What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

Yes, please read my long post in detail and put in your numbers.

But, here's some quick math:

475x36 = $17,100
+ $3,500 down
= $20,600 (Total of payments)

So, you're paying $20,600 to rent the vehicle for 3 years. Residual is probably around 0.6 - based on that MSRP that would be $21,675.

Add the two - $42,275. That would be close to the total you would pay if you bought the car at the end of the lease. So, about $6100 added to MSRP in taxes, fees and interest. Is it a good deal? I don't think so. But, you need money factor and residual they are using.

At one point Kia did have some specials on the S leases which weren't too bad. But, with their low APR finance rates and the rate with rebate, their purchase options are much more attractive.
I will definitely ask about the residual. I think it’s 63, but I may be wrong. The tier one money factor is 4.176. I am in the state of Texas. I’ll try out those numbers in your post and see what I come up with. I just don’t know how to negotiate a lease. In my mind, I should be able to get a $40,000 EX with minimal money down at around $400/month for 36 months.🤷‍♀️ But again, not sure how to negotiate that. Thank you for your assistance.

Sure, it's tough because nearly everything in a lease is negotiable. In Texas, lessees get shafted because they have to pay tax on entire purchase price. Such a shame. Do you want an EX or an S?

If you break out numbers into those three components I mentioned it will be easier to see everything up front. Most Kia leases I've seen are currently tilted to favor KMF and the dealer. They really sock it to the borrower.

I really want an EX, but will be ok with the S. I don’t want my payments over $500/month. Not that I can’t afford anything over, this is just the number my husband and I came up with.

Don’t lease! Save for 6 months or more for a down payment and then purchase it. Think about how much better you’ll feel driving around the car of your dreams and it’s not a financial burden.

Truth!

This is true! I have a down payment saved up right now. I just don’t want a $600-$800 car note for the next 4-5 years.

Just put a deposit down on a 2021 SX nightfall edition with tow in gravity gray. Already have the VIN and a tentative delivery date at the end of July. I was able to "negotiate" and got it for $500 under MSRP after they told me initially that they would not budge off of MSRP. While $500 isn't huge I consider it a big win considering many other people's experience. I'm only having to wait 3 weeks and paying below MSRP plus whatever incentives hit for July.

Why would you already have a VIN number???

Because it's already on the line in production and is close to being shipped.
Nice! Where did you get it from? I reached out to my local Kia dealer (Northeast Kia in White Plains) who was looking at $6k over MSRP for a 2021 SX nightfall...

Hi all, 1st post of the Forum so be gentle.

I "ordered" a 2020 Telluride (SX w Prestige in Gravity/Black) in March from a Dealership just outside of Atlanta. I made the mistake of not diving into the price at the time of the order. (I say "order" because I am realizing that I was probably just placed in the dealer's queue for their allocation)

My delivery date is around 7/18 and the Telluride has been changed to a 2021.

The total price is $51,669. The dealer is tacking $3745 on top of MSRP. $2000 of that is just a premium for a Telluride and a $1745 Addendum that the dealer places on all cars they sell. The sales rep is "trying" to knock off the $2000 premium which could bring the price down to $49,669.

Thoughts? Should I walk away from this, try a different dealer, and wait again?

Thank you in advance for any insight.

Depends on when you want it. If you walk, they could probably sell it for +$5k over MSRP or higher. If you can still negotiate the price and get that $2k knocked off, that would be good. If you walk away, and order from a different dealer at a lower price, your wait time could be anywhere from 6-12 months. Else, you'd have to hunt using VIN lookup tool to find an unsold allocation... also time consuming.

Less than $2k over MSRP would be a good target... so if they cut the addendum charge and just left add ons, then that's not too bad.

Many people have paid markups - even on the forum - up to +$10k for Prestige. So, as long as you are happy with the price, make the purchase. They do have a low APR option. Just don't lease with those markups - you'll get hosed.

I agree! With a 7/18 ETA the VIN should be listed on Failcat.com and in transport to dealer. If so JUMP!

A year or more wait? Even at the lower production rates from last year - very few people were waiting a year or more. It seems more realistic to have a 6-8 month wait if he shopped around at various dealerships.

Possibly. Yes, it depends on the dealer. But, some particular dealers that price the lowest, are also having the longest waits because their allocations aren't sufficient. Especially for Prestige. Even Classic Kia Carrollton is imposing $3k markups - although I don't know if that applies to orders. I still think he should try to negotiate on price and take that one. Sounds like price wasn't agreed upon at time of order.

Btw, @Natelee53, if you do decide to walk and want some dealers to potentially order from (and can wait 6-8 months), many members have recommendations.

@jw_tx21 Thank you for the feedback and recommendations. As you noted, I did not negotiate the price at the time of order. Shame on me. If the dealership will strike the $2000 premium then I think I will go ahead with the sale.
