What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

Makes sense. It makes perfect sense to get the best price one can, that's for sure. And it's really hard to take the emotion out of it.

For those struggling with having to pay $2K over sticker, you can ask yourself this: If Kia had set MSRP at $2K higher than they did, and the dealer had sold at MSRP, would you feel better? Or if Kia had set MSRP at $4K higher than they did and the dealer had sold at $2K less than MSRP, would you feel better? In all cases, you're out exactly the same amount, so the value is identical. If the car is worth it to you at that price, given your unique circumstances, does it really matter if Kia gets the money or the dealer? But emotions and perception can wreak havoc on one's judgment! This is exactly why you see so many things (cars and otherwise) "on sale" all the time. The perception of getting a good deal can overshadow our ability to measure value, even at a lower price.
well said!

They're not appreciating, members who have sold theirs are not getting what they paid for them. Dealers are asking ridiculous prices but it doesn't mean they're getting it. I'm sure there are a some who do get over original sticker.

I don't know if MSRP is a "good deal", it's certainly pretty close to the best you can do on a new one right now. I still say that if you go to trade in 3-4 years, you probably won't get any better offer than the guy with a similarly equipped Honda Pilot who got 3-5k off sticker on his new.
The only reason I'm looking at Telly and Pali is just both have enough room to occupy family of Six with 3 of us over 6 feet tall. I wanted to go for 2021 Honda Pilot but it's already having a recall for some 2019-2021. We already have a budget limit.

To the bold statement, yes and yes - because I’m still using MSRP as baseline (but if we’re talking realistically, if Kia put this vehicle at MSRP $2k higher, I’d jump to the Palisade - same value, ugly front end, but doable for why we want)

you did hit it on the head - emotion and perception wreak Havoc on our judgments

I can tell you every dealer in and around me that are marking these up are getting their price, i know this because i have walked away only to find 3 hours later the same vehicle has been sold and I know people in the business. Maybe my comment about appreciating is a bit of overstatement, but people are re-selling not much below what they paid w/miles on them (if they are in excellent condition).

Generally, when you drive a car off the lot, it drops $10k, these are holding pretty well to the original price, so holding value is probably a better statement.
Every market is different so getting big money for used could be the case. I'd believe that many dealers are getting good markup on new stock but there aren't a lot of used ones available. We've seen some used posted for big money but there's no way to really know what they're bringing. The dealership can tell you whatever they want. The idea that the values are that high only help make the customer's decision to pay their asking price on a new unit easier.

You can find a used SXP and the dealer is asking $60k, you scoff and walk away, the car sells 3 hours later but for all you know, they took a check for $50k on the spot. They're gonna tell you they got 60 for it all day long.

There have been some private party SXs exchange hands here and they've gone for low 40s if my memory serves me.

I agree it's well said. The MSRP that manufactures set is what they believe is the value, but do the buyers? Have you seen TV ads for GM's large SUV and pickup trucks with $7k or $11k off? Does that make them a deal?

When I see ads that Toyota offers thou$ands off MSRP, to me the public is not buying Toyota. Same for GM and even Subaru. People are buying Tellurides and their total production is small for the market.

A car is an asset, a deprecating asset. Car manufacturers do set MSRPs at lower prices than they have too (well, American car producers may, the incentive/rebate culture is so ingrained)......If you have the money to blow and are not concerned about its value 2-5 years from now, go for it, enjoy....If you are concerned about trade/sales value, hold on to your wallet for the time being.
GF and I just talked about it, and she decided not to buy, she has no immediate need to purchase. However, if she had, I would have encouraged her to go ahead and pay full MSRP. That is the nice thing about California, there are so many dealerships to choose from..

Right. In my industry (corporate high tech), my company once set the list price (effectively MSRP) very close to what street price would be. But then we raised list prices substantially, sold with a higher discount - but still a higher net price than before - and we sold more! The psychology of it, feeling like you're getting a deal, plays a huge role in consumer behavior.

So my GF went and bought the EX (Moss Green, grey leather, captain chairs in back, AWD, blackball) for MSRP. They gave her what she
wanted on the trade as well (same as Caravana and a dealer for a different manufacturer).
Just a side note, dealerships really need to be careful how their staff treats customers. Besides the ridiculous 10k mark up, salesguy
was obnoxious, and pretty dismissive of my gf (dumb move, she is the one with the real money)

that was one heck of a flip from deciding not to buy to buying same day!

regardless, that’s fantastic that she/you got what ya wanted both in the car and with the trade. Congratulations!

Ha, we have different outlooks on money. I am a bit more risk adverse....She makes the money, she can damn well
spend it too.

Tried to buy an SXP with Nightfall & towing package this week through two local dealers (Austin, TX), one wanted around $13k over MSRP and the other $10k. No thank you.
Anyways, after hours of emailing and calling around, I found a KIA dealership a few hours away willing to put in an order for me at MSRP with a $500 deposit. He said it will take 3-6 months for KIA to fill the order and deliver the car, but I am in no rush so I can wait. He said he's been even getting orders from Florida, I guess he's going for volume and the easy sell.

Wow. That’s an increase for the Austin market. Kia of South Austin had a $6K markup that they call pro package of dealer installed options such as window tint, paint protection, etc. but it was all negotiable. probably not down to MSRP, but maybe $2K to $3K in markup.

Picked mine up yesterday, they had a deal $500 off MSRP if finance through Kia, $47.560.00 -$500.00. That’s an Everlasting Silver SX with Nightfall and towing package. Another dealer called me same car only with Prestige pack added for $60,000 OTD, said they marked it up $6800 over MSRP. Really wanted Prestige but not for that price.

Wow that does look really nice! Always better to see them in real pics than on the KIA Website!

I only called Kia of South Austin and was told close to $10k in markup. Went to Southwest Kia (183) in-person to look at what they have and they were just unloading the Telluride I am looking for (SXP with Nightfall and towing, Dark Moss, Dune Brown) and was quoted $62k (MSRP is like $49k). When I started leaving the manager came running and asked me what we could do. I told him let's do $52k and we got a deal. Down payment/excellent credit no problem so we can wrap this up quickly. No dice 🤷‍♂️

Never thought I would get quoted $60k+ for a car in a KIA dealership lol

What I don’t understand is I seem to find $4k and $10k+ markups on the exact same model from dealer to dealer. It’s like there is no in between. 🤯

I’m holding firm at $2000 above MSRP for SX or SXP (Florida). It will happen eventually.

I did get an SX (non prestige) quote for close to MSRP at South Dade Kia yesterday.

I talked to 3 different dealerships here in CT and they all have markups - $3500-5000. Thats throwing away money, I am looking daily for mine but really leaning towards waiting until after Nov and see how supply/demand is...hate throwing away money like that.

You will eventually get what want especially at the end of the month. I picked a SXP for MSRP and I got $500 of MSRP. There was absolutely no way I would pay over MSRP. I normally don't pay MSRP but this vehicle will be hot for awhile. You have to catch the dealer at the right time and not seem to desperate.
