Headlight Led Upgrade

@Nas4atu10 please do take some night pictures after installation.
I’ll do my best, but it might be this weekend before I’m able to as I have a 2 year old with a 7PM bedtime, lol, makes it hard to get out at night during the week!

Just to chime in. I have upgraded mine with diode dynamics and they're great, imo

Which Twelvolt LEDs are you guys replacing your halogens with by the way? Several different models on their website, not sure which way to go!
Call Twelvolt. They know the Telly well. My lights are great. 10 min installation.

I figured it out, they’re arriving tomorrow actually as well! Going to attempt the installation sometime this week, probably this weekend. Just hoping my wide-bodied hands/arms can navigate the installation!

Lance I have a question.
I installed my twelvolt lights but for some reason they don’t look like yours. Is there a certain position they need to be before installing?
It’s been a while since I installed them but yeah you definitely what either facing down or up on the position. Sorry I can’t remember which way it was I don’t want to tell you it’s down and be wrong. Let me go back 6 months ago on here and see what I said lol.

[/So the ones I got from Twelvolt have two big led chips . 180 degree straight down .

any tips would be appreciated before I install my Twelvolts tomorrow! Is I remember right, the wiring in the back should be in the ‘6 o’clock’ position when fully installed, I’m guessing that lines it all up correctly?

So one chip faces straight down, the other straight up then?

With the wiring at 6 o’clock that puts the wedge with the led chips UP. The locking collar does not secure any other way. If someone got it in facing down, I can’t see how it would install properly. It’s only a slight less than quarter turn to lock. So offset the wire from 6 push and turn. You can also pay attention to the tabs on the collars of the halogens when you remove them. My biggest suggestion is wait a while since driving so the Halogens can cool down. They take a while to cool and can get very hot.

Also start with the driver side near the battery. There is more space to work with on the driver side. The passenger side has the reservoir to struggle with getting your hand in. It all fits when done. The pigtail tucks nicely into the housing so the cover over the heatsink can go back on without any mods.

Thanks for the advice!! I’m hoping I don’t have to switch the o-rings or anything, but we shall see. I think I got some Vaseline somewhere in the house that I can use to help glide them into the notches. So no need to remove that white silicon packet from the dust cover then?

@Twelvolt LED headlights installed!! As someone who is a complete novice at this stuff, that was pretty painless. No need to even change the o-rings or even lube them up. As previously stated by @NCTelly and others, the driver’s side is MUCH easier just due to the amount of room you have compared to the passenger’s side. But honestly, the passenger’s side installation went a smidge quicker since I now knew what to do, it’s just my hands got a little beat up and said a few cuss words trying to get that bulb out. I kept the desiccant packets in the dust cover, hopefully that doesn’t create a heat issue or anything down the road. The beam pattern looks correct, I made sure to have the wiring pointing in the 6 position after locking in, although when I installed the passenger’s side, I wasn’t 100% sure I got it in right, but the light didn’t wiggle or pull out, so I am fairly confident it locked in correctly. I’ll definitely try and post some pics of the lights at night time sometime soon! I also changed out the license plate lights with LEDs as well. I’m not 100% sure I’ll be doing the other lights in that Lasfit Telluride YouTube video yet. If I do, I’ll probably just do the front turn signals and forget about the reverse lights, not sure I want to pull paneling apart and such.

I’m curious if you think swapping the license plate bulbs to LEDs improves the backup camera at night.

I’ll let you know what I think, but I won’t have it to compare to the halogen lights, as I didn’t get to drive it at night yet, lol.
