2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

Definitely a driveline vibration, noticed it yesterday, googled it when I came home and found this thread. Vibrations like this are NOT normal in any car, let alone one this expensive.

Definitely not normal. I live in Georgia about 30 minutes away from where they are made. They sent engineers from the plant to look at mine. I’m very happy they were able to resolve it. We really love this vehicle it has been great.

Hi anyone from Dubai having the same vibration issue, my vehicle gets the humm sound and vibration on steering wheel, pedals and floor from 70-105kph.. have checked the alignment twice now from different garages.

It’s a common problem with the first Production months, Hyundai already as aTSB on the palisade which is the same Exact platform in power train. Take it to the dealer and push the shop to get Techline and engineering involved which what I’m dealing with now. I attached the TSB for the Palisade I hope it helps

To those with the vibration, did it ever get progressively worse or it was there from day one and never changed?

It’s vibration and humming is getting worse as the miles pile on we have 13000 on ours now. It’s in the shop as we speak.

Hi Droman, thanks for above, went to the Service centres, addressed the problem in every minute details, spoke to main engineer, sales dept., everyone but all they can say is this is the first time we are coming across, no complaints from any other telluride owners, also no guidelines from "The Kia" and hence cannot do anything about it.
May i ask do you have similar document for Kia telluride, so i can escalate this again with evidence..

From my understanding, it happens on some of the AWD models and has to do with the propeller in the driveshaft causing the issue (or something to that effect).

Update on mine, It’s oddly getting better. It’s to the point where the roads within a 15 minute drive from the dealer are just rough enough I’m having trouble pinpointing it every time now. There’s no way they’ll feel it and admit anything. It was bad enough early on my hand would tingle from holding the steering wheel for 30 miles. Now with about 1500 miles on it I only feel it from time to time, so I’m gonna just drive it and see what happens. Maybe that driveshaft joint was a little tight, that’s the only thing I can come up with.

What did they do to fix your issue? I have a 2015 Genesis and had the same problem. They had to replace the entire center joint and rear half of driveshaft / knuckle, etc.

planning on buying a telluride but dont want to deal with the same issue as on my genesis.

I’ve noticed that on the rigid pavement on (grey colored concrete) there is indeed more vibration or oscillation at speeds above 65mph. Nothing like an imbalanced wheel, but shaking is noticeable. Especially visible with a baby car seat mirror.

Once I get to the portion of the highway that is flexible pavement (black colored asphalt) the car drives smooth as butter. No matter how fast I go, no vibration can be felt relative to the rigid pavement.

Never really noticed any difference when I drove my Audi A6 on Continental tires. Could it have to do with our Michelin tires on the Telluride not riding as well on specific types of pavement?

Coincidentally I put the same Michelin’s on my car last summer. I can say for a fact the tires were very easily influenced by grooves in the road. Car would sway left and right as the grooves in the freeway would go left and right. I notice this on my Telluride a bit, but it is not nearly as noticeable with the soft suspension and heavier weight. Other car was a bit more “aggressive” and setup to “feel the road”.

Took it out on the Highway to study the vibration before I take it in for service. Like Albert Ruiz noted, it is a deep hum. It lasts about 5 seconds and stops for a second or two and starts again - yes, pulsating deep hum. No steering wheel vibration, but the center console vibrates with the timing of the hum. Starts at about 69 or 70 mph and stops at about 75 mph. I took it gradually up to 95 mph and the situation only happens in the 69-75 mph range. Perhaps it would show up again at 140 mph, but I think may not want to test that out...

I am facing the same issue as soon as it hits 120 kph (75 mph), as soon as I either drop the speed or go over 120 kph it stops. But it is as you described, a deep pulsating hum. I thought it may be because the speed limit here is 120 kph and its somehow programmed to do that.

Well, 10 days ago (as I reported here) I got a call from one of the service managers and he said they just got some Tellurides off the truck and drove them and they have the same vibration problem! They told me their KIA service line had suggested they do that. They indicated that KIA engineering would be working on a fix.

Yesterday, I called to see what was happening. The service guy said that he would see the Factory Rep this Thursday (7/18) and he will call me by the end of that day. I hope there will be news of a fix. I have stopped driving the Telluride whenever my trip includes a highway. The vibration is very annoying and I am not sure what damage the vibration may be causing. None of us want this to be ignored by KIA. There are 9 of us just on this forum who have the exact same problem and there must be many others who have not found their way here. Push your service departments to talk to their factory reps. Does anyone have any productive ways to expedite this issue with KIA? KIA deserves a chance to fix the problem - I just want to know they really are working on it.

Great observations. One comment regarding your dates - of the 3 or 4 that reported back that had this issue and supplied their build date - all were in the range between May 20 - May 22.

They had to replace both the Driveshaft and the Rear Differential. Ridden over 10kmiles since with no issues.
