Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

Had a bad experience with RK Kia in Vineland, NJ.

I had been speaking to a salesperson (Danielle) via email and text message over the last month. I had explained I was looking for a 2020 Telluride SX-P which they did not have in stock. They were not yet taking custom orders which I understood. She assured me multiple times that they were one of the few dealerships in NJ selling Tellurides at MSRP. They finally get a 2020 SX-P and again I asked about whether it is being sold for MSRP. She said it was. So I drove about an hour and half to the dealership to close the deal. She was not there, so I spoke to a different salesman (I forget his name). He comes back and tells me that the Tellurides are going for a premium with a $3k markup. I asked to speak to the manager as I had been assured that they were selling at MSRP. The manager came over and said it's their last SX and they're selling it at a $2500 markup...so basically he made it seem like he was doing me a favor by coming down $500. I told him that I specifically came to that dealership because I was assured multiple times that they were selling at MSRP. I even showed him a text from Danielle, literally from the day before, mentioning that. He basically brushed it off and said they're not budging on price. So I walked. Very poor customer service.

They are evil people because I dealt with them in July ,when I was looking for telluride. They told me in their lot was a lx , I ask them if I can place a deposit on it . She said no , that she will hold the keys .. So on my way to go an purchase the vehicle , my wife said call them to make sure , we don't want to drive and they sell it on us . So I did she did not answer , so I call the main line . The manager said it just sold !!!I was passed..

Howdy,
OK, after reading and watching what is going on all over the country with the Kia Telluride dealer pricing is kinda funny.
I have been watching and waiting for a while. OK, we call a KIA dealer in Northern Virginia, they said they were rolling off 2 new SX with Prestige package Tellurides. One dark moss, gray nappa interior, and a evelasting silver, black nappa interior.
Said they were just rolling off the truck, and not sold yet. OK, We said we would be right over. It really did just roll off the truck, still all plastic wrapped inside, and not even checked into the dealership yet.

BUT,

2020 Telluride AWD SX w/Prestige, towing, Dark Moss, Gray Nappa Leather
sticker MSRP $46,495.00
inland freight $1045.00
total $47,540.00
Offered to me at $57,540.00
Said no, walked out.
Noticed a new for sale sign next to the sticker, saying $59,750 PLUS title, taxes, tags, proc fees
All kinds of add ons, fees and a market adj. +$
Hope they choke on it.
Ourisman Kia, Chantilly, VA

More than 10k over MSRP? I thought some post up here about that going on was funny. I guess I am a little puzzled about that.

If anyone is wanting to pay $12k or more for it, they have a few there.
I was received a quote from Ourisman today for a 2021 EX AWD Premium/Nightfall/Towing - $59,095! They are out of their minds, $14K markup.

That's the highest I have heard of.

Part of the huge appeal (for me) of the Telluride is the value compared to others in the segment. The features, quality materials, warranty, looks....it's tops in the class in so many areas. That value (again, for me) is mostly lost when paying well above at MSRP. I am talking the $5-10K or more that I see floating around....and the $14K above!?!? Yikes! You are now in to another market segment altogether. And what happens in the unfortunate case of an accident or total loss on the vehicle? Not only will you be fighting the insurance companies against the normal depreciation for a new vehicle but you stand to lose a good chunk of that extra cash vs what you paid.

We love the Telluride and it will be a perfect fit for us, but I will gladly wait a few months+ for an SX-P at MSRP vs paying $55K or more. If I were going to pay $55K+ I would move on to another vehicle. I get that the market will determine purchase price and that varies throughout the country. I just hate to see anyone put themselves in a situation financially if it can (or should) be avoided. I hope all the people paying the huge markups are those that can handle the hit.

I feel the same as far as the appeal of the Telluride. I really like it and thankfully I can wait a while to see what happens with these markups before I have to select an alternate vehicle. And when I was quoted that $59065, (I misstated earlier by$30 LOL) for the EX I immediately informed the sales rep that the mark up was too much and that the vehicle was not 60k valuable to me. Hell, I can get a BMW X5, my dream car, for that.

Calling out Kia of East Syracuse...called them on Friday about an incoming vehicle, was assured it's not a sold order. I had to forward them the VIN sticker from Failcat.

Working the deal all day...charged my CC the 1k deposit...did my credit check...hopefully just a soft credit check...(@StephenCantrelle confirmed it was def a hard credit check...ugh)

Went quiet - few hours later, calls me saying it was actually a sold order since March...

Was this a Nightfall package?

No such thing as soft credit check in car business.. I would be livid.. you are right if they took deposit and did credit check someone higher up got involved and sold from under you..

Damn.. sorry brother.. shake it off.. at least you know failcat has potential

Thank you brother - will do.

Found another SX-P closer...3k Markup...will think about it. Less chance of a 3k markup vehicle disappearing from under me by the "owner"

I'd go all stalker on them. Track the VIN and see if it goes on their site with a markup. Then report their asses to BBB and any other organization keeping tabs on businesses. Screw em. That credit pull is there for two years. Might as well make em earn it at your expense!! GL with the next one

Already google reviewed them...and blasted them here....definitely next stop is BBB.

I asked him to write in email my 1k is being refunded and guess what he's completely quiet...

@StephenCantrelle can you look up if this VIN has STOP-SELL next to it or if it's an actual sold order?

Vin does have a persons name attached to it

Roger that.

Update to my bad dealer experience. If you want to buy a car from here have them quadruple check if it's sold before doing anything...

Oh good lord. I'm working with Napleton. Scared now.
oh wow, I am also looking to go into Napleton Elgin to look at a Telluride...

That stinks. Then they wonder why they have a bad rep. I fear that I am in the same boat with a FL dealership. Worked all day yesterday and now being ghosted. We'll see if tomorrow brings better news.
