Non Nightfall SX Prestige Waiting Room

I think the new Sorento is going to also be huge for KIA. I predict long lines for the SXP X-Line trim. If we didn't need a larger third row - that would be a compelling alternative.

Meanwhile K5 sales are going strong and next spring the new Sedona launches which will probably be KIAs best year for minivan sales. It is a good time to be a KIA salesman!

I bet some of that makes it to the Telluride when they do a mid-cycle refresh - which will help keep Telluride sales strong. At this point - KIA (and the dealerships) are printing money with KIA SUV sales.

Kia (and their dealerships) had some lean years when they had to over-rely on car sales (heavy discounts and fleet sales) due to a limited CUV lineup.

The average profitability for Kia dealerships was below $1 million, but should be markedly improved by next year with a heavily revised lineup (a good part of lower profitability is tied to lower used car/CPO sales - where Kia has lagged behind, but such sales have been growing).

The new Sorento being available with a hybrid should steal some sales away from the Highlander hybrid (the room at the 3rd row is not that much more in the Highlander).

But in addition to increasing sales, think the new Sedona will have a higher take rate for the top trim than the Sorento, bringing in buyers looking for a more premium minivan (much like how the SX-P has done for the mainstream 3-row CUV segment).

Don't think the K5 will overtake the Sonata in ATP (highest in the segment) due to not offering a hybrid (but does offer AWD, which the Sonata currently does not), but matching the Sonata in ATP means more profit to both Kia and t the dealerships.

At a lower pricepoint, the Seltos has been a success for Kia (should bring over the new Sonet, which, despite its smaller size, looks better than the Seltos), and there's a new Sportage on the way.

There are also a number of dedicated BEV models on the way, but it remains to be seen if mainstream BEVs can be sold for a profit (a couple of these BEVS will be more performance oriented, so going for a more upscale clientele).

Honda is taking a page from the Telluride and is making the next Pilot more rugged, but based on the images of the updated and more rugged Ridgeline, not impressed.

Agree on all points. I really hope that this new found dealer profitability will drive some investment at KIA dealerships. Here in San Antonio, TX - the dealers (except one) are really dumpy and small. And they are all in lower income parts of town. Would be nice to see one of the automotive groups here branch out with a new location and build a dealership that would better reflect the current and future KIA product line. A sample of what San Antonio has to offer:

World Car KIA North - small but at least a branded building - run down inside:

Work Car KIA San Antonio - and yes the sign looks like this today. I went by yesterday to sit in a Telluride to see if my son (who is traveling with me to pick up my car next Saturday) was big enough to sit in the front seat seat belt wise...long story but my wife wanted me to make sure the seat belt in the front row fit him right before we traveled up there and I made the dad call to let him right up front coming home. Safety first...lol.

You can barely see the KIA logo on the sign. And it isn't on the building anywhere. Pathetic - it is like KIA is an afterthought.

Ancira KIA - the best one in town - but farthest from me:

World Car KIA South - again - no branding on the building:

But at least this has a sign on the property:

Compare what San Antonio has to @StephenCantrelle dealership - a night and day difference:

Both Austin dealers are super nice, their pricing is not so nice

Agreed. Yet they have done massive business - How do they find so many people willing to pay huge mark ups?

My VIN finally popped up this week on Failcat and was later confirmed by the dealer after 11 long months. I ordered the Tow Option as I will only be carrying a bike rack with two bikes, but KIA has given me the Tow Package with self-leveling suspension instead. Not sure I need that, but I am sure I don't want to pay the extra $300+ now and probably more when it is time to replace the shocks. We shall see how the negotiation goes given the 2020 MSRP originally quoted vs the 2021 MSRP (about a $1300 difference). With my current 11/12 ETA, that will be 366 days from order to delivery! A record?

You’ve got me beat, slightly. Put down a deposit 12/7/19 and have an ETA of 11/4/20.

So much wealth is being generated in Austin that all dealers are among the fastest growing regardless of brand. Kia who targets younger buyers is ideal to capture this growth given the average age of Austin is around 30 (one of the youngest large cities in the country). Aside from Telluride I bet majority of their sales are at or near MSRP and nearly all have a loan or lease, which is how dealers make money. Compare that to Lexus who has a cash buyer problem (combined with age of buyer problem).

You'll appreciate the self-levelling if you ever have to transport a portly individual such as myself. The SUVs I see that sag in the rear, Infinity, Lexus, etc when they have more than two people or have stuff in the back, its pathetic. They are supposed to be SUVs, not oversized station wagons ;)

Agreed. This is the primary reason we got the tow package...just so we could get the self leveling suspension. Nothing worse than seeing a unibody SUV/CUV or minivan sagging in the rear because all the seats are full.

More SXPs hit Failcat today...looks like we are going on week three of a drought of NFP production. I expect KIA will start shifting around Prestige trims soon to balance out between SXP and NFP...but hopefully with all the old orders getting filled they are getting caught up. Anyone with an August allocation get a VIN yet? @PassingTime Did you get your VIN?

did you get the build sheet ETAs aka Detail Delivery Status from the dealer?

The VIN# is issued the day after the the body goes in.

No, I will ask, thanks for the advice.

I think I might have you beat by just a tad. Not that this is a record either of is want to win. ;) Ordered 10/17/2019 and current ETA is 11/5/2020. If that holds true, I'll be at 384 days.

I love how this sign so prominently has Isuzu and Suzuki on it... two brands that have been out of the US market for about a decade (or more)! Definitely would make me think twice about even stopping in.

Yeah - and you wonder why so many people on this thread from San Antonio go elsewhere to buy their Telluride!
