I am trying to understand this whole process but it is a little tricky!
We ordered our SX on 2/15 from the dealer (who said it would go in as an order officially on the Monday- Feb 17).
The sales person told us they would have a VIN in probably about 4 weeks. Does that mean that they placed our order on kdealer, then it goes into KFOS once they have an allotment for us (i am guessing here- they didn't tell us anything like this). Does the VIN get assigned at the point of acceptance from KIA or from KFOS?

We were told 8-12 weeks until delivery so its not like i am expecting the car any day, i just am trying to understand the process and make sure we are dealing with someone that is explaining the process fairly- even if it is "dumbed down" for us.

If a dealer accepts an order from you, then it goes into Kdealer fairly immediately (should be same day). If you're at the top of the list, as in no one placed an order before you, then when your dealer gets an allocation for an SX AWD (I'm not sure if Prestige or not really matters, think they're he same as far as KFOS goes), it will be input into KFOS in the middle of the month (15-17th). Once it's in KFOS, it'll take a couple of weeks for the build process to start, and at some point when the build begins, it will be assigned a VIN, and your dealer will be able to see it/they will be notified.

So I will not see it on this look-up tool until its allocated in KFOS and the VIN is assigned. This is why he told me it would be around 4 weeks until he had an update- their Feb allocations were already gone it sounds like.

Correct. Their SX AWD allocations would have been filled around the 15th to 17th of February, assuming they had enough orders built up to fill those. Depending on how many orders are in front of yours, it will be put into KFOS around the same time next month, and you'll see some info a couple weeks after. Just be patient, it's a long process (although hopefully much shorter for you).

Thanks for the bump What was you estimated delivery time for your Nov order?

I ordered in September. So, it was just under 5 months when I cancelled. At the time, they were seeing 4 month wait times, then all hell broke loose with the Telly winning all these awards. Muncie is awesome tho. I'll definitely get a car from them in the future.

I will update once I get an ETA and then the actual car. I feel they must have some kind of handle on expected allocations to tell me 8-12 weeks... though I honestly would feel a little guilty if I got mine so quickly in comparison to all the folks waiting here for the last 6+ months!
I am more than happy to wait for exactly what we want. They had an SXP on the lot but wrong colors (Snow White with gray interior) and too many extra options for us...we could have actually drove away with it if we compromised but we didn’t want to! They also have another SXP coming in March that was not yet sold- it is actually in our
Color too but had too many add ons that we didn’t want (interior lighting, towing, a few more things that added up to about $2500 in options).
Being that they had one on the lot and another unsold arriving next month, it leads me to believe they are caught up on orders they had for the SX AWD.
and we paid MSRP (though we did add ons)

I'm not sure if Prestige or not really matters, think they're he same as far as KFOS goes

that is correct per Stephen Cantrelle from the KFOS thread:

you should ask how many SX AWD and SX AWD Prestige are in front of you.. Since KFOS doesn’t separate them your place in line is on the SX AWD category which includes Prestige and non Prestige.

Thanks! Is the date posted the date the dealer got the car? I looked mine up and it has a date of 1/30/20, dealer says the car came in on 2/11/20 and that they didn't know it was coming. Just curious really.

How do you know when it was painted? Also there was a vin lookup link but it's not working now. Trying to see what the specs are on this one...hoping it's mine!

The post by @NREVANS above is good info. You both ordered from Muncie. NREVANS is still waiting on his September 14 order. Being November, yours is likely closer to being filled in May or June - possibly longer. The issue with Muncie is that they have a lot of SX-P orders, but they don't get a ton of monthly allocations.

That being said, February was their highest month yet for SX-P VINs - so that's great news. They will take care of you, its just going to take a while. Have patience. I had an order delivered in 5 months - and that was a May order! I'd follow up with Muncie around April or May to find out your place in if you're willing to wait.

Ok cool. I will let it ride until April and check in. My only issue is my financing is approved for 90 days, it’s another credit pull and rectification but I’ll wait.

Just so I understand...you ordered in November and now end of February you are still # 23 on the list?!! That is crazy. I thought it was bad that there were 12 people ahead of my when I ordered from @StephenCantrelle in the DFW area back in January. Right now there are 7 people ahead of me and they seem to be getting 5-6 SXP allocations per month.

Yup, My co-worker has his already and I was the first out of every one to order. He’s been rolling for the last month. He however got his from a PA dealership.
