels now?

While the Palisade gets the "most improved" award, it's still not the better looking vehicle on the outside. That new grill extends way too far down and is looking over-grilled (a la Lexus). It's just too much. And I still hate the post-C-pillar windows on the Palisade- they make the vehicle look like a Ford Explorer from the side.

However, I think I prefer the Palisade's interior, just a bit. Better paneling and seats. Seriously, I'm hoping the new stitching on the Telluride seats looks better in person. It looks way too busy (almost like wrinkles) in the photos.

I acknowledge some but I would not agree lots. The vast majority reserve the amber for turning or fog lights. I would argue the standard is white for DRLs. While they might look cool the functional purpose is not to stand out more while driving, it’s more important to stand out when turning.

So NF is definitely gone? i hope it doesn't take too long to get some of these answers, my in-limbo order for a 2022 that'll probably transition to a 2023 is a bit more up in the air than I expected now.
anyone know if the new colors mean discontinuation of some existing colors?

15-20 years ago many domestic automakers used amber running lights. I think most of if not the entire Oldsmobile line had them at one point. Dodge used them a lot, GM used them a bit outside of Olds.

Hmm...I'm not sure I get what you're saying. DRL's were initially introduced so that you stand out to other drivers. I think having them amber definitely serves that purpose. Especially in a sea of cars that use white DRLs. Are you arguing that it makes you TOO noticeable? I know some folks don't like the color. An option I think would be cool would be a customization of the DRL colors. Legal colors of course but I think that might be limited to only white and amber. (darn)

I agree. I owned a Olds with one. But I think they went away for a reason.

Huge misstep if that’s the case. Hope my order gets picked up before the ‘23 starts. So far, nothing compelling enough to give up Nightfall.

According to Kia, yes.

"The new Telluride introduces two new trim levels – X-Line and X-Pro – for Kia owners who choose to go off the beaten path every so often. Both all-wheel drive models offer a roster of exclusive upgrades and enhancements over other Telluride trims. As seen below, the X-Pro model builds off the X-Line model. Furthermore, the X-Line model replaces the former Telluride Nightfall Edition."

I will die inside if they remove Wolf Grey for those new colors.

Did they say for sure no wireless carplay/AA? I find it hard to believe that's the case since they added wifi hotspot.

DRLs in white allow you to get noticed making the turn signal separate from the DRLs and a different color make it more noticeable that you are turning. As the driver your eyes adjust differently to the color, so white headlights on with amber DRLs they do not complement each other because your eyes can’t adjust as quickly in the foreground.

Finally a blue. RIP amber running lights.

I was going to say the same thing. The color on the stage is beautiful. I am getting the 2022 in Gravity Gray bc it looks more of a blue sparkle in the sun. I wonder if this one is more a blue gloss like the Wolf Gray without the glitter effect.

It will be interesting to see WG with the changes. That color erases the body lines on this vehicle. Perhaps the changes will help.
