What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

I'm glad that I'm not paying any dealer markup sucks to have to wait for my vehicle for this long but at least I'm not getting hosed.

I paid MSRP for my 2010 Jetta diesel wagon. The flip side was there was no state sales tax and federal $1300 tax credit. Which turned it into a good buy.

Lucky you. Sick to my stomach coughing up the markup. If times were different…

If the deal works out great—our car arrives exactly as ordered within the suggested time frame.

If the deal doesn’t work out, the VW Atlas is Plan B. But I’m really not into it.

Our salesman messages from time to time saying a car arrived that’s like what you ordered but in white…or it’s on a different island but in black…I get it. He knows we urgently need a car. But there is the additional markup for buying now opposed to waiting for ours.

There are two 2019 used Tellys on their lot. Going for $54k each. Base model and EX? Guy says they charge more for used cars than ordering new. I don’t get it.

The folks who are paying 3k+ over MSRP are exasperating the issue. I'm kind of shocked to see the amount of people ITT have done it. It's one thing to pay 1-3k over because hey, to some extent, I get dealerships trying to scrape a little more out of a popular vehicle and a lot of them throw in a few things to account for it – but 5k over for a vehicle that is quite literally meant to be a budget alternative? Why not just buy a proper luxury vehicle if you're spending 60k?

The market for Tellurides is inflated because people keep paying silly prices for them; if folks would stop, the numbers would go down. Sure, chip shortages, covid, etc. don't help the situation – but they wouldn't be charging if folks weren't buying at the end of the day.

I really like the Telluride (I plan on buying one), but if I were in the market to spend 50-60k on a vehicle, even though I really like it – I wouldn't do it because the manufacturers themselves admit the value isn't in the vehicle. I'd probably go buy a Yukon, Forerunner, or maybe even a Wrangler. Heck the resale value on one of these will (probably, we don't know yet) crush Tellurides over their existences as road-worthy vehicles.

Bought Friday at Jim Ellis Kia in Kennesaw, GA. I shopped all around the Atlanta area and everyone was charging MSRP + $5,000-$7,500 and were not budging. I went with Jim Ellis for 2 reasons:
  1. Their $5K mark-up included lifetime powertrain warranty, window tinting with lifetime warranty, 3 year fabric and paint coverage, 3 year key replacement, nitrogen filled tires, and door edge guards and door cup guards. I would never buy a package like that, but all of the other dealers were charging $5K-$7.5K and including nothing extra. With that lifetime powertrain warranty, I guess this vehicle will be with us until the grave.
  2. They had one arriving in the color we wanted and in AWD which was our only real must have. We really didn't want to wait 3-6 months for a special order.
Jim Ellis does not let people put a deposit on a car unless you order it directly from Kia. For stock cars, it is first come first served when it hits the lot. My salesman texted me Friday morning. By the time I was looking at the vehicle, there were 2 other customers waiting for me to decide if I wanted it or not.:p

I ended up with a S trim AWD in Gravity Gray with gray interior. With the options it came with (floor mats, cargo cover, auto-dimming mirror with HomeLink, interior lighting, mud guards, and front skid plate), the MSRP was $38,920. Add $1,225 for destination charge, $5,089 for the warranty package disccussed above, $699 normal dealer fee, plus tax, title, and tag and it was $49K out the door. Sounds ridiculous until you ask a few dealers what they can put you in a used Telluride for and get quotes of $53K-$62K.

I worked with Bryson at Jim Ellis. They were great throughout the process, and even threw in lifetime car washes.
Did you look at all at Palisade? You could have gotten a Palisade Calligraphy, their absolute top of the line package – which is truly pretty luxurious for 50k. By comparison, that's the lowest end model Telluride versus the highest end Palisade.

(Not trying to vouch for Palisade, Telluride's mean and sporty front-end crushes Hyundai's – but they're really comparable vehicles for the most part and are both really good choices, so seemed like an apt comparison).

Palisade are all marked up just as bad as tellurides right now

I feel very lucky.

Started my search on a Saturday and drove my Telluride S home Monday night.
Traded in a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/114K miles and got $15K :)
2022 Telluride S in White Pearl. $1500 down, $1500 dealer inflation and all kinds of "extras" for free...5 year free windshield warranty, Free "lost key" fob and 2 years free oil changes. NO gap needed and no extended warranty (2nd Kia and never have had issues previously)
Dealer asked "How much do you think you should pay for the vehicle" and it was off to the races!
Wife's dream car for the last 2 years, she's happy.

On the flip side, other dealers wanted $5-12k OVER for the same vehicle with a 2 month delivery time and $3K up front. One stealership wanted $66K for a EX AWD in wolf grey. And people were actually test driving it. The salesman said, it will sell. (n):cautious: wow.

This is true, for sure. The Telluride has a couple of things going for it—amazingly smooth ride quality, well appointed USB ports, allotted space, etc.; dead quite road noise, excellent reviews and awards, great warranty (assuming they honor it), and good reviews for engine quality. What it doesn’t have going for it is the insane price tag. Because I’ve literally been trying to talk myself out of paying $60k for a Kia that has questionable resale value.

But! The Kia isn’t junk like the X5. There’s a whole Reddit forum for it. We were quoted a 6-8 month wait time for the Q7. The 4Runner isn’t a smooth ride. It’ll make a pregnant mama throw up at least once during the test drive. The Aviator is beautiful but has questionable seatbelt safety lockup concerns. The Highlander is cheaply built. The Atlas just doesn’t look right. Volvo’s backseat bench is too short for anyone over 5’3”. And all the other cars don’t cut it for us. None of them give as much bang for the buck at MSRP. But yes, at $60k, I’m still shopping around while awaiting arrival…and secretly hoping something else will make it’s way to me.

Over the past week I've been looking for deals for a SXP 2022 AWD with nightfall/towing in and around NE Ohio (but also looking as far away as Indiana, North Carolina, and elsewhere based on the recommendations within this forum). It is crazy how diverse the prices and packages are right now and it seems as if even dealers don't know what they should charging their customers (when the truth is, they are charging exactly the right amount assuming they are selling everything before it hits the lot). Here's a sampling of what I have seen/heard:

- Order new build at MSRP, $500 down (fully refundable), 4-6 month to delivery (Halleen Kia)
- Order new build, $2k over MSRP, $500 + 3% down (Streetsboro Kia)
- Order new build, $2-4k over MSRP (Preston Kia)
- Order new build, $~4k over MSRP, 6 months to delivery (Kia of Bedford)
- Grab the exact model I want (including color) on their allocation, delivery 3/2, $4k over MSRP, $500 down (and trade-in valued at 92% of CarMax offer) (also Kia of Bedford)

Will likely go with the last option so we know we will have the car in time for Spring Break and summer trips to the beach.
I had my name on an SX (non-prestige) at Preston and just took my deposit back earlier this week. If you're willing to go non-prestige, it may still be available.

I'd go with Halleen if I had to do it all over again. HUGE volume between the North Olmsted and Sandusky store and still ordering at MSRP.

Mentor will order at MSRP but take wayyyyyyyy longer than they quote.

The 2023 Sequoia looks badass and Toyotas are a hell of a company. You could probably get a nice one for 60k. A mid-level Yukon. Acadias, Pathfinders…

Specs in my signature. Got mine for $53,835 which is over MSRP by a few thousand. I went into this knowing I would be paying slightly over MSRP, but I was also confident in my dealer getting me the car quicker than some of the other dealerships. Also, other dealerships had $10-8K markup. Only took 4 months for our factory order which seemed quicker than others. We agreed to $52,835, but after my deposit was down I was notified that Kia increased the cost to the dealers by $1K at the first of the year. The dealership said there is nothing they could do on that price. Anyone else heard of this? I was pretty peeved, but didn't have much leverage given I knew the dealer could turn around and sell my factory order for much more if I walked away.

I locked in a 2.5% for 72 months to begin with. I was talked into the extended B to B warranty for $2K extra, but also with a buy down on my rate to 1.99%. I know the B to B warranties are usually not worth it, but with the interest rate buy down it cancelled out and got the payment lower than it would be without the warranty.

At the end of the day $20K between cash and trade-in put my final payment at $529/month for 72 months (still have to pay sales tax when I register).

Wife is happy with the car, and I still feel good about the purchase.

He or she is not pulling no wool over my eyes. Next year all of these vehicles will be under water once the market falls out. I don't have to buy a vehicle, was just testing the waters. The last time I purchased a new vehicle(2017) I walked out two times before we made a deal. They don't call me the deal maker for no reason at all.
Comparing the car market of 2017 to 2022 is......

In the end, put a deposit on a SX AWD PNT that had not yet been claimed going into Kia of Bedford. Will be paying over invoice but justified it by 1) knowing that ordering now likely puts us into MY 2023 which will be more than 2022 2) interest rates will be rising and not sure where they will sit by the time the car arrives and 3) wanted to have the car before spring break and summer road trips. Scheduled arrival at Kia of Bedford projected to be 3/2.

Nice! Congrats!

I ended up going with an EXP out of town for the same reasons you mentioned. Really wanted an SX but just couldn’t wait any more.

How do you know the projected date is 3/2? Our dealer here is next to impossible. We were told that first the dealership takes our order, submits it (in our case, a week later. No idea why.), then waits to hear whether or not Kia will accept it or not.

Has anyone else heard of this before?

I didn't configure and place an order. The dealer sold me a car that they had on their allocation that had not yet been sold. That's how they knew approximately when the vehicle was due to arrive on their lot.

I'm hopeful that the black SX PNT that just showed up on failcat yesterday is our Telluride. Based on timing from failcat to arrival to dealers it seems like the timing is right.

Totally get that. Enjoy your new ride and congrats to you as well!

What is PNT?
