• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... GAS MILEAGE

I have sxp with awd. I have 550 miles on it now. Took it for 400 miles of interstate driving averaging 75-80mph on sport mode. Got about 24 mpg. Last 200 miles were a lot of up hill driving.

The owners manual states, for the first 600 miles, drive between 2,000rpm and 4,000RPM, SMART OR SPORT WORKS per the factory. By the way I do the same speed on the interstate in smart and the read indicates between 25-26, mine is FWD.

We have several Tellurides that go out driving all the time getting 30MPG. These are front wheel drive and not AWD.

May I ask what mode, ECO? how much highway VS. street and how much CC?

I don't get how close to 30 mpg is even remotely possible. (no offense). I only have about 2500 miles and yes, I have a lead foot, but I get like 18 mpg overall.

Are driving in sports mode?

We keep ours in SMART mode. That way we always get the best mode for how we are driving at that moment.

As I know, Eco mode on AWD = FWD. Definitely, it uses less gas with the eco mode.

Smart mode. 99% highway driving. Smart mode is the best. It will use the best mode for whatever is needed.

No. Never Sport mode. Generally had been leaving it in Smart mode all the time. Recently switched to Comfort, just to see what happened.

Beating the EPA estimates so far on 6 fill ups. Ranging from 27.56 - 32.89. Exclusively highway driving from Boise ID to Chicago. Driving posted speed limit in ECO mode. Using smart Cruise, 37-38 Tire psi, a/c always on and of course channel 6 on Sirius.

So with the engine properly broken in and with almost 6k miles of driving in the books, I am getting an overall MPG average of close to 30. Holy crapsticks! That's almost DOUBLE what I got with the two previous X5s I had. And this is for an 8 seater SUV! Amazing! 🇰🇷
First road trip of over 1,300 miles in my EX AWD I got 29MPG. Thrilled! I was driving at 75 for half of the trip and generally not under 65 for the rest of it...

These are some very impressive numbers folks. Very impressive.

I have a question for those of you that are saying you keep the car in “smart” mode all the time (I agree this is a cool feature). But what “mode” is the car in when you have it set to smart mode and have the smart cruise set? Mine doesn’t show a mode and just says “off”

Round trip from Ft Worth, TX to Clearwater, FL....Not too shabby!! SX FWD driven in Smart Mode.

Not really. Still average around 18-19mpg. Same as on Smart Mode. Seems like it shifts a little smoother in Comfort Mode, though.

Just did a road trip from Orange County, CA to SF with my EX FWD. Got 30mpg going up and 27 coming back down. I was drafting a car in front @75-80 using cruise control on the way up and was solo the way down (steeper inclines going south). Overall does great on Hwy and longer drives but city is more like 18mpg especially with all the stop and go traffic in SoCal. Car is now @ 3500mi and it’s kept in Smart mode. I’ve noticed it usually just keeps it Eco or Comfort but never switches to Sport.

I did round trip about 140 miles in total yesterday. 4 people. I used smart mode all day, and used smart cruise control on highway.
It indicated 29.5 mpg when I arrived at Denver. It down to 27.5 mpg when I got back to Colorado Springs. It makes sense considering the altitudes. COS=6035 ft, Denver=5280 ft.
It is really good on highway. In city, it varies between 16 and 21 mpg.
Overall, 23.6 mpg over 3700 miles so far.
