Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

That's why you have to special order. They can't charge you over MSRP then
This is not true. Many dealers charge over MSRP on orders as well. However, there are some that won't - seek them out. Check the "Good dealer" thread.

If there is any Kia dealerships charging you over MSRP for a special order then that is a dealership you do not want to go to That's shady. The whole point of special orders is you're getting what you want but you have to wait for it. I can understand charging over MSRP if they have something on the lot that is hot.

Ordered my 2020 in September 2019 from Kia of Puyallup. Dealt with Internet Sales Manager Tim L. He agreed to order at MSRP. I ordered and waited 6 months. I planned on buying the warranties from Kia of Muncie (from these forums), but when I picked it up, the asshole in the finance department sold me the "Same thing" through them. They also put me through "Special" financing, which increases their commission, and my APR. And they gave me crumbs for my trade ($1000 with a KBB trade in value of $4500). So they made their money off of me. Except instead of me being ready for it, they had me by the dangly bits because I had just waited for a vehicle I really, really wanted. They knew they had a captive audience that would do pretty much anything to drive it home.

Tim was fine. I don't think it was his fault. It was the snake sales managers and finance guy. They are the ones that give car salesmen the reputation they have. And by the way, I had a nail in my tire and the tire has to be replaced. Instead of it being $0 deductible with a lifetime max value of $5000 for a $700 plan, I'm paying for it out of pocket. I'm so pissed at Kia of Puyallup.

I'm picking mine up from Puyallup at the end of the month. I've been working with Tim also. Are you saying the finance guy forced you to use their financing or did you have a choice to use another?

Sounds like it would be illegal to force someone to go with a particular lender. Also, if your car had a trade in value of $4500 and they only gave you 1k, why on earth wouldn’t you sell it yourself?

I've got questions too...The guy's had his car for a year and a half now and everything was fine, but now something something warranty....and he goes on a tirade about the buying process?

Hey @Ubertam , instead of coming on the forum and posting once, how about answering our questions?

Kentson Car Company American Fork Utah.

Currently have 5 Canadian SX models foe sale with “full factory bumper to bumper warranty”. If you don’t ask the right questions you may be in for some costly surprises down the road. Not to mention heart wheels on an SX.
Oh, and all are above MSRP.

Paramount Kia in Asheville, NC charging $9,000 over MSRP.

All, here are a list of dealers charging over MSRP out west. Don’t waste your time:

Fiesta Kia - Abq Nm (3500 over),

Santa Fe - SF NM (2450 over)

Pete’s Kia - Amarillo TX (4000 over - acted like I was an idiot for even asking if they sold at MSRP)

Casa Kia - El Paso TX (4,690 over)

Pitre Kia - Las Cruces NM (5000 over)
And…. Every dealer in California is 7500 to 10,000 over MSRP. I ended up buying in Colorado for no mark up and will take a short road trip to pick it up when it comes in.

Didn't have notifications on, so I didn't see people's posts.

I was not forced to use their lender.

I could have sold my car private party and made more money.

The reason I bring up the sales process now is that I was under the impression I bought a warranty that covered tires, which is the comparative product I brought to the finance guy and thought I was buying; that turned out to be a lie.

Lending: Kia was offering a financing deal. Tim, being a bro, told me that my credit and down payment would qualify me for whatever financing I want. He was trying to warn me that the finance guy might try to pull one over, but I was too dumb to realize what he meant. I normally would have gone to my credit union for car financing, but they had a low APR. I was expecting 0% or 0.9% or 1.9% or something like that. But when I was in the room with the finance guy, he told me they were going to put me through "special financing." I didn't hear it at the time - the buzz of excitement of getting our new car we'd just waited 6 months for was loud in my ears. But looking back - even that night - I realized what it meant. I sold cars for a month twenty years ago, and I remembered that "special financing" is for people with bad credit. My rate was higher - 3.6% or something like that. It wasn't a big deal - I was going to pay it off early or refinance anyway.

Could I have made a stink about financing? Yes. Should I have? Probably. Did I have every right to tell the finance guy to go to hell? Sure. I didn't. Should I have had to? No. The finance guy and sales managers were being dicks.

Trade-in: Tim, also being a bro, explained that they weren't going to give me a good deal on my trade because they sold me MSRP. They knew what they had. They had a Telluride SX Prestige that they could turn around and sell for 5k over MSRP tomorrow if I walked away. They had me by the balls and they knew it. I didn't want to drive my old car home. I didn't want to deal with selling it. Going to the DMV and deal with a title transfer. I don't have time for that. And apparently I can afford to lose a few grand on a deal. But I'm not happy about it. It wasn't the spirit of the agreement to sell me the car for MSRP.

Warranty: I had the printouts for the warranty that Muncie was offering and brought those. They included a specific tire package. $5,000 lifetime coverage limit and includes road hazards and wheel damage. It was like $700. I asked the finance guy for equivalent and he sold me the standard shitty warranty they offer. Turn down their crap warranty from Zunich and buy the warranty from Muncie instead.

Doubt anything and everything the finance guy says. Don't reward them for concealing information and toying around. I don't know if you'll have the ability to walk away from the deal - I didn't because I'd ordered it 6 months prior - but without, they'll have you by the balls. Don't turn into a smiling, nodding idiot like I did.

That's really useful. Thanks, mine is due next week.

Stopped at Paramount KIA Asheville today. They are now adding $9950 to the MSRP. And they are getting it (or something close).

Enterprise Kia in Enterprise Alabama. They are marking Tellurides up 15ish thousand over MSRP. They have a used 2020 S with 20k on the clock for $49,000 and didnt want to budge on it. Nice people other than that though.

Jim Ellis Kennesaw tried this on me, but I went to Ed Voyles.

How much they quote you?

For all you new buyers of Kia Telluride. my 2 cents - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I have the 2021 SX AWD. Paid 4k extra to get the car. I loved the way the car drove. compared to even the Merc GLB or Pilot. But after 8k miles and 10 months of ownership, I have transformed from a happy customer to a guy with a grin on his face.

The materials in cars are in certain places are sloppy.
1. The door handle cover(where the physical key goes), popped out and wouldn't stay there now.
2. My car broke down 4 weeks back when went to the beach and is still with the service center. They are replacing the transmission (warranty). I am sure none of you want it on any new car, especially when you pay a fat price.
3. The nearest service center was 2 hours away. Roadside assistance was good, but that's about it. If your car breaks down in a remote place, be prepared to wait for help
4. The service center (Kia-Greenbrier) has called me twice in the last 4 weeks. None in the last 2 weeks.
5. Kia does not have parts. If your car does to dealer for repair it will take ages.
6. The KIA customer support is a bunch of nice folks, but they too can't do much after you raise the complaint.
Maybe I am just unlucky with the car. But transmission issue in the car is a complaint that you will see in the other places in the forum.

8500 miles here and have loved every single one of em. Sorry you have had a bad experience, but one experience doesn't make this vehicle a "waste of money". There is a reason why the Telluride is top dog in its class.
