Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

($250 below MRSP)

I bought mine at Ray Skillman Shadeland in Indianapolis and paid $600 to have it shipped to me. I paid MSRP.

Just look at the good dealers thread.
I'm in Georgia. Every dealership so far here has had anywhere from $5K to $13K in markup. I'm literally searching the entire US to find what I want at MSRP trying to avoid having to order and wait.

I will jump on a plane and drive back home across the country if I have to. :)

Just got off the phone with Ourisman Chantilly Kia in VA....$13K "Market Adjustment Package" for SXP Nightfall.....

Utterly Ridiculous....
Not sure why you would bother with them or any other DMV dealerships. Just search some of the dealership names on this forum. Ourisman quoted me $8k over MSRP to order a Telly. Jackasses. I ordered mine for $1k under MSRP from Kia of Muncie.

Avoid Destination Kia in Albany.
I went in on Thursday to buy. Told them what I wanted and they had a ~2k markup. After trying to negotiate they wouldn’t budge. I gave up haggling and accepted the deal. Here is where the fun began:
They wouldn’t take my check because it was out of state. (I live in NJ and the dealer is 2 hours away in Albany NY) so I have them $800 in cash and told them I would give them the balance when I pick up the car. They told me to come back tonight and the car would be ready. On the way home, I moved things around so I had childcare available. I called them and said I would be there at 6:30. They said “no.. no one will be here to sign the paperwork”. After arguing again, I gave up. My wife took the day off Friday to drive me up there. All the paperwork and keys were for the black (not black copper as promised). She apologized for the mix up- they don’t have any black coppers. There was a lot of back and forth between me, my wife, the salesperson, the manager and again, I gave up and accepted. I signed the papers, gave them the balance and left. Now they are calling, texting, harassing me telling me I didn’t give them balance. They are threatening me with taking the car unless I take another day off and come down and hand over another $1200.

DO NOT USE COMMUNITY KIA-Baytown Texas!!!!!!

Have had our deposit since 1/2/21 and turns out they order the wrong vehicle. Made no effort to make it right and avoided our phone calls.

Kia of Cape Coral, FL had PICTURES of a Prestige posted on their site, but the options list was a standard SX. It was listed on AutoTrader for $44k, on their website for $47k, and then after I had them run my credit, they told me "oh that isn't a prestige - let me send you pictures of one we just got in". They proceed to send me pictures of the very car I was already look at on their website (which still wasn't in the exact config we wanted). The asking price? $12k over MSRP. I said no thanks, and asked them to remove the fraudulent credit inquiry from my report (since it was ran under false pretenses). They said "with all due respect" I needed to read the fine print on their website, and that they would be willing to do $3k over MSRP. I said no thank you, I would be ordering from another dealer. They then said if any dealer was saying they'd offer MSRP, they were lying. I still declined. An hour later, they sent a text saying "the owners stopped by to meet with the GM and they said they can do MSRP."

I just placed an order for a Dark Moss SX P/N with Dune interior with Kia of Muncie instead and will be getting it $1,200 below MSRP.

New member here. Bad experience with Smithtown Kia in Long Island. I saw Smithtown Kia had the exact model I was looking for a month ago and it's still there today. I've been waiting for my local dealer but they have 0 inventory.

I contacted Smithtown and asked about the $5k markup and they mentioned a sales member would contact me back. After not getting a call back, I called them back and asked directly to speak to a sales associate. I simply asked if they were at all flexible with the $5k markup. I'm willing to drive there from out of state to buy the car today. The salesman was really rude and basically yelled that they will not negotiate on the $5k markup in a condescending voice. He followed it up with "Not only that will be raising the price soon". The call lasted a total of 2 minutes and he lost the sale. I don't really understand it.

Not surprised unfortunately. They are right by me. At the time 2 years ago it was 2k over. The salesman just said it is what it is and got up and left the desk. That's what made me look and go out of state to purchase mine.

I don't even mind them being firm on the $5k. But there's ways of communicating that politely.

Sorry for your bad experience, but I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who had a rude salesperson at Smithtown Kia. I was told flat out “SORRY the car is selling over MSRP. GOOD LUCK!” It was enough to push me towards a Palisade.

Hilltop Kia of Richmond, CA I think now belongs on this list. Heads up to the California peeps, Moe responded saying they now want a $5,000 markup over MSRP. Their current orders will receive MSRP but they will no longer do orders. I don't know if that's a temporary halt to orders but that was Moe's response.

Koons Kia of Woodbridge VA is charging a "market adjustment" of 10K. Told them have a nice day.

I stopped by Koons as well after work to check out some colors in person and I can confirm the $10k markup above MSRP. Good thing I’m ordering mine elsewhere.

After my searching this weekend, I have the following information on ADM with Georgia Dealers
Mike Murphy of Brunswick, GA - 10% ADM on all Vehicles
Kia Country of Savannah, Savannah GA - $1995 ADM on Vehicles below $30k, or $3995 on any above $30k.
Kia of Augusta, GA - $9k ADM on ALL Tellurides.
Evans, GA Kia - $9K ADM

Southern Pines KIA in NC just emailed me to tell me I could pay $5K over MSRP for a SX-P NFE that showed up unexpected.....

I told them No thanks!

My order is coming up on 9 months now and still no updates. My original salesman Charles and now the sales manager Carlos who entered my information into their system no longer work there.

Put my order in November. Still not in KFOS. If they now moved to markups then no incentive to put our orders in. I think might be lost cause. Starting to look at other SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe or the Honda Pilot.

Mine was in October. I was told back in January/February that they started working on October orders. The wait is definitely taking a toll especially after seeing other dealerships fulfill orders in 2-3 months for the same configuration.

Cartown kia in Nicholasville ky is asking for $8k markup on SX NF
Dutch Miller in Huntington and Charleston wv, asking $4,995 markup on any trim
Rusty Wallace in Tn asking $5k over on an EX NF. Have a deposit on one at another dealer in Ohio that’s supposed to be at sticker. Will add them to the good dealer list after purchase if something doesn’t change.

Frank Escobar @ Fette Kia treated us horribly. I let the customer service team know that he was awful. I wouldn't shop there! We went to Murray Kia in PA instead to get a kind sales person!
