Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

Hey Guys, all I'm doing is sharing my frustration here and elsewhere, I don't expect results. I'm probably not entitled to my money back on a legal basis, but I never backed out of the deal, I just said if they can sell it then go for it. It seems reasonable that they lost nothing on this deal. Heck, they may have even sold it for more than they were selling it to me for. As a side note, they said the black interior on an SXP comes with the charcoal headliner. I've since learned on this site that it doesn't, it's the light gray. I pointed that out to them and they sent me a video of the car and are saying that the light gray IS Charcoal. Anyways, I told them I would share my side of the story on every review site I could. I tried to be detailed and honest with my statement and to not embellish anything. No one is every 100% correct in a situation. But I will not recommend this dealership, and when I do get my SXP, maybe in a couple of months, it will not be from this dealership.

Thanks for sharing. You can ask if they could apply your deposit to another vehicle purchase when you are ready. By saying "go ahead and sell it to someone else" you did back out of the deal. SXPs sell in hours if not minutes when available.

Now, you have the info for next time! Ask a sales manager to sign off on the deposit being refundable in certain circumstances.

And, it's a bit confusing. Window stickers say "Black" interior which can come with Black Nappa leather or with Dune Brown leather (for SXPs). In the former case, the headliner is light grey. In the latter case, it is dark grey/black. So, technically a "black" listed interior could come with either headliner.

I wanted to share my poor experience with Classic Kia of Carrollton, TX

On Apr 8, I put down a deposit on a Telluride, they already had the vin# and it was being delivered no later than April 15. April 15 comes, and the wrong cars were shipped to them. They said they would have it no later than 22nd guaranteed. Apr 22nd comes and goes, now due to covid all shipments are being delayed, the car is built but they can’t find someone to deliver it. On May 1st, they said they received the invoice for the car and that means it will be here soon (not sure why they guaranteed it 2-weeks earlier without having the invoice). I tell them I’m out of town for a week starting the following Wednesday. They said they hope to have it by Tuesday. Tuesday morning, I find out my income is dropping $700/mo due to Covid. I express my desire to postpone my purchase. They say they can defer payments for 45-days. I tell them ok, when the car comes in, I’ll come look at it. Of course, it comes in once I’m out of town. They ask if I still want it, I said they can open it up for sale and if it’s still there Monday or Tuesday I’ll come look at it. Well, congratulations for them they sold I within an hour. I was still leaning towards buying the car with the deferred payment, but I figure it’s a win-win and everyone would be happy. Well, I’m not happy. They won’t refund my $500 deposit. Nothing was said about me losing my deposit if they sell it to someone else. I understand if I walked away from the deal completely, they would keep my deposit. But I couldn’t buy the car before Monday no matter what, and they sold it in an hour. I’m very disappointed in the customer service at Classic Kia of Carrolton. At some point soon, I will be buying this car, but it won’t be at this dealership. Anyone company this petty over $500, where they lost nothing, is not a company I would recommended doing business with. They say they held up their end of the bargain, but I passed on an opportunity to buy this car elsewhere because of their 'guarantee'.
If you didn't sign anything in writing saying your deposit was non-refundable then tell them you want your money back or you're calling the better business bureau

Minus incentives and rebates. Sorry about your income and hope all goes well. God Bless

I’ve been shopping for an SX w/P for about a week now and Jim Ellis Kia of Kennesaw said they may have one inbound. I had to visit the VW dealer next door, so I said what the heck and told them I’d stop by.
One employee followed me around when I arrived, presumably since we had said hello to one time prior as we were window shopping. Then I sat down with Natasha, one of the managers. She had a $48k SX worked up with ~$1500 in market adjustment on the paperwork. I figured I would give her a minute to give the pitch... then as she’s going over the numbers she excuses herself and comes back with the same paper and $5k of market adjustment. I thanked her for time and said I was no longer interested. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I understand supply and demand but this just rubbed me the wrong way. Oh well, I’ll buy from someone else.
They do it with everyone. and tack on that $5k package as "gift" 😂🤣🤣

Avoid Sonskia in McDonough GA.
SXP moss green with dune brown with no addons for 65k.
Lol, hard pass. 14k markup is ethically wrong and seems like dealerships like this really don't care.20200518_220323.webp

My bad experiences. dealer 1: lured me in and then told me all the SX and EX models are sold. dealer number 2: made an appointment to see a certain salesman 2 times and he blew me off both times as if he did not want to talk. dealer 3: asked 10,000 over MSRP for SX with tow package. I told him if price gouging was illegal in car sales, you would be arrested. I went to my personal independent car broker and bought an EX with all the extras I want for 1000 below MSRP. Was also given the opportunity to buy that same SX they wanted 10K over thru my broker for MSRP.

Barnett KIA in White Bear Lake, MN

This dealer wants a nonrefundable $2000 deposit on incoming Tellurides. They also require that you buy the $599. Protection package I don’t like to be forced to purchase anything.

Car Pros Kia of Glendale. They’re marking their Tellurides up by at least 3k. They are also extremely rude and copped an attitude when I told them I wouldn’t be paying over MSRP. Horrible dealership with horrible people running it. These bad dealerships are turning a win for KIA into a major loss.

I test drove a car there and then when I said I wanted to order they told me you can’t order and then when I said sticker they said nobody would sell for sticker. They weren’t rude but it was clear they weren’t a dealership I wanted to deal with.

They get rude once you start to call them on their BS. Glad to hear you didn’t fall for their gimmicks either.

Glad to hear you didn’t fall for their gimmick. They weren’t rude to me initially, but when I pressed them about their absurd markups, that’s when they started getting the attitude. I even leased a Kia from them, how’s that for customer loyalty?

Funny I was looking at a Stinger to replace my K900. I have always liked the Telluride. After trying the Stinger the lack of room made me not like it. I wanted something more spacious and comfortable. This was in early April. They had a White SX with tow package on the lot. They were slow that day and really wanted to move cars. I told them that the only car I would consider was the Telly. They gave me a great trade in value for K900 and I paid a little more than MSRP. Basically came out to a wash and I saved another 1K on taxes. After reading all of these experiences I think I did okay on my deal.

Just got off the phone with Ourisman Kia in Chantilly, VA (near the Dulles Airport outside Washington DC): Ourisman Chantilly Kia: New & Used Kia Dealer in Chantilly, VA | Serving Fairfax The Kia Telluride SXP (any color) was quoted at $59,971, including a market adjustment (she didn't specify how much), an "ownershield" package that included coverage of the interior for 5 yrs, unlimited miles, an appearance package (tinted windows); and then taxes, title and fees were on top of the $59K. Floored. I shouldn't have been, I didn't look at this thread for Ourisman, but this is apparently up their alley. The Sales rep was very kind and still took my email with a note that when prices come down to MSRP to contact me. I had a very thorough discussion with her about how despite my knowledge that dealers were marking up the Telluride, it was short sighted. She claimed Ourisman was family owned and into building relationships, to which I responded that this money grab of a markup (though it's technically demand driven) is the opposite of a family-owned, relationship-building business. I asked her to pass to the manager (we'll see if that happens, she said my sentiments were certainly not the first time she's heard it) that with all the research and excitement I had about the Telluride, the markup was NOT the way to build a customer relationship. My other cars I've had over a decade; I've certainly spent $10K+ over the years on maintenance and then repeat brand loyalty - but a dealer markup like that leaves a stain, and it tells me that the one-time "market adjustment" is their prime focus, not 10-15 years of maintenance income and repeat business. That bad taste is something I intend to be vocal about to other customers, and on forums like this. She acknowledged the reality and remained very polite, which is sad, because her dealership is staining her wonderful customer service. It's too bad, their location, size, and convenience was something I was looking forward to as a new customer. Now I doubt I'll ever consider or recommend them to anyone I know.

What/who do you mean by “independent broker”?

I would avoid Rick Case Kia in Gwinnett County, Ga.
They have a '21 coming in some time this week and are selling for $7,500 above market. It's fully loaded in my eyes (SX-P AWD, towing, nightfall) but no thanks....

Greenway Kia of Rivergate in Nashville, TN just tried to get me to buy one with a 10K market adjusted price. Told him for 58k I'll go buy a BMW
