Order to delivery time

Apologies if this has been asked 1000 times before, I just don't know how to search or parse through the 455 pages.

After putting down your deposit, what happens next? Were you given paperwork with an ETA or just a receipt for your deposit? I also didn't realize that different dealers were given different allocations. Is there a way to search for what your dealer gets allocated? Or just have to ask and hope they're honest? We were told it could be anywhere from 3-8 months. TIA
I ordered on August 31 and was just given a receipt for the $500 deposit--no other paperwork was sent home with me although I signed a document verifying that what he planned to order was actually what I had requested. I was told 3-6 months but that they're averaging about 4 months pretty consistently. I'm as clueless about the car-buying process as the day is long, but I'm learning with the help of this forum. Up until this point, I really couldn't have cared less what I drove as long as it got me from point A to point B, and now I'm obsessed over this Telluride...poring over this forum, agonizing over whether or not I should have added the Nightfall edition, and stalking failcat daily.

Failcat has unfortunately been silent for a few days =(

Wow sorry to hear of this! I worked with Arapahoe Kia in Denver Colorado… Ordered in July and it was picked up in the August window and I have an ETA in early November but he said they have been coming in early. My sales person Jake Taylor has been amazing to work with… I’m attaching his card in case you want to consider re-ordering at a different dealership.

Hey Gina,

We just spoke with Jakeob and he seems amazing to work with. Did you end up paying a markup on your vehicle above msrp?

That dealer has been allocated about 12 tellurides every month. So that would mean there was more than 60 people in line ahead of you. Highly unlikely at such a low volume dealer. I would be asking to speak to a manager or going somewhere else. Plenty of dealers that get them in 4 months time.
For me, it was just a reciept and was told 8 to 12 weeks. Next thing that happens is Kia picks up order. That can take a while depending on your dealer and how many orders they are allotted. Orders are only picked up every once in a while so that can be a wait. However, you will most likely be notified after the order is picked up and will be given an estimated ETA at that point.
I was just called last week that my order got picked up. I ordered & deposit paid July 5. I don't have a vin yet. They told me 2nd week Jan. for ETA.
I was 7th in line on Aug 8. I have hope it will be sooner but at this point the way it's going I'm not going to hold my breath.

My ETA was only off by a few days from the original ETA they gave me when I was notified that KIA picked up the order.

Ordered 7/19. Just given ETA of 10/26. Original estimate was 16 to 20 weeks.

We have now proceeded to order at another dealership with much higher allotments each month out of state. His estimate is 3-4 months and they are the biggest seller within a 7 state region.

Our original order placed on April 6th (4/6/21) is still in LALA land. Dealership told us yesterday that they were STILL picking up orders for November/December of last year! Which would put us another 5 months, minimum, out from now.

Hopefully the plant in GA doesn't experience too many more delays/shortages.

Cheers =)

Awesome! No I will be paying MSRP. Are they charging you a markup?

So this is frustrating. Back in the spring I was all in on a new Chevy Tahoe. Wanted all the options and couldn't even order one, then GM just started dropping available options completely. Waited almost 4 months to even put an order in and finally gave up and looked into the Telluride. Obviously I was super impressed - enough to go to my local dealer to look at one. They said they could have one in 6-8 weeks. I asked again and again if that was a realistic timeline and they said yes and even said most come in sooner than that. So I bit and placed my order. This was almost 5 weeks ago and I still don't have a VIN.

And oh by the way they apparently shut the factory down this week. I know there are no guarantees in life and such, but my question for anyone that might know is how deep are these shortages in supply that they just shut down the plant on a product that they are making incredible money on right now for the company and the dealers? Should I give up getting a car I really want and just find whatever I can actually on a lot? Thanks in advance.

If it were me, I wouldn’t give up on the car that I want. Since I am fortunate enough not to replace my current vehicle (2013 Honda Pilot) immediately, I don’t mind waiting. It’s giving me an incentive to save more money and possibly pay the Telly off or have a very low car payment. It would be a different story if my vehicle was not drivable.

I think setting your expectations correctly is going to take some research on your part. This forum, youtube, news articles. It’s documented just about everywhere. The chip shortage is a BIG deal. It could be the middle to the end of 2023 before we even see the top of the curve and start to improve. Demand is exceedingly higher and higher every month not just for the telluride but for all cars that are new (and used). Honestly “6 to 8 weeks” that sounds amazing to me. My first dealership told me six to nine months and the second one said 3 to 4 months. I’m also in a very populated area where these dealerships have very high allotments. It’s hard to wait, especially if you HAVE to buy a car. If you don’t have to buy immediately, order exactly what you want and wait. Do what I do and watch repeated Telluride YouTube reviews every night. 🤣

Stay strong!

I agree that we have a long time of getting worse before it gets better. I just hope KIA doesn't start doing what GM is doing and cutting features out of the Telly just to put stripped down versions of the car out. My current vehicle is still running so I will just be patient and wait, but my hobbies and activities have changed such that I need a reasonably sized SUV or something that can tow. And yes I think I've watched every videos of the Telluride!!!

Brother I ordered on April 6th of this year and don't have a VIN lol. I just ordered last week at a second dealership (out of state) with much higher allotments and am gonna see which one gets the VIN first. This is not a fast or easy process. I've been watching people in this forum get their Tellurides having ordered LONG after me and it is indeed frustrating, but I am going to keep on keepin on.

Good luck my friend.

If they start stripping down the cars, they will lose their sales. I know for me and I think I'm not alone, a large reason I'm buying this vehicle is the number of bells and whistles it comes with for the price. If you get rid of those, then it isn't worth waiting for. There would be many more competitors at that price point with those limited features.

Absolutely agree it’s the plethora of electronic features that drew me to the Telluride. The problem is the carmakers have realized they can sell them stripped down for basically the same price and people are still buying them. There is just no supply.

yep. I ordered July 5 I don't have a vin yet and estimated eta of Jan. My dealership told me about 4 months. It feels like it's been longer as I had to borrow a car until it comes in. I should have taken advice from my salesman back in April & ordered then. Good luck!
