What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

I'm picking up my Telly today! I got an SX, Dark Moss, with Butterscotch for $49,111.40 OTD here in Cincinnati. It's the wifes car, so I am excited to bring it home (and start to detail it!)

Who did you get it from? What part of Cincy you in, Fairfield township here.. Maybe I'll see you on the streets. We got a dark moss SX prestige with black interior. Ours is also the wife's car... she will love it.

Wyler Fairfield. I'm currently in Monfort Heights. Yes you never know! It would be like the Jeep or Motorcycle Wave!

I ordered the first one from them and had a verbal agreement at MSRP, they tried to add 10K markup on me so that's when I went to Muncie. I guess they finally figured out people aren't buying at that ridiculous markup.. congrats and hope to see you cruising.

I talked to the GM and he told me that the demand is so high, most are selling above MSRP. They said because of the pandemic, and sales are super low, that they had to start making deals to get things to move. However, he did say that people with excellent credit scores are not buying and that ones that have terrible scores are. He did mention that once this passes, they probably will go with a 5k markup over MSRP.

He did say Tellurides are only lasting less than 2 weeks on the lots right now. Mine was there for 2 weeks. I was just lucky and hit at the right time. I'm happy with what I paid, only wish the APR financing was better, but will probably pay it off in 2 years anyway!

They told me that everyone was charging over, so went to Muncie and with kia incentives and costco pricing, got it for a few grand under MSRP,.. they are FOS

Southern California here. Pre Covid, there was a dealer markup of $5k to $10 and it was still hard to find an SX AWD. I got one last week for $1k over MSRP with $2k of dealer accessories. They didn't budge on the accessories. I went with the $1k rebate with 3.75 APR; with my down payment, it was a little cheaper than going with the 1.9 APR w/o the $1k rebate. I contacted about 8 dealerships within 150+ miles of me and they were all adding 3-8k markup. There was ONE Hyundai Palisade Limited AWD and they had a $5k markup. With the GA factory shut down, supply is still going to be lower than demand, and once Covid goes away, that pent up demand is going to surge back. I'm not seeing any good deals on the Telly any time soon. IF you can get one close to MSRP, jump on it.

What dealership may I asked? Also, you're saying it is better to take the 1k rebate with the higher apr than the 1.9% for 60? Seems like it's the other way around no? I'm not quite sure so please, soemeone, explain it.

I spoke to Muncie Kia and they said since production stopped, none of the 2020s won't be available for at least 10-12 weeks! Which kinda makes sense to just wait for 2021.

It was Citrus Kia in Ontario, CA. Normally the promo APR is usually the way to go, but I put a large down payment (car accident payout) so it turned out the rebate was a little cheaper per month. With my Sedona totaled, I didn't have time on my side, and I really wanted a Telluride.

I'm kinda on the same boat. I'd wait for the 2021 but I was on an accident not too long ago as well. Though it was not totaled, it sustained a pretty bad damage that I have to pay 50% (long story). Anyways, I had estimated with and without a repair for a trade and the difference is not significant which is almost the amount to have it repaired.

As far as Citrus, I had a few back and forth emails with them but didn't seem it was fruitful. I guess I'll look into it again. Who was your rep if you don't mind me asking? Any tips or insight on how to secure one on decent price?

I paid MSRP plus $1000 dealer markup (down from $5k). Others were charging $3k to $8k. My rep was Dallas. The finance dept didn't move at all on the $2k add ons (paint edge protection and interior protection package). I almost walked and got the Mazda CX9, but I don't like the infotainment system in that. If you're stuck on getting a Telly, there's not much choice. It's all about getting that markup lowered.

Thanks for the insight. Mind sharing your otd? lol

I've been looking for a gravity gray or black model S and have talked to 6 dealers in Socal. All of them are still asking $2k above msrp. I haven't actually gone in and try to negotiate very hard, just emails and texting. Anyone scoring MSRP in Socal?

If you find one let me know!

I don't know where in SoCal you're located but I know that Team Kia in El Cajon here in San Diego is not marking up over MSRP but the sales person told me over the phone and email that they do have some dealer installed options that all cars get once they hit the lot. Here's her email:

That is a great questions. We are NOT marking up the MSRP, but there are some dealer installed items that we add to all of our vehicles (especially the Tellurides with their high value) to protect them. Those items are as follows.

A location device called Stargard: Stargard locates the vehicle and you'll be able to view it from an app on your phone or from a computer and even works in Mexico. Most insurance companies will also offer a discount on your premium since this is an anti-theft device.

Clear Protect: This is a coating on the edges of the doors and behind the door handles (areas that are commonly scratched or chipped).

Pulse: This is a break light attachment which will pulse the break lights three times when you depress the break pedal. This greatly decreases your odd of being rear ended. It also acts like something of a gap insurance. If you are rear ended and your vehicle is totaled, Pulse will pay up to $3,000 on top of what your insurance pays.

Resistall: This is an interior upholstery protectant.

They also list these items and their price at the bottom of the webpage for each vehicle, they add up to almost $3k. Given that I don't think you'll find a dealer that isn't using these to add to their bottom line, at least you're starting from MSRP.
  • Pulse Protects! Third Brake Light, $499
  • Resistall Paint Protection, $999
  • Dealergard GPS Vehicle Tracking, $999
  • 3M ClearProtect Door Edge Guards and Door Handle Protection, $399
In talking with them they are having a hard time keeping them on the lot, even in this C-19 environment. They sold 3 on Friday and probably getting increased sales due to other dealerships in the area still maintaining a $5k markup.

I might order one tomorrow, they're supposed to call me back and finalize the deal with my deposit but are saying that it's a 90 wait at a min. I'm wondering if they'll allow me to decline those dealer add ons right off the bat.

I'm always weary with those dealer add ons especially the ones with gps tracking. Not only it feels like they frankeinsteined the heck out of the car but also tracking you themselves. It feels like chop shop almost after they're done with it.

i don't know. I feel like that with the pandemic, they should be willing to part ways with their cars to keep them afloat. Instead, their mentality is that they have the rarest of unicorns!

At this point, I wouldn't mind waiting and resume looking close to end of the year when production starts again and we get over this hump.

They'll probably fight you tooth and nail on the add ons. Those things are pure profit for them. Brake light thing is $10 from Amazon. Paint protection is at most a ceramic coating that costs 50-100, it's more of a warranty program. If you paint gets that bad, take it to a detailer for a couple hundred bucks. Interior protection is another warranty type program and they probably spray some 3M Scotchguard. GPS tracking: Kia's UVO system can locate your car from the built in GPS. Edge guards are probably the only thing worth having, but you can get it done much cheaper elsewhere.

What sucks is that you can't even do the whole "walk away" routine because they know they'll sell it to the next person.

It’s STILL A MARKUP for CRAP

I wish manufacturers would operate like how Tesla does! Cut the middle man and their scheming ways. You build your car how you would like it, they'll make it, and they ship it or you pick it up. No extras, no add ons, no gimmicks!

The thing the irks me is that you get so excited about your purchase as you should be and these stealerships manipulate the experience so much that you just want to be done with it. Almost always you had to compromise something. Kinda like buying a house I guess.

The last time I enjoyed buying a car was with my '05 Scion tC. Went in, ordered what I wanted, waited a few weeks and got exactly what I wanted. No paint protection, no spoilers/exhaust/ground effects, no BS. They had no haggle pricing so I didn't have to play any games or go to a hundred dealerships.

My 1974 Ford Gran Torino was stress less. I line that term stealerships!!!
