In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. It is so frustrating! My dealer has been very helpful, but at the same time there doesn't seem to be any good info about how long the replacement trim will last, if you're fortunate enough to get it. Is it the same lousy quality? Will it fade again in another year? Or did they improve the process?

Anyone out there have experience with the longevity of the replacement trim?

I’m having the same issue and my dealership keeps telling me it’s supposed to be chrome not black and it’s just dirty and needs to be polished. So incredibly frustrating to overpay for a car and have this happen when it’s still new.
Same

I have the same issue on fading. 21 Kia Telluride EX Night Fall Edition. 29K miles

Mine is fading too!! It looks awful!!

I just now returned from Archer Kia in Houston TX where they replaced the defective Nightfall window trim on my '21 Telluride (26K miles). Kia approved the in-warranty replacement within 24 hours of submission and the dealer had the parts in two days. Replacement took a couple days due to scheduling. My purpose here is to determine if this is an ongoing issue or has it been fixed on the replacement parts. Any feedback on the replacement parts?

Did they replace upper and lower parts of window? And is it a match
Today my dealership replaced bottom only on four doors not even the back panels but the excluded the top and said Kia no longer makes the black trim so the trim is an off black color. It looks just as bad as the faded parts.
I’m so livid

Pictures please.
My trim was perfect until I went through a car wash. Took the black finish off and left it spotted.

2021 EX Wolf Grey Nightfall here. I just passed the 36 months mark 2 weeks ago (31k miles). When I was in for my 30k maintenance I asked the service consultant and was told to use the Chemical Guys light metal polish to buff it uniform. I want my black trim back damnit!

'22 nightfall/wolf gr - yes, we're seeing the same issue. My BMW w piano black trim has the same issue, but some polish has helped, as mentioned above. I think the touchless car wash spot free rinse stuff can cause this, but not 100% on that

21 Wolf Gry Nightfall, showed service last month and they suggested using light metal polish (Chemical Guys). Put an inquiry to Kia Customer Care and they told me service has to open a tech ticket. Was back in service today to have recall work done, told them about Customer Care and they said they don’t open a tech ticket for that. He was going to show me the polish again and I said they showed me that last time but I paid for nightfall and the polish pretty much negates that. He took a picture and said he has to submit to his manager and then if approved there it has to go up another level to get regional manager approval. Said it could take about a week to hear back if they’ll do anything.

If they don’t fix it, I’ll be fighting to get some sort of compensation for the Nightfall premium.

I have a 2021 SX with the same trim problem . The car has 11,000 miles. I took it to Kia and although they took pictures, they told me trim was only covered for 12 months. After paying $64,000 out the door, I explained that is unacceptable. My car looks terrible. I am going to take the dealership to small claims court if they don’t fix the problem. I live in New York and I’m hoping this is something I can pursue.
Wow. My dealer is the one who actually pointed out the fading on my 2021 Telluride. It is 2024 and we have over 55,000 miles on our car. They replaced the trime on EVERY window for us under warranty and no cost! We are in Calif. Don't know why the push back elsewhere...

I also am having mine replaced in CA. I took my 2022 Nightfall in for the recall work last week, and also pointed out the fading trim and said I think it should be covered under the paint warranty. The specialist told me that it's actually covered under the basic warranty and promptly ordered an entire set of new trim pieces which will get installed in a couple days while my windshield is getting replaced, all free of charge under warranty.

I had previously called and emailed Kia customer service about this, but was told I would need to take it to a service center for evaluation even thought I sent photos. After taking it in (a different service center), I was told I need to file a claim with Kia personally - so I reached out several times to Kia Corporate who basically just forwarded my request to customer service who in turn again told me to go to a service center. I asked the service specialist why there is so much conflicting info and he said there should not be as it's clearly covered under your basic warranty and he's had many people come in for this exact issue over the last few years.

Can you cite the actual text (or page#) where this is covered please @Acolod ? Thanks

So I finally got through to the service manager after a month and a half. They said they are aware of the issue and it comes down to a "goodwill" warranty replacement decision per dealership and were willing to do it. He couldn't guarantee it wouldn't happen again. He said it may be a heat/humidity environment issue as he came from a Kia in NY and didn't see the issue up there. Bad news trim parts are backordered a couple months.

Seeing as I am moving in a couple weeks I'll have to contact a dealership where I am moving to. Since it's a different Kia region, it's depends if the local dealership there would do it. The manager where I'm at now gave me his direct number and said the new dealership can call him and he would 'vouch' for me that they were willing to do the replacement.

I can not, I am just relaying what the Kia service center told me. I looked in my basic warranty info packet and didn't see anything specifically related to "trim".

Interesting that success seems to be very location based. For what it's worth, I picked up my vehicle yesterday and they replaced all of the trim and I was not charged a dime. All items on invoice were noted "Warranty" and while I was originally told one of the pieces was on back order, it came in a few days later. The actual delay was that they needed to coordinate with the glass company because the fixed rear triangular windows are integrated with the trim and needed to be replaced.

If Kia will honor this as under warranty for me and for some others as noted on this thread, then why wouldn't it be honored for anyone! Especially those who have ordered a nightfall package!

Section of my invoice attached for anyone interested.

From reading the thread and some others on here, it seems as though it isn’t covered under warranty since Kia is saying it is not a defect but due to external factors. Now, that means you could replace it at your own cost, but the parts are on back order from what I’ve read as well, and the same thing will likely occur again even on the new parts.
That is what my dealership said also, and when I contacted KIA directly they also said that they could not replace due to external factors and not a manufacturer defect. Have not decided what my next step will be.

Mine was fading pretty bad after two years, I just had the trim wrapped in black. Looks way better then the gunmetal trim IMO
