Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

Yes, really like the sound system. I see some reviewers knocking it for not sounding as good as they think it should, but I think it's good. First time with a HUD, pretty cool.

Koons Kia Woodbridge, VA. Terrible bait and switch from the deal we made on the phone to what the sales contract had when I came in. Avoid at all costs. Dishonest, deceitful, and disrespectful to customers.

When I had finally made a verbal deal with my salesman, he told me to go home and get the second key fob for my trade, the title and my DD214 for the military discount. When I came back to the dealer, he asked me to sign the back of the title and give it to him. I told him "absolutely not". I told him that I will sign the back of the title AFTER I have completed the paperwork with the finance guy. Things tend to change ALOT, from the sales desk to the finance desk. If I had signed the back of the title and the deal fell apart, I would have to go to DMV and get a replacement title.

Tricky tricky dealer. Thanks for posting about this. Good to know that you shouldn’t do this until the very end

The treatment is very good, but &10k over MSRP…

4 to 17 to 3 to Nutley Kia.

And to everyone else in Jersey, skip Englewood and drive the 25-30 minutes to Nutley (or however long it takes from wherever you are). You’ll be glad you did. Don’t bother with any other NJ dealers. No others are selling at MSRP right now.

P.S. If the dealer’s website says, “Call for Price”, it means, “We’re charging over MSRP”.

If I had to do it all over again. I would not have bought my 2022 Telluride EX. I now have buyers remorse, knowing that I paid too much for my new car, that I didn't really even need and did not get what I EXACTLY wanted. Don't get me wrong.....the car is great ! I just can't stand that I allowed myself to fall for their nonsense. I could have waited another year and got what I really wanted. If things get better with the chip shortage and dealers start playing fair again, I know that if I traded in my 2022 for 2023 next year, I would not recoup the $7000 over MSRP I paid.

Makes you wonder about all those other Tellurides that are only selling at 5-10k above MSRP....how much buyer's remorse there is. New car excitement wears off pretty fast when you realize you've been had....

Thanks so much - checking them out soon! No rush in ordering, but this is a very good heads up! 😬

You would surprised if you checked the caravana or Vroom offers for your 2022. You’d definitely make up some of that $7,000. I would order at MSRP and enjoy the car you have until the new one comes in. With a refundable deposit, you’ve got nothing to loose. We can’t be certain the market will remain the same but it doesn’t seem to be dropping.

I think you’re in NY and Nutley will only sell in-state. You can call around dealers in western NY and also try CT. I believe Premier Kia in Branford CT was at MSRP. You can also try the three dealer near Philly that are MSRP. Good luck.

Planning to move to NJ, I was today visiting apartments :) that’ll be next year, but brought my wife today into the showroom to get her to feel the Telly and Sorento.

Thanks again!

Another one to skip in NJ… Fette Kia in Clifton. $10,000 markup.

I don’t know how they can get away with it when Nutley Kia is only 6 miles away, but they are, somehow.

As long as people keep paying it (see post #1366), they'll keep getting away with it. It is suprising to me that anyone would pay over MSRP let alone $5-10k+.

Everyone’s situation is different. As an example, when we ordered in august we weren’t willing to pay over. Now with that car still not being picked up by Kia, and a baby due to arrive in March we’re willing to pay a bit over (not 5k). Another example is for people trading in their cars. If they’re getting 5k more than what their trade in is worth, but then buying something 5k over, is it really a big deal to them? Probably not.

I posted earlier that my 2012 Chev Suburban was traded in for $18500. They originally wanted to give me only $16k. I found the truck for sale in a Pennsylvania Chevy dealership (Fred Beans) for $30,000 !!!! Its since been sold. I wonder what they actually got for it in the end. I should have sold it privately and made and extra $3000 - $5000 from the sale.

Any price is justifiable if you convince yourself enough....Yes, trade-in values definitely help, but that is still going to be the case whether you get the Telluride at MSRP or not. So you still lose money on the transaction in this example.

There are folks in a situation where they have to have a car right away (a total loss accident, for example) - I get that. But anyone else should be planning ahead and being flexible with the vehicle they get. I wouldn't get my heart set on the hardest SUV to get on the market if you have a short timeline. It's like me deciding that I have to get a unicorn burrito for lunch today or I'm not eating....I'm probably not eating.

You should hopefully be OK to get your Telluride by March - still got plenty of time.

I have tons of Unicorn Burritos in my warehouse. But, I'm getting $500 over normal price. The unicorn chips are very hard to get right now.

Had spoken to a rep at Motion Kia in NJ. Very nice and courteous but they were asking for $7,000 over MSRP and said no Tellurides are being sold at MSRP anywhere. Kindly declined their offer and continued on my way.

I thought that too. My original order from PA dealer from august is now looking more like may (based on the info I got) I’m glad I placed another order from i25 that hopefully gets picked up next month.

I went to Motion very early in my search (mid 2019) before I was actually ready to buy. In those early days they were willing to order at MSRP. Too bad they jumped on the greed bandwagon. Worse, at $7,000, they’ve increased their markups.

Take a ride to Nutley.
