Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

Nutley Kia , NJ, they sell on MSRP. i got it from them. nice dealer. i think they might be the only one sell on msrp in nj
I went to them for that very reason and put in my deposit today. However, they would not finalize the deal until after the vehicle arrives. Since this is the first time I am ordering and not buying off the lot, I did not question it. Was that the same for you? Should I have pressed to finalize the deal now?

Since this is the first time I am ordering and not buying off the lot, I did not question it. Was that the same for you? Should I have pressed to finalize the deal now?

I also ordered from Nutley. Somebody else asked that same question and this is what I wrote sometime back regarding that:

TL;DR
They didn't give me the financing rate in writing.

Long Story
At Nutley
, They told me that the financing rate will be Kia promotional rate at the time of delivery. At the moment, the best rate for the Telluride is 1.9% APR for 60 months. Based on my research, they have to honor the Manufacturer promotional rate at the time of purchasing the vehicle. And because of all the economics stimulus implemented by the Feds to counter the effect of the pandemic, I am almost certain prevailing interest rates won't go up in a year.

Now, let's say the guy at Muncie Nutley is full of sh** and backs out when I am in the process of paying for my car and say I have to pay 5% APR. At that moment, I have a few tools to my disposal (and this is me, that have the money to pay full in cash but decide not to touch my investments):

1. I can go to my Credit Union as get a loan for a 2.29% APR for the full amount (MSRP, Taxes and Fees). Then go to Muncie Nutley, pay full cash, show them the middle finger and drive away.
2. Sell some of my investments. Then go to Muncie Nutley, pay full cash, show them the middle finger and drive away.
3. Accept their rate/incentives and refinance as soon as I get my loan information from the servicing company.

In all situations, they will not make any money from me from financing and I will come to the forums and bash them for dishonest business practices. In addition, will follow a complaint with Kia for Muncie Nutley not honoring Kia's promotional interest rate.

I know that we should never trust dealership because most of them are crooks in the business of at least taking as most money as possible from their customers or at most scamming people right out. However, I work in the finance industry and no business in their right mind will lock you in an interest rate for 6-8 or even 12 month without asking for some non-refundable cash. Try to lock an interest rate for a home loan for more than a month and they will start asking your for non-refundable money or at least non-refundable "appreciation fees".

Maybe I am wrong, but that is the way I see it. I am willing to live with the results.

EDIT: Sorry for mentioning Muncie instead of Nutley. I was confused by a question not asked directly to me. I know Muncie has a great reputation in this forum.

Hope it helps.

So, in other words, I will be fine.

After I came home and started thinking about it thoroughly, my mind started racing. So, I rushed to find some answers online which led me here. Thanks for calming me down. (y)

By the way, I got an SX with Nightfall and tow packages, in Sangria and black interior.

Yes. Kia of Irvine was adding $7k market adjustment. I suppose they are trying to feast while they can. IMHO it really turns people off to the brand. I’m sure many people who are looking at the Telluride are customers who have never set foot in a Kia dealership (I know I haven’t) and it’s almost like going back in time and experiencing the shady practices of days gone by. Corporate needs to completely re-educate the dealer network!!!
Agree with this one! I was working with someone there and placed a refundable deposit.. but after some research on this forum, I was seeing many folks who were able to get MSRP pricing and one guy on here said he got msrp at Kia of Irvine! I was shocked since I got quoted $4000 over MSRP. When I called to speak with the manager to see if there was wiggle room in the price, he said no and that he didn't want to do$4000, it was supposed to be $5000, and will happily cancel my deposit and turn around to sell it to the next person for more. I was shocked at how rude and not customer oriented service. He even mumbled out I'll cancel your deposit and hung up before I could get another word in to negotiate.. so shocked I called my husband in disbelief and was near tears.

After some more research, found out Hilltop will let you order at MSRP, and many others out of state, even with shipping.. it's not near the mark up cost in Socal

I love messing with this crap dealers.

"What do you know about the telluride"
"Not much" I lied
"Would you like to drive one"
"Yes"
"What did you think"
"Seems like a lot of car for 49 thousand" I'm baiting here
"One thing I need to tell you is that there is a 5k premium on the SX"
"Oh really, that's interesting"
"Yeah, you're not going to find any dealer without that markup"
"ok, I'll think about it"

I really don't get why anyone would pay over sticker.

Stopped by Paramount KIA in Asheville today. One Telluride in stock, an EX FWD model. Dealer premium of $9,000, but it did include nitrogen in tires.

OK, thanks, I'm out....

They’re about 1.5 hours from me. I have tried to reason with them, but to no avail. Thankfully, it was all via text and I didn’t make the mistake of going over there.

Southwest Kia in Austin - sent me this txt:

"Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today about your interest in the kia Telluride. Since the current supply of the Kia Telluride is less than half of what it was 30 days ago, I didn't even think Kia was even entertaining custom orders anymore. Now that the 2022's are underway and the current residual on them now is 100%+, I anticipate for them to be significantly more expensive. I thought I'd supply you with our current asking prices for the 2021 SXP NF and my contact information so that you have it for reference. $58k-$60k + TT&L".

I think they are full of crap and will keep looking for a reputable dealer who isn't marking these things up.

I think Kia is well aware that a huge price increase would end their production problems rather quickly.

So awful. Full of mistruths and speculation......or just downright uninformed and ignorant. Since when are the 2022's underway?!? Laughable. :ROFLMAO: Way too many good dealers than to deal with that.

New here and probably been reiterated but here’s my experience:
Vegas area: Jim Marsh & Towbin: $3-7k MU
DTLA Kia: $3-7k MU
Ventura Kia: $3-5k MU
Palm Springs Kia: $5-7k MU (don’t forget sales tax here is 9.5%)
Victorville Kia: MSRP but $3k MU on dealer installs (basically roundabout way to MU)
Irvine Kia: $10k MU on an EX premium (was previously listed at $40k msrp then updated online after I inquired). The internet sales lady was willing to sell an SX trim for MSRP, looks like someone here bought it a few pages back, I think was due to the color combo.

May/may not be the right forum but I’m currently in talks with Kia of Carson, quoted an OTD price of MSRP EX premium trim. I’m in Vegas so wondering if anyone can provide any details as most of the reviews state that Carson Kia has MUs on the 50+ tellurides sitting on their lot. Sounds like a bait and switch to me but not sure how purchasing a car online goes. Any advice/help? All these MU’s really make me just want to pay the extra $1k and get the Palisade SEL prem pkg.

Koons Kia of Woodbridge.

Like many, I’ve been in the market for months looking for a certain spec at MSRP. Koons Kia of Woodbridge got a Wolf Grey EXP in so I called and gave my normal “pitch”. Basically that I’ve already decided I want one, already test driven, etc. and if they sell without a mark up I’ll come down and get it as soon as I can for a quick easy sale but I’m only a buyer at MSRP. They said deal. Awesome - finally getting my Telluride!

Made it in a few days later to meet the same salesperson I spoke to over the phone. Spent about 30-45 mins there before he tells me there’s a $5k mark up. Confused, I bring up our conversation and he plays dumb as if it never happened. Ultimately says there’s nothing he can do about the mark up so I thank him for wasting our time and leave. He also had to assure me there was no way I’d find a Wolf Grey EXP at MSRP any where...literally bought one at MSRP the next morning. Review on that dealer will go in the positive thread.

The Koons salesperson kept defending the mark up which was even more frustrating. How do you not understand the mark up is not the issue? I expected a mark up. It’s the reason I’ve been looking for months. It’s the reason I called. If you said sorry can’t do anything about it on the phone call I would have thanked for your time and continued my search. Sometimes I don’t understand these idiots.

Trash dealership with trash tactics.

Where did you find one? Folks are always interested in where they can find them at MSRP.

I have posted this time and time again, in the GOOD DEALER thread. Not too far from NOVA is Parsons Kia in Winchester, VA. Travel due west on Rte 7 or 66 and its only 1 1/2 - 2 hrs drive. Small family owned selling at MSRP and when I'm ready to buy I will be going there. The dealer fee is $695 so a bit steep but less than a trip from VA to Muncie. We really need a thread dedicated to only NOVA/VA dealers, assuming there isn't already one.

I would have driven from California to Virginia if it meant I didn't have to deal with a Northern VA dealer, I would have hired a submarine and raised one of the containers that sunk in the ocean then buy from a Northern VA dealer.

I haven’t had a good experience with Midwest Kia in Wichita,KS. I’d be eyeballing the telluride and Hyundai palisade for over 6 month trying to decided between which I wanted. I finally decide it was time to pull the trigger. After calling other dealerships with 3-4 hours away and checking into cars for sale on lots I decided I need to test drive one here to confirm I wanted it before driving far away to purchase it. Called the dealership, they insisted I set up an appointment so I could meet with them and test drive the car and wouldn’t have to wait. They had messaged me in the day asking if I could come soon. So we rearranged our schedules and were able to come in earlier. When we got there all their clients were busy and they said they had someone looking at the car and were going to test drive it first. After waiting 20 minutes they set us up with a young girl would apologized that she didn’t know much about the car. She had to ask other employees questions constantly. We swore this was her first experience selling cars. After leaving despite how bad our experience was, I called to put an order in and $1,000 down. The guy that does the ordering wasn’t very nice. Talked down to me, made me feel like I was bothering him. He went on about how popular the Tellurides are and that they are only letting people that live in Wichita put orders in. He said since I lived in Cheney(small town 15 miles from Wichita) that he would make an exception 🙄. He said my order would in around November, Christmas at the very latest. 60-90 days. I put my order in on September 2, 2020 for a black AWD S. It’s Dec 26th....they are telling me February now. That’s more than double the initial 60-90days they told me. I’ve tried emailing the guy that ordered it for me for updates, still never received a reply and it’s been 6 weeks with no reply. They say to not call and they will call me when it gets allocated. After getting into it via text with the “Telluride specialist” that was very rude. He had a superior call me sense I was upset about the date being delayed, I asked about getting my $1,000 because I had another dealership offering me one next month they are getting in. He said no and wasted 30 minutes of my life talking BS and I never got anywhere with him. So it looks like I’m waiting till February or later, or lose $1,000. I understand things are backed up, but they are being assholes. Meanwhile Hyundai keeps calling me every few weeks asking if I got my Telluride. They’ve been trying to get me to buy a Palisade from they. Everything about them is better, love that dealership. I bought a new Sant Fe from them in 2013 and have had a great experience with them since. Tempted to give up and go with them. Their customer service is much better. Not looking forward to years of dealing with Mid West Kia.

So sorry you had to go thru that but yes I’m working with Hilltop now after dealing with rude and unprofessional people! My sales guy was the only one actually researching and calling me back when he said he would with me being in Hawaii and trying to finance with Kia Financial. All the other dealers were quick to say they can’t sell to me in Hawaii. I don’t get it. Kia Financial - can apply to anyone nationwide. I’m handling my own shipping arrangements so I idk what everyone’s deal is!
